  1. Just so there can be some record of what actually happened: "President Kelley, if we send him North Dakota, no nickname, I think he could just disband the committee or just say we could start over or he could just veto it," Bridewell said. As already stated, Kelley was not at the meeting nor was any commentary from him read. The comment was strictly an opinion put forth by one of the committee members stating why he felt the committee tasked with picking a new nickname should actually pick a nickname.
  2. I didn't get my way, my top choice was eliminated long, long ago. Ask and ye shall receive. Source here. There is also a handful that changed to a variation of "Hawks" that previously didn't have a NA related nickname that is not included on the list below. Not to mention Hawks (or some variation of) is used by 28 other 4-year schools, the 8th most popular.
  3. Have you not been paying attention at all? That's exactly why the first committee set forth the criteria to form this committee and how the members were chosen. Everyone on it, including multiple students / student-athletes, was picked to represent specific groups of stakeholders. And I absolutely think that someone who threatens to drop their donation and support of UND is punishing student-athletes. Not sure what else you would call it? Each person is free to feel what they want with their money, but let's call a spade a spade. All of the sudden people don't get their way and the committee "had an agenda" and "it was all a show". I challenge anyone to contact some of the members of the committee and ask them those questions.
  4. You mean the petulant, vocal crowd that are finally seeing that Fighting Sioux is actually not coming back? The ones threatening to punish student-athletes by dropping their donations and support because of decisions not made by them? I don't consider those people fans of the University of North Dakota. They are fans of an inanmate logo that was retired a few years ago.
  5. I agree that I was hoping something unique and great would have come out of the selection process, but I think everyone, myself included, underestimated how far the consultants would dull everything down. My favorite choice was Nokota and that got cut for the asinine reason that it "might sound Native American related". I don't think the majority of the finals is all that shocking. Roughriders has been a popular and obvious choice since long before this process started. The PC crowd has been pushing Sundogs for a decade. The consultants were going to get <adjective> Hawks in. Nodaks is terrible and so uninspiring and unremarkable that I think it kind of just keeps trudging along because it doesn't draw any emotion. North Stars would actually be OK but being that it is the state motto of Minnesota, I just don't get it. In early May, I predicted "Roughriders / Stars / Flame/Spirit/Sundog/inanimate object" as the final three. I wasn't too far off. I didn't mean to pick specifically on your posts, they just happen to highlight exactly the point I was trying to make, that there are people calling out someone that has done more for UND than any of them ever will, is incredibly well informed and has UND's best interest in mind.
  6. Weird how you didn't bother to correct those who keep saying "no nickname" was the most popular option, which is also nothing more than an opinion.
  7. The fact that there are people, including former and current student athletes, calling out the comment about "courage" and making a mockery of it tells you everything you need to know about their complete lack of knowledge of the whole situation. Lowell Schweigert bleeds a deeper green and has done more for UND than any of them will ever even dream of doing. Ding ding ding. Might be the least shocking revelation of the whole thing outside of the consultants pushing for <insert adjective> Hawks.
  8. I will give you at least half credit for this but it was teetering on the brink. Hopefully that was the last "unpredictable" twist.
  9. Wow. Well, that reactions to this will be entertaining.
  10. Burleson originally tweeted it was "off the list". Bad word usage on her part, as they were at that point just discussing to remove it. Just for the record, that is the second time "no nickname" has been on the table to be removed as the lowest scoring remaining name and has somehow received a stay of execution both times.
  11. Well I agree with the lowest. The fairly surprising. Teeder, care to show them the list below and inform that its no surprise the consultants haven't said much, if any, negative things about Hawks:
  12. Reading between some lines on some comments I've heard, I have a feeling there is a better chance of a UND/NDSU match-up in MSP than NDSU/UNI. Both are a long shot but I'd bet on the former having a fairly higher probability than the latter.
  13. It was only two votes away from happening at the last meeting.
  14. Faison didn't make a single comment to the media until he was reached out to after Taylor made comments about the game to Izzo. But revisionist's history is a prerequisite at Fargo U, so no surprise you don't have a clue.
  15. When UND's Blue Key shut down, the UND Student Government was given the responsibility to be their stand-in. Faison is on record saying both sides agreed the trophy wasn't going to be played for going forward. Well it was never played for during playoffs, so there is precedence that it has only been played for during annual regular season games. And considering it is a rivalry trophy and UND fan's are told over and over again that they are no longer NDSU's rival, not sure what the point of playing for it would be.
  16. Good question. UND is no longer the Fighting Sioux but somehow groups of fans at both North Dakota D-1 Universities can't seem to figure it out. A decade plus of not playing on the gridiron yet the chants continue to show up weekly in Fargo. But "none of that !@#$ storm has anything to do with NDSU" right?
  17. I'm sure the Sioux chants (that to this day still go on) won't be heard ringing through the tailgating lots and the Fargo Loaf on game day either?
  18. Jirik and Smith are both on record saying they wish they could have played in a UND/NDSU game. Those comments came unprovoked with any questioning or prodding from anyone about the rivalry. Are you saying that the players wouldn't have rather played UND over Incarnate Word, Weber State, Ferris State, Delaware State, Robert Morris, Prairie View A&M, etc?
  19. Very, very well put. My favorite part is still the one where money is not an issue. Not like they still have $1.5 million to pay on their football renovations done a decade ago or an absolutely huge shortfall lipstick-on-a-pig BSA renovation that is now causing them to re-use wooden bleachers from the BSA and cut suites from the original plan.
  20. Not the article I expected. Well written and balanced, very much enjoyed it. I see the mensa club, including their "independent" recruiting guru/NCAA violation, wasted no time in going after Schlossman on Twitter to defend their honor. No surprise, they continue to talk themselves in circles as Schlossman shoots down every excuse they have.
  21. I'm a big fan of Coach Knauf. The guy is smart and has a an excellent pedigree from his playing days at Wisconsin. He knows what system he wants to put in place and understands the growing pains that will come with it. I think (hope) that the end of last year was seeing that start to click.
  22. Wouldn't be surprised if that ends up that is what eventually is unofficially is used if "no nickname" is chosen. People will get tired of hearing/reading Green and White, North Dakota, etc. I do agree on your sentiments of it not making much sense or working in terms of logo or being something tangible.
  23. Does that crowd actually exist? My personal opinion is that I think it is more likely to be the "no nickname"/Fighting Sioux Forever crowd as Roughriders appears to be the clear favorite among actual nicknames remaining. Torpedo that and try to split the votes.
  24. I'd say the majority of G5, let alone FCS, can't actually afford FCOA but will still offer it in some form or another. If and when they pay it, it will just require higher subsidies from somewhere. The G5 is also staring down a big cut in their funding from a split in the P5/G5 as their TV revenue will be slashed when something happens.
