Very good goaltender really wanted him and was hoping he would take over when Zane was finished.
-
I picked both of them too. The Harvard win didn't even really seem like an upset watching the game and listening to the announcers. Tough start to the tournament for the B1G with Iowa losing in the first 4 and Ohio State being knocked out in their 1st game.

Even watching some of the Miami/St.Cloud series I still wasn't real impressed with them. They are still pretty bad in their defensive zone and on the PK. Their goaltender didn't handle a lot of things clean one example was the horrible rebound he gave up for SCSU to push it to OT Friday. Sioux need to clean up the turnovers and transition play and play physical without taking penalties and I think they'll be fine. Miami does have high end forward talent with a lot of speed which is why it is important to put a body on them and keep them to the outside. I do think Zane will have more clean looks this weekend and less traffic and tips to deal with than he did against CC as when I've watched Miami they don't seem to get traffic and to the net a whole lot and they generate most of their opportunities off the rush. I do believe the Sioux are still undefeated this season when the game is televised by CBSSN which is the case Friday.
-
I'm fine with either, Ausmus brings the physical presence while Thompson brings more offensive upside and is a better puck mover. I think it would be fine if they keep going Friday with Ausmus and Saturday with Thompson although I think the coaches may look a little more at matchups and decide which style of play is more needed at this time of the season depending on the opponent.

Survive and advance is what really matters at this time of the season but definitely some things to clean up in practice this week. Gotta be better on the breakout and really cut down on the turnovers. Ladue has been very solid all year but the last 2 games he has definitely struggled and we can't afford bad turnovers like the 2 he has made the last 2 nights that ended up in the back of the net so I hope he gets back to playing the way he can. I thought we played well at times tonight and really brought it but other times there definitely seemed to be a lull too. Have to be stronger in front of our net tying up sticks and clearing players to give Zane a chance. Get on Miami early on Friday and make them remember what happened the last time they were on the ice with this Sioux team.

I believe they actually went away from him and gave Slubowski the start last night.

Zane has made some real big point blank saves in both 1st periods of the first 2 games to keep the Sioux in the game. I'm sure the first couple goals yesterday he would want back but the first one was just a real strange play and the 2nd one our d should have stepped up and closed the gap on the CC player instead of backing in to the dots. I'm very confident Zane will have a very strong game again tonight. Limit the odd man rushes and turnovers, play right from the opening faceoff and I'm confident we will be at Target Center next weekend.

Thorimbert was the biggest reason that CC was even in this game and had a chance to win it. Ladue has made the simple play so many times and I'm sure he really wishes he would have in OT there. Sioux need to come ready to play right away tomorrow and if they do the game will look a lot like it did tonight during the 2nd and 3rd period. Come ready to play, clean up the turnovers, and convert on the chances and we should punch our ticket to Minneapolis.

I watched him in a state tournament or two and could never figure out why he wasn't getting more hype and attention. Most people were too focused on Randolph during that time.
-
He was only a junior in high school this year so if he went to USHL next season he could be here for the 2015 season and looking at our roster situation we would have 17 forwards already for that season if nobody left early and that also includes Voltin and Rowe who may never make it to campus and also includes Sanderson who will probably never be anything more than a practice player. I think we could find some room for him in that class. If he decided to play at WBL again next season and then in the USHL we would have plenty of room for him.
-
I have to think Ausmus had been dealing with some sort of injury because he had been playing pretty well and then suddenly Thompson was every night. Ausmus brings more physical play and is better defensively while Thompson provides more on the offensive skill and puck moving but can make some bad decisions at times.
-
Slow start and not one of the teams best games but good teams are supposed to be able to win games even when they aren't at their best and that is what happened tonight, hope for a quick start tomorrow night and to finish off the sweep.

Andrew Weiss‏@WeissFC 1h Minnesota high school standout Jake Wahlin has decommitted from UMass. Would love to land the pure scorer from White Bear Lake. Wondered if he would end up sticking with UMass and playing with his brother or decide to opt for one of the big time programs.

MN High School Boys Basketball Tourney

They did it late in the game to have the last shot and it isn't real hard to figure out why it is the smart strategy. Didn't start to do it until Shakopee sat back and let them. Shakopee tried to do it a little bit but Hopkins pressured and made them turn it over and got a break out of it and got 2 free throws as a result. -

Yeah I'm not a Hopkins fan either but Shakopee just sat back and let it happen. The reason why it doesn't usually work against Hopkins is they will come out and pressure and really force teams to do something. I think the main argument against the shot clock is the cost to put them in and especially for the smaller schools. -

Why isn't it smart? Shakopee sits back in a zone and won't come out and guard the Hopkins guy so why shouldn't Hopkins hold the ball for the last shot since they don't have a shot clock. Hopkins has a big advantage if they force Shakopee to play man to man but instead they sat back in the zone and let what happened happen instead of trying to go out and win the game. I didn't like it and think they need a shot clock but it is the smart move by Hopkins and teams have tried to do this to them before but they play man to man defense and pressure the ball so it is harder for it to work. -

They need to get a shot clock but it is a smart move by Hopkins. Shakopee is sitting back in a zone and letting Hopkins just hold the ball and have the last shot so it makes sense for them to do that and not even give Shakopee a chance to win it. Would be very surprised if this doesn't spark the big shot clock debate. Amir Coffey who hopefully will be a future Gopher just hit the game winner from behind the half-court line. -
Nick Wolff committed to Duluth today-He looked very good in the state tourney but really just no room for him at UND. Chris Forney of TRF committed to UMASS-Lowell today. Jay Dickman of St.Paul Johnson who the Sioux had some interest in at one time but he really didn't develop as much as people hoped committed to Bemidji.

I'll say Sioux sweep CC SCSU in 3 over Miami Denver in 3 over UNO Duluth in 3 over Western Michigan

You're rink? Are you trying to say you're the ghost of Herb Brooks? GO FIGHTING SIOUX!

Didn't get to really see much of the game until the 3rd because I midco had to show bball on the main channel and we can't get the other midco channels. Game looked sloppy and kind of ugly overall and I think part of that is a credit to Western Michigan because that is the style they want to play. Reffing also seemed pretty bad this weekend but I think it was mostly bad both ways and kind of expected that with who was reffing. I think Andy Murray may be the opposing coach I hate the most as he is just a big cry baby on the bench. Had to put the game on mute tonight because whoever was in for Hammer and Kober were just horrible to listen to and combine that with the non HD this weekend it wasn't a real great production. While I would have liked to win the 1st NCHC regular season championship I do prefer the matchup with CC quite a bit which is the reason I'm not really upset with the loss all that much. Why didn't they we get to watch the senior tribute video either?

Final was 8-2 Edina and it probably could have been worse. Edina was dominant with puck control and really gave Lakeville North nothing all night.
-
Edina leads 6-2 after 2. Lakeville North will open the 3rd with about 4 minutes remaining on a major penalty to Tyler Naane. Lakeville has to find some energy for this 3rd and generate some chances offensively but at the same time tighten things up defensively because Edina has had quite a few real good opportunities.
-
Edina adds another one after a bad Lakeville turnover for a 5-2 lead. Feels weird to say but Lakeville is lucky Oettinger has kept Edina only at 5 so far. Lakeville hasn't got much going offensively and Edina is getting chances from scoring areas rather routinely. Bellows quickly adds another one on a tip in all alone in front for the 6-2 lead.
