No, he hasn't produced much at all at the junior level and may never even make it to campus. -

That is real the only other guy that could come in and it is a possibility as I think he was taking classes to be eligible to but I just don't really see it with the current roster situation. If we have an early departure from a forward then I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Gersich here next fall. -

I would guess we see a roster of 26 players next season- 15 forwards, 7 defensemen, 1 F/D, and 3 goalies. Seniors- 7 Gaarder, MacMillan, O'Donnell, Parks, Pattyn, Mattson and Panzarella. Juniors- 7 Caggiula, Chyzk, Grimaldi, Sanderson, St.Clair, J.Schmaltz, and Gothberg. Sophomores- 7 L.Johnson, Murphy, Ausmus, LaDue, Stecher, Thompson, and Hrynkiw. Freshmen- 5 Olson, N.Schmaltz, Simonson, Poolman, and C.Johnson. -
Thought it would be good to have a thread dedicated to this seasons Seniors where we can thank them for dedicating part of their life to the Fighting Sioux hockey program and carrying on the great tradition. Gonna miss these Seniors that all brought something different to the table and want to thank them for choosing to be part of the Fighting Sioux family. Simpson was a great all around player and willing to sacrifice himself all the time for the team and was a great leader as well and will probably be the player off this team I will miss seeing out on that ice the most, Rodwell was just a hard working blue collar type player that I loved to see on the ice, MacMillan and Saunders didn't come in with the rest of the group but in their time at UND they stepped in and played to best of their abilities when they were out there and they understood the team came first when they weren't out there

SIOUX vs. GOPHERS - Thursday, F4 Philly style Gameday
SiouxScore replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Probably the toughest way for the season to end and I'm still in a little bit of shock about how it happened. That lockerroom last night had to be absolutely terrible to be in. Crazy how quick things can change as I thought the Sioux had the game won on the tip shot but Wilcox was able to just hold onto it and then quickly Minnesota comes down gets a shot blocked and a bounce they shoot and the season is over. This was probably the best game this Sioux team has played all season and probably had the better of the play but hockey is a funny game sometimes just ask Ferris State. Also for those who have complained about Hak and him getting outcoached in big games I think he proved last night what most fans already knew and that is he is a great coach and we are lucky to have him. Gonna miss these Seniors that all brought something different to the table and want to thank them for choosing to be part of the Fighting Sioux family. Simpson was a great all around player and willing to sacrifice himself all the time for the team and was a great leader as well, Rodwell was just a hard working blue collar type player that I loved to see on the ice, MacMillan and Saunders didn't come in with the rest of the group but in their time at UND they stepped in and played to best of their abilities when they were out there and they understood the team came first when they weren't out there. -
Maybe but I don't see it even if he has 2 great games. I would think Florida would want to see him develop a greater level of consistency in his game before signing him.

I kinda doubt Woods is being looked at real seriously right now. He missed all or most of his Junior season with a knee injury and I know he had mostly got interest from local jucos and had visited Northland CC this fall.
-
Said it before but I'd be very surprised if Zane left after this season and think he will probably be here through his senior season. Lot of goalie depth in the Bruins system so they probably won't push him and he has developed nicely so far at UND. Add to that his dream since he was young was to play for the Sioux so I don't see him giving that up to go play probably at best half the games for some minor league team.

Sioux Gophers the 2014 Championship Edition
SiouxScore replied to Vegas_Sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Well I guess they do share some views as they definitely don't like the Sioux and they certainly see them as rivals but they don't make the stupid jokes about Nazi money, flooding, and wanting UND to burn to the ground but part of that may be because most are from NW Minnesota and they respect the storied tradition of the program as well. They also are smart enough hockey minds to realize we don't have a bunch of old Canadian thugs and are a pretty similar style to what they play. There are stupid fans in every fanbase and I guess I'm just lucky that the Gopher fans I know aren't near as stupid as the guy that wrote that post. -

Wow I know a lot of Gopher fans and have a lot of friends who are Gopher fans but I've never met one that shares this guys attitude. -
I just posted this topic a little bit ago in the community section but the first thing I did was check to make sure there were no Sioux commits who were 18 on that team. I kinda wondered if one wouldn't be Carey just because he was from Moorhead, I had always liked his game and thought he could end up being of interest to a lot of teams but this definitely won't help him at all.

http://www.grandforksherald.com/content/moorhead-police-investigate-two-minor-league-hockey-players-reported-sex-video-15-year-old First thing I did after reading the article was check Lincoln's roster to make sure there aren't any Sioux recruits on it who are 18 and I couldn't find any. This is the type of decision that could really hurt these players chances of ever being able to take the next step in hockey and get teams to stop recruiting them.

