It's all coach-speak either way but I think it is also pretty fair to assume you would have also jumped all over a "business as usual" type of response. What actual type of (realistic) reaction/commentary would have passed muster?
-
But the coaches are paid at a median level and the results, while disappointing for everyone's expectations, definitely exceed that.
-
I'd be curious on some actual examples of this. Spoke to a few of them in the last week and got a different vibe. They are just as or more frustrated than any fan (outside of a few who's expectations that I'm not even sure NDSU meets).
-
At minimum he had interviews about it. Interesting given some of the commentary he made.
-
Lol. Yes, never. Good on Deboer, happy for him.

Always had great service and good food there. Appreciate they try to go outside the box on things you aren't going to find on other menus in town. Absolutely. List was "fancy" not best food.
-
Harry's, Helix, Toasted Frog, Ely's and Skies are likely the top 5 fancier places in town. Order is debatable depending on preferences and the night.
-
FBS team and 4 of the 8 final teams this season. Isn't going to be a cakewalk by any means.

Glad I live rent free in your head. I've never had an issue contacting or talking to those I've wanted to give input to through email/phone calls/personal conversations. I also realize that my opinion is just that, mine. I understand what's on my mind or a I consider a priority isn't universal. Also, commissioners can't waive a magic wand and fix something magically at a school. A bit outside the realm of their reach, unless of course they worded contracts with minimum standards in order to be eligible for payments. Maybe you could start a GoFundMe for the schools with sub-par broadcasts to help them out?

Hearing in line with the top of what the NDSU players were allegedly offered.

NDSU made the semis last year and had a ton of guys transferred out. JMU is having an amazing year and has a ton of guys in the portal.
-
A couple guys are grad transferring that have a good shot at P5 schools with NIL money and a few underclassmen that were likely to see reduced playing time. I wish the grad transfers (OL and DE particularly) would have stuck around one more year but I don't blame them. Outside of those who have a chance to cash in, there has maybe been on surprise one everyone else that has announced they are moving on. And I'm not even sure on that one given a few other factors. Wish them the best, hopefully they find what they are looking for (NIL money and more playing time). This is the unfortunate new reality of college football. There is a core group that needs to be kept out of the portal that don't fit that mold that would be cause for significant concern. And even then I expect one or two because college football is the wild west right now.

When you've played on 5 teams in 10 seasons (and you tried leaving those teams more than once), sometimes self-reflection is necessary. Wish him the best but both parties are better off that he moved on.
-
They managed it with Tommy and Quincy (who flipped his commitment from Old Dominion) for multiple seasons. QV was so bought in that he switched positions just to help the team out his senior year. He's also shown to have incredibly high level character which helps.

Absolutely. It is almost like there is occasionally more to it than just looking at a record. We have people flipping out because they are already assuming some sort of mythical extension for Bubba, when he at least has a winning record and playoff berths 4 of the last 5 years. And to be clear, there's no argument the postseason results have been anything but disappointing. Just pointing out that both USD and SDSU appear to have been rewarded for loyalty. Doesn't work for everyone, but starting over isn't always the only choice.
-
I was being facetious because USD not only kept Nielson around after going 3-8 last year and being 30-41 the previous 7 seasons, but USD also gave him an extension. And I'm not sure if you have heard (over and over and over), decisions like that are unacceptable in countless number of ways. Firing everyone and starting over is the quickest way to see improvements. He did let go of his long-time OC and brought in the passing coordinator/WR coach from SDSU to run the offense.
-
See, a head coaching change can do wonders for a program!
-
Good on Red to bet on himself by going and playing JuCo up in the Iron Range. Glad UND was able to give him his shot at D1 football. Both parties will be better off in the future.
-
Because they all want home games as well.

Triggered? Or just amused by the randomness ideas are tossed out? We have people complaining that the head football coach doesn't have an eye for talent, can't hire the right assistants and holds on to them too long then in the next breath thinks he should be put in charge of hiring head coaches for the entire athletic department. Whether you agree with any or even some of that, you literally can't make this stuff up.... For starters, I would hope they would do a national search like they did last time. Given the upgrades and commitment to athletics the University has shown, I would see it being an even more attractive job than it previously was. If you want to look internally (which is should definitely not be limited to), Mannausau applied last time but his career path has veered even further away from an AD type role and Martinson is very well respected by his peers. Similar to last time, I think one or both would get a fair look and the best candidate would be given the job.

Well, we've finally hit galaxy brain portion of the offseason and it isn't even 72 hours old. First off, being a D2 Athletic Director vs a D1 Athletic Director are completely different things. And the landscape of college athletics has changed just slightly over the last 25-30 years. This isn't a knock on RT (or BS) but things like this are why it is tough to take most of the commentary here seriously any more.

Had not heard Bohl turning down SMU before? Why would he do that and then end up at Wyoming? Seems like a bad miscalculation if true. Not disagreeing with what you said, just pointing out that coaches leaving NDSU every 5 years to bigger things (shockingly) isn't accurate at all.
-
Except that isn't true: Bohl was at NDSU for 11 seasons. Klieman was there for 8 season, 5 as head coach. Entz has been there 10 seasons, in his 5th as head coach.
-
On top of that, schools also aren't going to overcount playoff attendance as they have to pay a percentage (or the guarantee, whichever is larger) of sales to the NCAA. Can't remember if it is still the case, but I also seem to remember some sort of limit on what you could set the lowest price at and it correlated to season ticket prices. So you couldn't sell a bunch of $5 tickets to fill up the place. Might have been some sort of exclusion for student tickets though.

Go undefeated and there's nothing to worry about, blah, blah but between that, the 2015 screw job and the faux seed for Weber last year....it's beyond ridiculous. Add in a few hockey things (BU at Scheels, overtime game against UMD) and when rules and standards need to be changed after the fact and you're on the wrong side of every one of them, not sure what to say anymore.
