If you read my full post you'd understand that my opinion is He's ok with Americans in the NHL. It's a fact of life. That being said, he chose Bo for the Calder because he is on a Canadian team. It would make no sense to do it any other way except for a Canadian on a Canadian team and right now there's no one that fits that mold. EDIT: So basically, my opinion is of Don Cherry's order of importance: 1. Canadians on Canadian teams 2. Americans on Canadian teams 3. Canadians on American teams 4. Americans on American teams 5. Europeans on Canadian teams 6. Who cares about Europeans on American teams.

I agree, PCM. However, Sioux-cia, I will have to agree to disagree with your perception of what a liberal is. It is true that the word 'liberal' wasn't always a term best used to describe the wackos like Michael Moore, Ward Churchill, Cindy Sheehan, etc. However, words in time change. Democrats have stayed the same but everyone has moved to the left. Howard "The Scream" Dean, during his campaign, had insinuated that what the NCAA ended up doing would have been supported by him. And now he leads the DNC. I used to be a 'liberal' or, at best, an Independent with liberal leanings. Now, I find that I'm more of a Centerist than anything mainly because of the acts of the Democratic Party as of late and the fact that there are ideas that Republicans have done currently and in the past that just make sense. Also, the farther left you get, the closer to socialism you get. Socialism=Demise of USA, IMO. You can call yourself a liberal if you wish, I'm not going to judge you for it, but IMO, you definitely come across far more right on the spectrum than you'd think. P.S. FYI- Did you know that the person who presented Roe v Wade was Republican? Justice Blackmun was actually a conservative republican. Didnt know that. It's nice having a friend who is a judge on the Appellate Courts.

Don Cherry is the ultra-Canadian homer. He's the same one that felt that Americans in the NHL was a fact of life in the NHL but Europeans should have stayed home. If he could have gotten away with the NHL being only Canadians in it, I doubt he'd be anything less than the guy leading the movement if it were feasible. He also didn't choose Ovechkin because he's Russian and Crosby because he plays for a team in the US. That being said, I hope Bo gets the Calder, but if he doesn't it matters little. I want Bo to be a quality NHL player. Doing his job well. Calder is nice but not necessary to be a good NHL player.

I'm at work so this will be brief (gotta go pick up the kids from gym in like... 5 minutes). Bacardio- You didn't go too far for my tastes, but probably for Knowthefacts/GK's tastes. No one likes to be told that changing the way we think demands a bit of conformity, a scary word these groups don't seem to understand. Right now, NA people think "YOu have to be us to understand us so if you are not, don't try, you're racist if you do." Sioux-cia- The removal of funding wouldn't put them on their pedestal. They'd be forced to compete with the whites and blacks and asians for everything. Their entitlement beliefs prevent their success in this. But this may be the only way to help them understand. And doing this because of the nickname would be wrong. Short, sorta confusing, and incomplete. I'll try to explain better later.

PCM is half right. I think the WCHA will crack down on obstruction for the first half of the year and then, in January they will stop calling it (and claim everyone learned their lesson) and watch Toews, Kessel, Skille, Statsny, Rau, etc. get mauled.

Very nice input! As most of you know, I've been an adamant supporter of Matt Smaby, at one point being called his 'biggest fan'. I saw flashes of greatness during his sophomore year in leadership but I never expected the 'C'. I think it really is how far he's come that got him the letter. It's always better to have a leader who knows what it is like to be at the top and at the bottom of one's game when the pressure is on to lead the team. Matt's done that and I think he makes a good Captain. I mean no disrespect to Prpich, but I don't think an instigator like him should have to worry about a letter. He says one thing on the ice, stuff that gets under the skin of the other team and then is expected to turn around and say another. I'd rather him stick to his strengths and have Stafford wear the A in his stead. That being said, Zach Parise didn't wear a letter at UND but he was always considered a leader his sophomore year. Maybe Stafford will be the same way this year.

