  1. To your point, they finished in the exact same spot in the Pairwise that they had in previous years and made the tournament during the streak, the chips just didn't fall in their favor last year, yet somehow we need to jump off a ledge. Not to mention #14 in the Pairwise had made the tournament every year since 2008. No one is excited about it, but to pretend they hadn't been in the same spot before and got a bounce or two go their way to get into the tournament is just putting your head in the sand.
  2. I think both sides are a fair point on the salary portion. It's obvious she's been in this (similar) line of work for an extended period of time, so her major isn't all that relevant at this point, considering her experience, and it appears by all accounts that she does an excellent job, so I'm not all that worked up over that portion. It is probably just as fair to ask why a University President need a $185K/year attorney to be their Chief of Staff when the NDUS has a whole team of legal counsel. Before he was hired, that position did not exist at NDSU, it was created for this specific individual when they realigned legal counsels. Until we know what the actual job duties of each are, tough to make a comparison on the salary portion one way or another. However, I won't argue that the idea of paying for her travel up to $25K/year is just poor judgement. I understand the explanation they tried to use but they needed to take a step back on that one and see how it looks. Tough to sell the idea on a Chief of Staff who's only present a limited portion of the time.
  3. No doubt the optics on this are less than great and it feeds perfectly into those that don't care for MK. Also, I'm not sure how that job functions and if doing it remotely is realistic, though it seems like someone who's working on site would be more effective, but as always, some of this is a little more nuanced than the knee jerk reactions. NDSU hired a Chief of Staff a few years ago, which was in the news as the individual that was hired there was previously on staff at NDSU as legal counsel. The state moved all legal counsel under the NDUS, so he was out of a job. Instead of applying for a job in Bismarck, NDSU hired him as chief of staff. His salary is about $183K/year and is in line with the average/median salaries stated by UND. While the individual at NDSU is an attorney, I don't know if that job actually requires a JD nor do I do know if the UND and NDSU jobs have similar duties but they do share titles and have a pretty significant difference in salaries.
  4. From the article: This isn't the 247Sports "star" rating formula, or Rivals.com. It's only based on scholarship offers. If you held at least three FCS offers? You added bonus points to your school's ranking. But no matter what? If you signed with your school, you helped in the ranking below in our formula. We consider all D-1 scholarship offers of the 2,500 or so FCS signees ... P5 offers? FBS offers? FCS? How many? And if you signed with your favorite school? The offers are "tiered" and you helped the "score" because we gave credence to quantity AND quality. Once again, everybody who signed with an FCS school helped their school's rating in the formula. I mean, how can you give much credence to that. Not a chance they knew every kid's offers and how many of them were even committable? Also, some kids shut down their recruitment after they commit there and other offers they get (or would have got) are never made public. As previously stated, fine piece for conversation, but pretty short on actual relevance due to the shadiness of recruiting in general and here's a prime example of how accurate this kind of thing is:
  5. Champions Club member don't get into the NDSU game for free. Ticket revenues for that alone are more than WIH, including playoffs.
  6. I'm the end, how do you think it ends up being covered genius?
  7. Those fees were approved by the students. Do you realize that your athletic department showed a $857K deficit last year?
  8. He said it was a stimulant, not that it wasn't illegal. Ndsu was going to appeal it regardless, it's common practice, especially considering they are the ones being pointed at for being the provider of whatever caused the failed test. How many failed tests does it take to be dismissed from the team? Or does it depend on the substance? I'm also guessing that a "trusted staff member" providing the substance plays a role in that decision as well.
  9. I mean, it could be worse: Florida State lost out at the last minute on the QB they thought they were signing after the same thing happening in December. They also didn't sign a QB last year, meaning back to back classes without a QB. On top of that, they are currently down to 1 eligible scholarship QB on their roster. They obviously have options with grad transfers and and have some one or two high quality walk-ons, plus already have a QB commit for 2020 but not a great situation for an incredibly high status program.
  10. NDSU - 8/20 UND - 3/14 Three point shooting was the difference between two not very good teams. The only bright side? Hopefully it buys Richman a few more years down in Fargo.
  11. Want to expand on why one or two of NDSU's players were suspended and/or dismissed over the last year or two?
  12. Good breakdown of Schuster's accolades, offers, interests, etc: https://football.thedzone.com/players/tommy-schuster
  13. Here are some actual numbers instead of rambling that makes no sense. MVFC "Revenues" UND - $28.2 million ISU - $27.9 million NDSU - $27.3 million MSU - $26.4 million UND w/o MIH - $23.0 million SIU - $22.1 million SDSU - $22.1 million UNI - $19.5 million USD - $19.3 million ISU - $16.1 million YSU - $15.4 million WIU - $11.9 million While those numbers don't actually tell anywhere near a full story, the ballpark of what men's hockey directly adds to it is $5.2 million. UND also just improved the expense side of their equation by about $3 million, which will start reflecting on the next report that is released.
  14. PWO from Wyoming, seems like that staff has had an eye for QB's.
  15. I mean, it took around a month for the Forum to reach out and get a comment, it seems that she has had plenty of time to get herself together and be confident in what she is saying.
  16. You're ignoring the comment the mom made that the supplement came from a trusted staff member.....so either ndsu, or someone who is considered to be a staff member, provided it or an NDSU hall of fame member is unnecessarily making accusations with seemingly nothing to gain.
  17. I know you said it is common for players to take pre-workout supplements before lifting, and I have no arguments there and fully agree that is commonplace everywhere, however I don't think that really applies to this situation. How common is it that players are ingesting supplements ("pre-workout" or others) before games? That would seem to be the issue since he was over the NCAA limit on some sort of stimulant after being tested after the semi-final game. Was it a mistake by taking too much or for some reason did the body not metabolize it is as fast as normal so he got popped for it.
  18. True, but the AD also specifically stated he received it from another student-athlete. That comment is quoted directly in the article.
  19. Oddly enough, McFeely wrote an article lauding Mr. Newman a few days before the FCS championship. So NDSU reimburses for travel, but who's actually paying him because he isn't doing it for free. Also, again if true and that is where it came from, what is the relationship to the supplements he's allegedly recommending/providing? Is it something he is profiting by selling them to the school or student-athletes? Seems like a lot of questions that would have been a good follow-up because now there is just a ton of speculation.
  20. If that accusation is true, what is going on that a motivational speaker is allowed to recommend and supply supplements to players? Holy hell that is a lack of control.
  21. And what happens with the results of those in-season, non-playoff tests? Who administers punishment, if any, for failure of those those? Hint - NDSU gets the results, not the NCAA, and they aren't required to do anything with the results. BR had been taking it since halfway through the season by his own admission yet skated by without it being picked up. Though I seem to remember a handful of "violation of team rules" resulting in a game or two suspensions over the year with no other explanations, but then again, if they are failing tests from things being given by the coach, probably let those ones slide.
  22. Based on the Forum's willingness to break these stories, can you say without a doubt that is accurate? There have multiple players who have been suspended or left the team due to "violation of team rules" with no explanation or followup.
  23. I'll give him credit for writing something but with how pissed the parents are, it was going to come out, just like the suspension did, eventually. He sure didn't follow up anywhere as much as he could have though which is a benefit to ndsu. Left a lot of plausible deniability out there when there is plenty more details that could be mentioned.
  24. Clearly she had an axe to grind as NDSU's first WBB All-American and member of the athletics hall of fame.... But as the saying goes, "Once a bison always a bison (until it is inconvenient)."
