Can we have a thread titled "Fetch's Random Thoughts"?
-
There's conflicting information on whether UND is using the turf from the Alerus or not. I (and others) were under the assumption they were but VMeister said they weren't. I've never seen it confirmed one way or another.
-
Not to mention the continued negative press and attention that was drawn to UND and brought up any time UND was in the news because of it or the resources that have continued to be allocated towards it. I'd prefer to talk about the performance on the field/ice/court/classroom rather than what's on the front of the jerseys.
-
I was included in that group as well. My point was that it is an issue that isn't going to go away or improve and it becomes a balance of whether the negative connotations and publicity are worth it. For multiple reasons in UND case, the situation was a net negative.
-
Like the protests against the name in Cleveland and Washington? Cleveland continues to move away from the imagery but Dan Snyder continues to keep his head in the sand.
-
I've been inside, massive doesn't really do it justice. Can't wait to see once the inside is finished.

Agree very much with your first statement. Qualification on your second statement, I believe that this camp did run for a time when Mussman was head coach at UND (or at least AHC/OC for sure) and only went on hiatus because Bollinger had conflicts. That being said, sounds like him (and his dad) have a good relationship with Bubba and that was part of the reason for starting it back up again. Not sure if they had something similar in the interim but doubtful that it would have had the "name recognition" element without Brooks.

Weird how NDSU fans and staff seem to be the ones embarssed about it. But just another game on the schedule. Have they said it enough times to convince themselves of it yet?
-
Red River spells it Roughriders and uses Roosevelt imagery as do the Frisco RoughRiders (who seem to use a hybrid spelling of the two, one word but capitalize both R's). Also, the committee has the power to make slight adjustments as they see fit to any remaining finalists (such as changing "North Stars" to "Stars", etc)
-
Not to mention it was a one line snippet from a multiple hour meeting. Guessing KG said a lot of things that could be interpreted many ways when they are presented with little to no context.
-
Correct. Just clarifying that North Dakota didn't officially adopt it until 1911.
-
The Roughrider unit formed in 1898. North Dakota adopted their flag in 1911.

Sure there'd be some additional TV Revenues to help bridge the current $48 million gap between them and Iowa State (lowest budget Big12 team) but I'm kind of thinking that since $25 million of that is in ticket sales/contributions (120% of NDSU's current total athletic department budget) is kind of a gaping wound that has no possible way to be filled....

Tim Ryan - 5'11" FS out of Huntley, IL Evan Holm - 6' CB/WR out of Edina, MN Jordan Canady - 6'2" WR out of New Berlin, WI Alonzo Addae - 6' CB/WR out of Beaverton, OR

Condolences to his family and friends. I know there is a handful of former players that read and post here, some who played with Travis, sorry for your loss.
-
I'm already seeing and hearing excuses and claims of how UND will play dirty. Also a handful of #hottakes on some plays from the Montana game from last year from a bunch of geniuses who didn't see a single second of the game. What a bunch of garbage. Glad Schmidt's defense already has the fans thinking about a physical game. Can't wait to see what he has drawn up to bring pressure out of the 3-4.

Title Nine: Our Prong is Bigger Than Your Prong

Title IX is about opportunities, something NDSU feels no need to offer at a proportionate rate for women. But whatever helps you actually avoid the issue. 129 women vs. 282 men. Participation rank of 340 out of 347 Division 1 schools. Those are facts. -

Then why the preemptive defense? I haven't seen any other school put out a disclaimer like that. I know they use different prongs, but the U of M is getting investigated and their participation rate for women far exceeds NDSU. Are you saying a ratio of 2.2 opportunities for men for every 1 opportunity for women is something to be proud of? Yes, I'm sure scholarships and not having to pay for their own equipment and travel is something they definitely would not be interested in. -
Small clarification, No. 3 senior QB. Still incredibly impressive.
-
1 year as player. Or are you just embarrassed because you whiffed 3 or 4 different times on who the new assistant was going to be?
-
I blame Padilla.
-
Just want to make sure I understand your stance: You are basically saying the only nickname that should ever be acceptable to be used at the University of North Dakota is Fighting Sioux and if that isn't possible there should never be another one chosen?
-
"No nickname" was 2 votes out of 11 from being completely removed from consideration, it is possible that there is hope it just goes away naturally and there is no need to get the NCAA involved in the situation at all. And honestly, if the NCAA has spoken on the matter and given their blessing for "no nickname" (and I personally don't think they have), what's the best case answer they could actually give - "Sure, its fine today but we continue to reserve the right to change our mind and policies at any point".
-
I'd rephrase it to "Why don't you want a nickname?". UND always has been and always will be North Dakota regardless of what nickname is chosen.
-
I guess I'm not sure what doesn't make sense to you. Hakstol seemed to understand it when he came out publicly in favor of retiring the nickname because of the challenges it caused for the athletic department, some of which still continue to exist because the issue still isn't resolved. Hockey is one of the sports that would be least affected by any issues and even so, they have a $100+ million state of the art arena to fallback on. You aren't comparing apples to apples. Just because it doesn't have a huge effect on hockey doesn't mean it isn't an issue within the rest of the athletic department. But I guess the other programs just need to recruit better. You know what would make that easier? Not having to deal with the nickname issue in additional to the typical BS stuff they (and all other coaches) go up against.
