That's one hell of a freaking SWEET name!
-
As far as I'm concerned, as many of the opposing schools get on the bandwagon about defending the Honor of our nickname, I don't care where they come from. Minnesota fans who support the Sioux nickname are just fine to me.

I liked how Matt took the demotion however, I'm not so sure that it was a failure to be sent down. I really think it came down to playing time. That was what the pundits were speculating and I really think it came down to that. The Oiler's defensive depth chart is deep and Greene, IMO, is good enough to make the team but what use would that make it if he spends it riding the pine most of the season or, more likely, taking in the game from the press box? In the AHL he gets to start off in a pivotal role on the blue line. He'll get a lot of time on the ice and there's no rule saying he can't be brought up later. Commodore only lasted half a season in the AHL before his first call up. I doubt Greene's case will be much different.

Parise's line is outdated. Friesen was traded to Washington for a draft choice. Ok, so the info is a little old, but yeah, that's what I heard too.

From what I understood, the general public was exempt from any harsh treatment, just encouraged not to wear it. The cheerleaders and the band must change their uniforms to reflect it. Here's another thing to ponder: Jordy's mask. Can you imagine how much it would cost to replace that? It has to be more expensive than his jersey.
-
With those captain's practices underway, did anyone notice who is wearing the letters 'C' and 'A'?

Hardly anything. They spend most of their time touting Vanek and Lehtinen. Nothing false or dumb about it although Lindsay Ruff's quote to the Buffalo news: got a chuckle. Obviously, it seems Vanek learned how to play defensively while with Rochester. Great player. All-around gifted? Stretch. Offensively gifted? Definitely.

Ok, I'm not as pissed as I used to be. With Oshie's, Brien's and the favorable (we think) replay we had from the Ojibwe (or Chippewa) tribes, why not be the Fighting Ojibwe? We can keep the logo that way... But I say we don't change it until absolutely forced to do so.

They way I see it, it could go two ways with Finley: It can go the way of the media: Finley drafted so high because of his size and potential not because of his present talent. He's a project. Or the other side: This guy is gonna be great! He's good for his size and has all the tools to make it big. I'm interested to see who is right. I hope it is the others.

From what I heard it doesn't affect the Hockey team at all save for the fact that the jerseys will have to be changed. That's ok, we already have them. It affects all other sports save Hockey though when it comes to post season play. If you ask me, so be it. Take the logos off the jersies and that's that. As for what jk said, I'd like to modify it. We can't just dump everything. Then we'll look like spoiled idiots. I say we do nothing more than the federal grants pay for. Not a penny of UND's other funds not SPECIFICALLY earmarked for the Native American programs should be spent. If that means that faculty must be cut, so be it. Pow Wows and all are no longer free to the Native Americans. If they want to hold one at UND, they can rent out the Hyslop like any decent member of the general public. And yes, I support the Fighting Cavalry.

I love their picks from Michigan. Noah Ruden? Is he backup because that's 100 percent of his game time? A game here or there but really not counted on in the long run? Sure, that's what a backup does, but the best backups in the game are the ones that, if called upon the only difference in performance would be the name and number on the back of the jersey. What's Ruden done to deserve it? Ebbett might be a better choice if they want a Rory McMahon type player, but Zajac can set them up just as well as he can score. The same thing could be said for Spirko and Stafford. Also, Matt Carle? If you are going to have hyped players, which it seems like they went out of their way to avoid save for Kessel, McKee, and Carle (arguments can be made saying Gauthier and Moulson are hyped as well) then why have them? Bogus. Here's the breakdown by conference FYI: WCHA: 6 CCHA: 6 ECACHL: 5 HEA: 3 CHA: 1 AHA: 0 Conference breakdown notes that, if any major conference is slighted, it's Hockey (L)East. If any conference is overrepresented compared to top to bottom strength: it's the CCHA. But INCH is based out there. So, no worries. I'd love to see this team play and then fall to UND, UMD, and yes, I think UAA could beat this dream team too.

Fox Sports North: Where Minnesota Fans come first. No, I'm not being sarcastic: Watch their commercials. After all, isn't Matt Smaby a Junior? And the player to watch isn't Bina as PCM stated. The person to watch is Zajac. That guy can do AMAZING things in all facets of the game. Also, Toews, Chorney, and Lee are supposedly pretty good but I'm just guessing

Very interesting. Have you ever seen any of these T Shirts? I've never seen them at Hockey events but I admit I haven't been to many basketball and football events to make a judgement. EDIT: Have to add this: Isn't it funny that, instead of installing a rule that bans those things from the event, they just want to change the name instead? Do they understand that PEOPLE do those things and not a NAME?

ANyone know if this will be televised? I can't make it up to GF but I'd love to watch the game if I can catch it at a local Fargo establishment. Peppers usually carries it when it is televised and sometimes Tailgaters and Playmakers do as well.

Are you guys serious? German pipeline? Maroon gets it? Vaht? Let me give you two reasons why the Sioux won't be going to check out the European leagues: 1. $$$$$$$$$ 2. Why? Most of the European players that are any good play in the Elite Leagues (a semi-pro like the MJ or pro league, not sure what... but whatever it is, it eliminates eligibility) or comes across to some American team (either a prep school out east or the USHL) or goes North American Major Junior. Whatever real market that exists in Europe for DI is very small and it is debateable whether or not it makes financial sense to spend that kind of money on recruiting trips. We did not get Spirko from the Czech Republic. We got him from the USHL. Vanek came from the USHL, Sejna came from the USHL. I'm not sure there are more than 5 foreign players in the WCHA (foreign being not US or Canadian) that didn't come through some sort of American prep school or Tier I or II team (BCHL, USHL, etc.). Yes, I know UNO got two Finns. Don't know how, don't care really.

I dunno about Ryan winning the Hobey so much as I wouldn't put it past Sertich to go at it again.
-
Why are we worried about polls this early? A game hasn't even been played yet. After last year, the Sioux proved that you don't have to be #1 in the nation in order to compete for the national title. You just have to make the NCAAs. It matters little whether the Sioux start the year at #1 or #25 as long as we play our way into the NCAAs in the end.
-
The Sioux name stuff has been beaten to death on the Sioux Name portion of this message board as well as on USCHO and INCH and the Forum and the Herald and MANY MANY places across the nation (There's a blog from some Dartmoth Newspaper debating UND's name). Whether or not the appeal fails or we go to court, Kupchella, for once, will have to be stated that, as of this time, has done a marvelous job with the name issue. Time will tell, but I doubt the NCAA will make a ruling any time soon.

Nothing against Andy Schneider, but he's still skating for the Penguins as well! I still expect Andy to be sent down, but it is amazing to me and a testimony to the UND program and Andy's talents that he's done this good thus far. As for the read on Chorney: WOW! I wish I was still in Grand Forks so I could see this kid play.