I'd be a little surprised to see Guentzel go to CC just because it seems like he is set pretty well at Minnesota and seems to be the next coach of the Gophers when Lucia is done. I guess he could go to CC for a few years and then whenever the Minnesota job opened up head back and take it.

Next year we will probably have 6 or 7 from Minnesota and 4 from North Dakota. I think we are seeing in recruiting that we are going back to recruiting Minnesota very hard based on commits and prospective recruits and I for one am very happy about it. It felt like Hak and staff might have got away from targeting Minnesota for a couple years and now have realized that they need to get back to making that a priority although it can be argued that maybe the cycle of Minnesota players wasn't as good for a couple years and now it is definitely coming back around. Being from Minnesota and playing high school hockey there I will take as many players from Minnesota on the roster as we can get and especially like when we can get someone from section 8. -
I think he was trying to compare the way they both love to shoot the puck and take every chance they have to do so. Yon is only in the NAHL finishing up this season though because he couldn't be added to a USHL team after his high school season finished and I would put a lot of money Yon is in the USHL next year.

Sioux Gophers the 2014 Championship Edition
SiouxScore replied to Vegas_Sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Yeah I've always seen him as from GF on everything, believe he played and graduated from Red River so it is logical to think he is from GF. -
There are a few guys that I think could end up in this situation. Both Voltin and Pelnik are two that I could see never making it to UND but right now they are young enough where the decision probably doesn't need to be made right away and I'd think the coaching staff will be watching them closely to see how their game develops the next year or so. Rowe was probably in the same situation but he seems to have played much better in the 2nd half of the season and making some progress but next year is probably big in determining whether he actually ends up here or not.
-
Forwards- Trevor Olson, John Simonson, and Nick Schmaltz are expected to be here and Shane Gersich could be but I believe he probably ends up coming in 2015 as long as there aren't any significant early departures from our forwards. Schmaltz has the most high end potential while Olson and Simonson are a little older and can play a more physical style but all have produced pretty decent numbers in the USHL and I would expect all to have a pretty good chance to get in the lineup right away. Defense- I would expect Tucker Poolman to be the only guy to come in next season unless Schmaltz decides to leave early but I don't think that will happen. Poolman has put up very good numbers in the USHL and should compete for immediate playing time. Some people have compared him a little bit to LaDue. Wouldn't be surprised if he rotates with one of the other d on Fridays/Saturdays like Ausmus and Thompson did for most of the year. Goalie- Cam Johnson will come in and I would guess be the #2 goalie and maybe see some action every now and then but I think Zane has proved the net is his for near future.

Schloss mentioned the name Eric Rud as a possible candidate, he was a CC assistant the past couple years, was the head coach for the Green Bay Gamblers for a year, and a SCSU assistant for a few years. I'm hoping that they want Gwoz and he comes back and takes the job.
-
Yeah I'm not too sure it would be the right fit for him but I would think CC may be interested in him.
-
Would think Gwozdecky and maybe Eades could be a couple guys who get calls from CC.
-
I don't think we have anything to worry about. Faragher was an undrafted free agent so he probably just decided to take the contract while it was their. Hellebuyck had a great 2 years at Lowell and the Jets offered him a max deal so I imagine that would have been tough for him to pass up. Another highly touted goalie Jon Gillies decided to head back to Providence for another season instead of signing with the Flames. I think Schloss said Providence is scheduled to be at the Ralph next season so that should be a pretty good non-conference series.

I was there too and I would definitely agree. There were comments from TH and the players in post game interviews that night and they said the same thing. -
Wisconsin Soph. forward Nic Kerdiles signs with the Ducks. Gotta think Wisconsin will have a tough time next season.

Mass-Lowell Soph. goalie Connor Hellebuyck has signed with the Jets.
