Like Bruns, Ihenacho and Ndoukou? I am not as concerned about recruiting the talent as I am about retaining it. That's the piece that needs to be figured out.

It wasn't even near 90%, with Nelson, Morgan and Skunberg returning, 2 of which play at around an all-conference caliber, but yes they lost a lot. And their incredibly inconsistency shows it. However our game against them was a complete joke. The coaching staff has been pretty straight forward on that, saying that was the one game this year the team absolutely did not compete. I would be surprised to see a similar result tomorrow.

Around just under 40% of the minutes played this year come from kids who had never played a D1 college basketball game before this season. Levias did play at a community college two years ago and then was injured last year, so if you want to pull out his minutes, that still leaves 1/3 of the total minutes being played by true freshman. That clearly isn't the only issue, those players give UND the best chance to win so they need to be on the floor. They also need to adapt to the speed and learn to win at this level. They are running out of time on this season, hopefully some of the flashes they've shown can hold up instead of panicking and watching leads slip away. Just for comparison, NDSU also has around 38% of their minutes coming from freshman. They are also, not surprisingly, incredibly inconsistent. They have the advantage of leaning on a fringe NBA prospect and one of the better big men in the Summit in Nelson and Morgan along with Skunberg who has played quite a few minutes in his couple years there. Oral Roberts has 1 freshman on their roster and he averages a whopping 7.4 minutes a game. SDSU is at about 27% (including RS-Fr Mors).

I'm sure people are pretending that is real, but I'd really like to know where an additional $10 million or so annually is going to come from. The only FBS conference who might be remotely interested right now is C-USA and that's because they are a dumpster fire. NDSU doesn't add more revenue than they would get in return to the MWC or AAC. Might work for the MAC but.... Geography is a real thing. Even for an football-only invite, their location does not add anything that benefits other conferences, unless they can convince someone that 3+ hours to the MSP market unlocks that somehow. Doesn't work on the media side of things and it is a pretty big stretch as it relates to recruiting. The MAC is such a tight knit footprint that Fargo to Dekalb (the closest MAC school) is 600 miles. Dekalb to Buffalo (the furthest bus trip in the MAC) is also 600 miles.

Still waiting to see all these quotes that prove the strawman argument's you build up to justify your ridiculous attitude. You continue to argue things that no one is saying all while actually ignoring the full scope of situations and calling the ones you do see excuses. No one has said things are anywhere near perfect. No one has said that there isn't definite room for improvement. Everyone agrees that things need to be looked and evaluated across the board from staff to resources to facilities. You are so far out of bounds in your criticism it's becoming comical. It must be absolutely miserable that every little thing the institution you supposedly support does makes you react the way you do.

Who's UND going to play to draw a crowd that makes it worthwhile there? The two answers are NDSU and maybe SDSU. Is playing a conference game there instead of the Alerus really a net positive for the football team? And that's assuming the opponent signs off on it. I could see trying to schedule St. Thomas there now that they are D1 but you have to find a year they can play and then hope Target Field would be able to accommodate.

Fair, but the huge focus continues to be the need to get HPCII done (along with another smaller project that should be announced soon). I think they have done some pretty creative things to find funding sources for projects (see Memorial Village). That doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement, because it is definitely there. No one in the athletic department would argue any differently. Part of that also falls with the Alumni Foundation. Bringing Brekke back (who has a lot of ties to the MBB program) should help with that. The water was soured with basketball alums under the previous regime and the current staff has been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to improve it and I believe they've made some decent progress there. If you look at the Betty, there is a donor wall that would reflect some of that.

If you're going to be constantly negative, then don't be surprised that those people who have/use a different perspective to voice their opinions. I don't think anyone thinks everything is perfect or even close to it. But you do you.

Just because everyone doesn't demand instant change or coaches fired at the drop of a hat, does not mean people don't want more. There is zero guarantee that change equates to instant success. Some people believe in a process to set groundwork for sustained success. And it isn't easy nor guaranteed. You need to trust the right people are in place to do the job and understand the tools/resources they have to move forward.

Speaking of twisting words and taking out of context... What exactly do you think happens when AD's are weighing the cost/benefit of letting a coach go and buy-outs occur? That last few big ones at UND were more than funded by general operating funds. And that is what happens across the country.

I wouldn't normally condone it, but with the way things have changed, mainly with the transfer portal, I wouldn't be surprised to see it. So he was clearly an upgrade over the prior coach? Too bad the program was already spiraling before he showed up. Two freshman of the year (regardless of whether they were pushed into extended playing time) that have other D1 offers disagrees with part of your recruiting comments. Now if you said trouble retaining talent, then we might be on to something. Oh really? What was the connection to get him to apply? I'd really like to know where his narrative is coming from? I don't think anyone has advocated or even thought an extension is on the table. The only way I could see that remotely happening is if the team shows a little more life the rest of the season, Sather can show he has a vision and the future is on the roster and those on the roster make it clear they aren't staying if Sather leaves. And at that point, you're likely talking a 1 year extension to show that it will work. Again, no is advocating for this, but this is the only way I see this made up scenario people railing against being even a possibility. On the flip side, a group could get together, present the check for the buyout of next year's contract, and we move on. I'm sure we have some people here who are ready to write a check to help out their cause.

Considering Memorial Village is privately funded venture, not sure what you're raising money for there?

Beyond what I said, I honestly don't have anything more. But the source that what seemed to be a pretty highly regarded commit couldn't be better. Wish I had more details.

Who's arguing for an extension?

2019: 271 (Jones players and coaching) Not sure what they point of continuing to point out what was on the team (or frankly not on the team) when Sather showed up? Things have clearly went downhill from there. A combination of a bare cupboard, inability to reload, coaching decisions, transfer portal, VISA issues, Covid, etc, etc, etc. It obviously hasn't worked out anywhere near the way anyone would hope.

Seems to me there was more to his "question" than that....

Wonder if any of that is correlated with significant budget cuts across the whole University, including athletics (which was more than just a few teams being cut)?
