1. UND has one vote, the same as everyone else. 2. How much leverage do you think a startup college hockey conference actually has? 3. How does it compare to the WCHA's TV contract? And other conferences outside of the B1G?
-
I think you would have been much more disappointed in a watered down WCHA where the "have-nots" would have all the sudden had the majority vote.

Anyone attend the Fan Luncheon today and hear what Muss had to say? Was unable to make it.
-
UND may need to use the short passing game as an extension of the run game. Not ideal, but Montana's front 7 is very good. Hopefully Jackson can cause some serious match-up issues from the slot with either a slower LB or a smaller DB.

Exposure is important but you need to also take into account the financial implications which some people continue to ignore.

I'm not as informed on the whole FTA landscape as you are, or anywhere close for that matter, though a few years back I did look quite a bit into them. That aside, Jayson did respond to that comment saying that he was going off of information from what someone in the industry had told him and apologized for what may have been bad information. I think we're pretty lucky that he is willing to come on to a board where he takes a lot of heat, directly and indirectly, and does his best to explain and inform the die-hard fans that frequent this board. My thought is the first webcast or two are going to be a disappointment as I think Nuelion will truly underestimate the resources they will need to dedicate to this. Once they get it figured out, I believe it will be fine. Maybe not HD quality, but at least equal to what the majority of people were getting on FCS. These guys handle NFL, NBA, NHL and CFL games along with streaming for quite a few major colleges. Again, that is a disappointment for the FTA people, but I agree with Jayson that you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I just hope he plays like he did last week. My guess is he came out feeling like there was nothing to lose. Hopefully he stays in that mind frame and doesn't start second guessing himself, which will lead to mistakes. His instincts are great, he needs to go with them.

UND also showed how strong those vaunted MVFC defense can be. Apparently the forward pass hasn't made it to that part of the country yet. Move your trolling elsewhere...
-
Kind of like wondering how many times Joe Schobert would have stuffed Zenner last week.
-
He did. Demler and Comes both left the team after 1 and 2 years respectively and Bradley only made it one year. There was a QB in each class (excluding a redshirt) in 2011. Two of those QB's graduated, 2 left the program. That is where the hole occured. And after how the last JuCo experience went, I see why Mussman didn't try again. A guy like Hanson is a very rare occurence. Here's what the QB roster has looked like since 2009: 2009 Landry - Jr Goska - So Hendrickson - RFr Nichols - RFr Townsend - Fr 2010 Landry - Sr Goska - Jr Nichols - So Hendrickson - So Demler - Fr Comes - Fr 2011 Goska - Sr Hendrickson - Jr Bradley - So Comes - RFr 2012 B. Hanson - Sr Hendrickson - Sr Bartels - Fr J. Hanson - Fr Mollberg - Fr 2013 Bartels - RFr J. Hanson - RFr Mollberg - RFr Riddle - Fr (has left team) Palendech - Fr QB's recruited by year: 2009 - 1 2010 - 2 2011 - 0 2012 - 3 2013 - 2
-
If Mollberg plays a terrible first half, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Bartels come out and start the second half. And at some point, a coach assumes that one of the two separates himself. And Jake Hanson has nothing to do wtih the conversation. He was not in the conversation as a starter (1A and 1B). Muss is getting hammered (rightfully so) for sticking with Miller at RB, which isn't working. But you want him to do that exact same thing at QB. I'm not saying they should rotate, but if one of them is absolutely not getting it done, why are you going to leave him out there when the other guy offers a slightly different skill set that may translate better. Bring him in and let him finish the game. As I keep saying, these guys are young and barely have any game experience above college, the coaches aren't real sure what they have. They need to have real playing time to see which one will be "the guy".
-
Muss didn't do last game what he did last year. Last year he tried rotating quarterbacks, it didn't work. This year, he pulled a struggling freshman to see what the other freshman could provide. Seemed to provide a spark. Bartels didn't come back in once Mollberg was on the field. If you can't see the difference then I can't help you. So your logic is once camp is over, the depth chart is set and it shouldn't change?
-
By your logic, Bartels finishes the game last week. And the coaches get absolutely roasted for not trying something different because what they were doing wasn't working. As has been stated over and over again, these guys are extremely young and have seen barely any game action. Practices aren't the same as a real game and you don't know what you have until you see it on the field. One of them needs to show they have "it" in a game. Mollberg took a decent step in that direction last week. I'm sure the coaches would be more than happy to give the reins to one guy and let him run with it. Hasn't happened yet.

