  1. Though I agree with others about Thorne (I like him), at least it isn't Jack Edwards. In any case, you are also forgetting bastions of sporting like Bowling, billiards, and world's strongest man competition.
  2. I DON'T KNOW MYSELF, BUT I THINK TYPING ALL IN CAPS IS A TAD ANNOYING. Anyways, I agree with DAR. No way is Foyt going to get any time on the power play. I suspect the Defensive pairings for the power play will be: Chorney-Radke; Lee-? The ? would probably be a forward ala Genoway last year.
  3. Just echoing what was said. I've read (I think on the recruiting thread) that Martens is a lot like a Kaip-McMahon type player. He isn't a goal scorer, but he can grind it out and forecheck with the best of them. No idea on his ability in the faceoff circle though.
  4. That's mine. Second is RRRRasssstisssslav SPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRKOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
  5. Kurtz did this to their football coach a while back. If so, can't say I blame him. I would have fired him before last season.
  6. Is that possible, PCM? I think that's in their charter. Wouldn't want to break the norm. In any case, I love the last two sentences of the blurb. Scott Sandelin said:
  7. This sucks. Period. Hennan is the voice of the Sioux. Like Dirty said, the other guy is boring. Is there any assurance the new guy won't pull a Woog and misprounounce everyone's names?
  8. Jordy is not in Illinois, that is his cousin Beau who is a goalie (Dave's son). Jordy is Eddie's son and will be a junior at Moorhead HS. With no disrepect to Eddie, Jordy is WAY more talented than his dad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  9. As I understand it, there is no penalty for attending the training camp of a major junior team. It is alot like tryouts for any other junior team. If you get invited to the next stage of training camp, there are usually eligibility penalties for changing your mind, but in this case, Mario left camp before that stage could commence. Going on... Is David Toews a 2008 or 2009 recruit class member? He's not listed on Heisenberg at all. EDIT: Here's an interesting add on. I spoke with a postal worker yesterday whose sun is a freshman at Moorhead High School. He knows all of the varsity hockey players and their folks from the past year and he spoke to me about Brian Lee and Jordy Christian. Apart from telling me that Lee is going to be a great Dman for the Sioux (he did say Brian needs to put on some weight), he said that Jordy wants to follow in Dad's footsteps. Right now, though, he's off playing in midgets in Illinois, so that's not good news for the runner ups of the state hockey tourney.
  10. The center is basically the third defenseman in our defensive zone. The two wings cover the slot area and the two opposing defenseman which leaves the three opposing forwards against two opposing D and the center down low. This is why players like Rory McMahon are so valuable even know they are not that great offensively they are very valuable defensively. For this reason there have been many arguments on this board why Zach Parise is a better player than Vanek because Zach excels at both ends of the rink and good two-way centers are tough to find even though New Jersey found another one in Zajac as well. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I have stated nothing medically in my past that has turned out incorrect. Besides, I have never claimed to be a medical professional. I express my opinion, none of it of the diagnostic variety.
  12. My revised guess: C: Stafford A: Fabian, Porter, and either Smaby or Spirko Porter, Smaby, and Spirko could be interchanged. There really is no particular reason why any of these three are more deserving than the others but here's why I put them down: Porter: Works hard every shift. Leads by example. He may not score a lot of goals, but he's out there to do his job and that's the kind of leadership a team needs on top of scoring. Smaby: Of all the defensive players on this team, he's the most deserving. Unless we talk about Bina, Smaby has developed the most of the returning D and has been through the most. His experience and talent could be worthy of an A. Spirko: I think Diggler, et al. stated my reasons behind his addition. I also like the native language stuff.
  13. Interesting. I would think Stafford would get a serious look at wearing a letter. I agree with Porter as a consideration for an A. He works hard every shift on the ice.

You're welcome. I'll send you my bill in the mail.
  15. I dunno. Stunned a little myself. Arrogant as this sounds, Smaby is closer to the NHL than Rosehill readiness wise.
  16. I'm not sure (meaning I haven't heard) David is still with the team. I know NJ made a qualifying offer to him, but there has been nothing stating that he has signed it.
  17. Though FSU was given a pass, I really think they went about it in a harsh, yet sensical manner. They threatened to get the NCAA where it matters the most: the pocketbooks. I admire schools like UND, CMU, and Utah who are trying to "play by the rules" with this appeal runaround, and perhaps it will help them (us). However, I do believe, if Kupchella and crew were smart, they'd have legal on this building up a case. Because if the appeal fails, I'd sue. And I think UND shouldn't just sue for its own purposes. I really think there should be (I can't believe I am endorsing this) a class action lawsuit against the NCAA to allow the schools to mandate their own nicknames and allow those with nicknames that could be deemed contraversial to organize and discuss the contraversy with those it directly impacts. Nothing like common sense to ruin a bored diversity committee's day. They'll have to just go back to the mundane task of ensuring Title IX compliance and ensuring more minorities are represented in sports and those that are are treated equally. IMO, though, they should be disbanded for being contradictory to their mission. They're supposed to embrace diversity, not quash it.

Very VERY smart move on his part. Now he can skate, work out, and in a few months, practice with the team all this year and not try to rush things.
  19. If it weren't for the logo issue and Cindy Sheehan, you'd know who that is!
  20. This is a risky scholarship choice. Injury prone the past two years.
  21. The link didn't work, but if you do click the link, scroll down and click the term "Devils" in the list under Sports, the page does show up and it is easy to find. I don't know what Parise will do in his rookie campaign, but I think the hype is overblown. IMO, I think the time for Zach in the NHL has never been better. ALL of the limelight will be on Ovechkin and Crosby and very little if any will be on him. I hope he just does what comes naturally and play the same way he played in Albany, UND, WJC, and Shattuck.
  22. I got that stuff from what I was told back when the new Ralph was built. I was told that the money was donated conditionally. The conditions were that it be used to build a hockey arena for the Sioux and that the Sioux name was to stay in place. If the name were to change, then UND could lose its current arrangement with the arena and its management company. It's not all that surprising that I could have gotten the wrong information, but I see that scenario as quite possible as the "worst case scenario"