I ignored him a long time ago. Not many people would log onto this site and say thank god that someone snapped their neck. State of Hockey- You've been reported to the moderators. Have a nice day.

USCHO is much more accurate. 1 Freshman doesn't equal #1 team or Michigan would be #2 and UND #3
-
Alexander played vs Manitoba. His slot will be taken by Finley. This will be a big test for the crew.

Don't agree with the polls. At this point polls are irrelevant, but IMO anyways, it should look like: 1. Denver 2. Minnesota 3. Cornell Boston College 5. Ohio State 6. UND 7. Colorado College 8. UNH 9. Michigan 10-15. As is. Ohio State is good, but they're not going to be tested outside of Michigan this year. Yes, the ECACHL looks like a tougher league than the CCHA from top to bottom.

EXACTLY.

Hakstol read my mind in the USCHO recap (by PCM): This is precisely what needs to be done. Let's get it done, boys!

Really? I thought he could continue along in the AHL/ECHL path. Well, evidentally he decided that wasn't for him. Good luck in business Kevin!

Very interesting. When the atmosphere was an issue with the new Ralph in 2001 or later, did Thomas and Blais attempt to do the same thing? Maybe Buning and Hakstol can do this because it sounds like a smashing idea instead of the letters telling us to "sit down and shut up except for this time and that time and this situation and that situation.." BTW- I'd love to meet this Buning guy. He sounds like quite the guy.

An Abstract theory on the ongoing discussion.

Well, the looters weren't going to the pawn shops. They looted guns and ammo, remember. They used them to shoot at the helicopters. They called it "trying to get the attention of the helicopters so they can be saved." I call it "shooting at the hand trying to save your hide." I'm glad we didn't have to open fire back, but I'm sorry, I don't care what it is you do down there, but if you aren't carrying food, then you are looting in a situation like that. And there is NO sympathy for looters. PERIOD. -
No. GK is bitter. And he's losing the battle in the face of a recent victory. That's why he installs name calling and insults into every one of his posts. I bet he feels like, if he insults us enough, we'll throw up our hands and say "Ok ok! Just change the name so that that big meanie will stop insulting us!" First off, that is not the way things get done around here. You earn respect, and you earn recognition for changes. You don't throw a hissy fit and throw insults around until you get your way. That's what a 2 year old does not a grown adult trying to seek change. Second, we are in a proof based society. Everyone though OJ, Kobe, Michael Jackson, and Blake committed crimes but they couldn't prove it. Crying "rape" doesn't cut it unless you can prove it. No proof, not guilty. It's how our system works. Want more? When those letters came out about W's military service, did we take that for fact? Some of us did. When it came out that they were fictitious, what then? What about that NY Times reporter that lied to the populace a while back? Can't remember his name, but should I remember a liar's name? GK and Knowthefacts -- Give us proof that the Sioux nickname is hostile and abusive using facts and figures documented and confirmed legitamite to within the last 15 years (1990 or newer) that proves your point and I'll consider it. So far, you haven't done anything to do that.

Not Sioux related but, according to this Hockeys Future article, Ryan Potulny turned down a contract offer this offseason for one more year. So that's one for sure defection next year for the Gophers. Trevor Hammer- New Mexico Scorpions. Ok, the link is old but they don't have their roster up yet for this year. So, this is the only link I could find on him. Jeff Ulmer plays in the DEL for Hamburg. So far in 8 games, he has 3g-2a-5pts. Hockeydb profile. Jason Ulmer plays for Kassel of the DEL. So far in 9 games he is 4g-2a-6pts. Hockeydb profile. Bryan Lundbohm, as mentioned earlier is with the Houston Aeros of the AHL. No new info on Bayda, Leinweber (despite there being another Chris Leinweber from Calgary no less who is the owner of some dental ceramics business), Jason Notermann, Tony Hrkac (though something tells me he retired), Chad Mazurak, Kevin Spiewak, and Tim O'Connell.