I'll preface by saying it is unfortunate for fans who used FTA that they won't be able to access it anymore. But, I'm sure UND did a cost/benefit analysis of the situation. Previously they were paying to produce the broadcast and then maybe getting some of those costs back with advertising. Now they not only don't have to bear the costs of producing the content but Midco is also going to give them $1 million over the next five years to do it for them. Maybe looking back it will be a bad decision on UND's part, but I can see where their thought process came from.
-
I understand this for the most part, though don't necessarily agree with it. It isn't like the "of-age" students are being prevents from drinking. There are a couple stands set up on that side of the concourse, though I understand the frustration of not being able to bring them down into their seats. Halftime is long enough to have a beer or two to keep you going.
-
Poor product on the field for a couple years coupled with not real great home schedules killed the student interest. It has slowly picked back up, particularly with the tailgating area targeted at them. Still nowhere near what it was 10 years ago, but there have been improvements. Hoping the remember how fun last year's game was and stay to make a difference. The Alerus is capable of getting loud and making a difference.
-
Surprisingly, it makes me feel a little better than both of you said he didn't show any rust, though a little surprising with a year off at the QB position. As a fan, I'm excited to see him play. As a UND fan, I'm a little concerned and hoping some rust shows up. Regardless, if last year is any indication then lack of excitement won't be an issue.
-
Does it look like he has any rust from sitting out a year or did he look back to his old self game 1 against App? I think he will make a difference, but I think both teams have changed a little since last year. Gonna call it now and say Golladay has a break-out game. The kid is big, fast and can jump out of the building. He will win pretty much any one on one battle and with the attention I think Hardin will get, he should have that chance. I also see a pretty good game from Jackson again because of the attention Hardin will likely get. Will also be interesting to see how UND can get Jackson the ball, saw a new dimension last week with the Wildcat. The guy is a TE in a playing WR, going to get a fair amount of YAC due to his size and how hard he is to take down in the open field. Hopefully some 2nd half adjustments on the defensive side carry over and we see some improvement. Don't see the Griz trying to turn the game into a track meet again like last year, lesson likely learned on their part. They will try to shorten the game with long drives and after watching SDSU, I don't blame them. And let's see some change of pace in the backfield!
-
Not sure I'm buying that excuse. Was about as even as it gets. From last year's game: Time of Possession UM: 30:03 UND: 29.57 2nd Half TOP UM: 16:01 UND: 13:59 Total Offesnsive Plays UM: 86 UND: 85
-
Really going all out to become part of FU's squad aren't you?
-
Saying someone who played average at best is average isn't smack talk. And average with the running game they had going is kind of a disappointment especially after how much you talked him up before the game. Not sure why you think compliments to Zenner seem to be a slam on Sumner, but I sure would have rather had SDSU put the game on Sumner's arm than Zenner's legs.

NDSU football players clean up resumes, apply for openings in record numbers...
-
You must not know much about MSU or McGhee then. And you predicted a 4 score loss this past weekend. This changes the dynamics of the game significantly.
-
I'm thinking/hoping there were some growing pains with some of the young guys and learning the playbook. Starting to look like they may have to let them loose and hope they know enough. Seems like there is too much talent on the sidelines and not getting enough playing time.
-
Not sure what to think of the Griz. The win against App St lost some of its shine this weekend with App falling to NCA&T in Boone. Having Johnson back will definitely improve their offense. My guess is another shootout. I see a big day for Golladay because Hardin is going to be getting a lot attention after last year's performance.
