I feel like this was discussed a while back. Would be amazing, such a fun city.

Believe what you want, the lease and everything related to it is all public information and clearly states that ownership of the building will convert to UND no later than 9/30/30. Yes, it can be renegotiated but it will have nothing to do with what KEM/REA think or what kind of plan they can come up with. Without UND making the call, they have absolutely zero power to stop the change in ownership. And while I think they should find a way to extend the lease, why exactly would UND be looking to do that with a partner who hasn't listened to input on what they have to say, threw a fit in the media when they tried to renegotiate an annual contract that appeared one-sided and had publicly stated she wants no part of a relationship with the school.
-
I don't think you understand how the lease/contract on the REA is written and works. KEM/REA Foundation does not have bargaining power on the ownership of the building after 30 years, which will be the difference in those negotiations (and possibly the downfall) as 2030 nears. The lease states the building is to be turned over to UND after 30 years. Period. The only way it would remain as is, is if UND makes a decision that is what they would like to do. No one can say "you can't have the arena". You very well may be right that they don't want to burden of managing it (which would be the ideal situation), but that again is UND's decision to make and from their position, owning the building and having 100% input might be worth the headache.

There's already an operating agreement that's supposed to be negotiated annually.....that didn't go so well last time UND tried to ask for a few changes, I don't have much faith that it would go any better when you're talking control of the whole building. I'm fully with you that turning it over to UND isn't the ideal situation, but even with a decade plus to go, it is on the path to ending poorly. The problem isn't the management company per se.....it is if UND owns it, there is a lot of flexibility lost on the arena and what they are able to do. Some of it good, some of it bad. For example, do you think if UND owned the arena they would have provided financial backing for the MSG or LV games the way the REA was able to? Remember, there was no guarantee of money being made when the contracts were signed and any loss fell back on the REA (and partially the NCHC for the MSG game). The management company also wouldn't have the capital expenditure oversight that currently resides with the REA, that would fall back to UND.

I agree with you on this point. I don't agree with some of the things the REA does or how some of the agreements are set up, but UND would lose a lot of flexibility in how certain things are run. However KEM stating she wants to have no relationship with UND with Kennedy at the helm is almost forcing their hand in taking it that way. Not sure who is to blame, I'm sure there are things on both sides, but this is becoming a bit of a pattern with one of the sides.

Ketteringham is head and shoulders the best QB on the roster. UND finally has some quality backups if QB1 was to go down, but it really isn't even that close and there would be a drop-off.

Including yourself, who answered that bids have already been submitted, before bothering to look up the correct information (from 6 years ago). And again, forms/information were only available 2 weeks ago (10 days at the time of your statement), so the stance that all bids are already in seems like it isn't fully accurate.

The NCHC helped sponsor and put on the New York game, including helping arrange the match-up, so there is a bit of a difference when trying to use that as a comparison. Good chance that game doesn't happen without that backing and it didn't replace anything. Even if you want to claim UND "lost" a home game, as already stated, UND hosted the HoF game that year, so they picked up an exempt game anyway that replaces any potential loss. At this point, UND/REA probably feels pretty confident they can put the games on themselves and collect more of the revenue.

I'm not sure what time frame you consider "a long time ago", but the information and forms weren't even available until October 15. On top of not wanting to waste an employee's time filling out paperwork a month in advance, it seems it would make more sense to see who is near you on the bubble as that would effect how much a team would bid. Seems to make sense to do that closer to the November 12th deadline. What's funny is it took a 5 second google search to find the actual information for this year instead of something that is 6 years old.

Holm has been the secondary returner on kicks all year and has 7 returns so far (Santiago has 12). Agree that losing him to injury there would be borderline devastating. Maybe they'll be having him fair catch more and just take the ball at the 25 to prevent it. Wouldn't be the first time in recent memory that our return era's only job was to fair catch it. UND's percentage of punts actually returned over the last few years is pretty low, overall wouldn't be a huge difference.

How does a gimmick game 240 miles from their campus lead to a push for a new stadium? On top of that, ticket prices are actually quite pretty cheap considering and they aren't even selling seats the top two levels in left and center field.

It's beyond comical at this point. Also reading about why SDSU is struggling (injuries) is a bit amusing as well.

The same terrible Griz team that beat UNI....
-
Pretty sure they are just bar rail seating right above the normal seats, below the suites. During normal events, there is beverage service but going out on a limb and guessing that won't be an option for the regional games.

Must have read the GF Herald gameday page....
-
The actual ticket software and back end systems used are Ticketmaster's, not UND's, it is just templated into the UND website.

There were multiple people streaming it in the stands at the hockey game.

Good week to do Military appreciation, that should help out a little bit.

My understanding was yes even though the football schedule was set before the hockey game. They might have had a chance to get it changed since the schedules were tweaked when Idaho came back but I don't think the Big Sky was looking to do UND any favors but then and rearrange multiple games.

Earlier this year, talked with a former player who had plenty of insight on kickers. He said it's all mental at this point, appears it's not fixing itself. Not sure what the answer is, but running a fake field goal probably doesn't help it. For what it's worth, he had pretty good ratings from some legitimate kicking camps before he was on campus. Whatever it is, it needs to get fixed. The majority of special team gaffes continue to be execution on the part of individual players. If they can't get it done, the coaches need to figure out who can.

North Dakota vs. Minnesota in Las Vegas - October 2018
jdub27 replied to fargosioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Guessing the logistics for them to get extra planes here wasn't worth it for them. They don't have tons of extra planes to begin with and to fly empty ones to GF/Fargo, then have it sit for a coue days before coming back from Vegas only up leave empty and go somewhere else just wasn't worth it for them. Flexibility and their business model don't exactly go hand in hand. I'm guessing they filled the existing flights at high prices and are happy with that. -
He shoots lefty so it looks odd, but he shot 48.1% from the field last year. Got that crazy old man midrange game.

Good thing the football team is on the road, I heard the hockey team is being punished and being forced to use the football locker rooms for the weekend and hopefully force them to play with some extra grit.

Sure, but people also need to remember it took multiple large upsets in conference tournaments for UND to miss the national tournament. No argument about them putting themselves in that spot, but almost every year the last decade, they make the tournament in the spot they finished in and in fact have made it finishing lower than that.
