  1. Quickly? This thing couldn't drag out any longer if they tried (though I'm by no means tempting them to get it a whirl). What exactly is it that you want him to stick around and deal with? Once the new nickname is in place, there isn't a whole lot more that he will be able to do. He (nor the new president) will not change any minds that refused to be changed. Cowardly would be to leave in the middle of the process, which he very easily could have done and with how big of a joke it has become, most people wouldn't have blamed him.
  2. So he should stick around for another decade? Or what time frame do you judge "appropriate". By the time he retires, UND will have retired to the Fighting Sioux nickname and have a new one in place. Seems like the "mess" will have been cleaned up. Not sure what more you want. Him sticking around or leaving isn't going to affect the speed at which each individual person accepts reality.
  3. The new president will get to start with a clean slate and a new nickname in place. Seems like perfect timing to me.
  4. In 2011, the average age of a University President was apparently 61, meaning he's still older than the average college president by a fair amount since he's almost 70. Personally, I'm surprised he didn't retire a few years ago. At least he is seeing the nickname process through, quitting in the middle of it would be cowardly. Him retiring isn't some new revelation, nor is an unhappy faculty when they don't get everything they want. From most of what I see and hear, there is a lot more dissatisfaction with DiLorenzo than Kelley. I'm by no means a supporter of Kelley's, neutral at best on him actually, but it is time for new blood in the president's office and most people would agree. But you want him to stick around longer because "nickname".
  5. The guy is 70 years old, he isn't running anywhere.
  6. No real surprise given his age. Did some good things and some not so good things. Will be interesting to see the list of applicants to take over for him. Stepping into the disaster known as higher education in the state of North Dakota is a different beast. You have to be kidding right? The nickname mess pre-dates Kelley by quite a long time. Part of his job when he was hired was to clean it up and he has, though it might take some people a decade or so to actually see that. I wouldn't be surprised if him staying on until January instead of retiring before the school year wasn't partially to make sure the new nickname is properly implemented.
  7. Last I saw, Montana was a 14-15 point underdog at home against NDSU for the FCS kickoff game. You should be able to get more than 20 points.
  8. Does it come with a press pass?
  9. I don't think we really disagree, it just seems to be a very strange excuse/argument that gets used quite a bit and I've never understood it. I think its a mixed bag of what actually happened but it seems like the only thing a good amount of NDSU fans will admit that changed was the scholarship cuts. Whenever its trotted out, its unintentionally putting down what NDSU did in the 80's. If you're going to say that the sole reason NDSU came back to the pack was because scholarships were cut, then you're alternatively saying that the sole reason they were winning is because they had more scholarships. It wasn't the only thing that changed but the scholarship reduction argument is almost always the only reason that gets used when someone says NDSU won't stay on top forever. Note that most of this isn't directed at you, we agree quite a bit on this, just a fairly accurate generalization on what typically shows up here.
  10. I'm well aware of what happened but you did lay it out for others very nicely. That being said, pretty sure you just furthered my point (possibly intentionally). NDSU fans using the cut in scholarships as an excuse for their decline is basically just a roundabout way of admitting that they were only winning because they were outspending other schools and couldn't have the same success on a "level" playing field. I'll also note that they are doing more than fine at the FCS level on a "level" playing field.
  11. Never understood this excuse. Are you saying that NDSU couldn't have success at the D-2 level once everyone was playing with the same scholarships and were only able to win previously because they spent more money on football than other NCC schools? Not like the playing field was exactly leveled, or had NDSU stopped allocating dining center funds to the football program at that time?
  12. I mean why not Hrynwik? He'd shown about as much as Johnson did on the ice last season. And your examples are both two games that weren't going to end the season if the team didn't lose, not even close to an apples to apples comparison. The gopher comparison is pretty ridiculous when you see that Frazee had started 11 games that year, had a .910 save percentage and a 2.36 GAA. Johnson started one game this year and made it 54 seconds into the second period with his only other ice time being the first game of the year against Bemidji State 6 months before the Boston game.
  13. Wouldn't it be more accurate to use the whole NCAA tournament? Then you're looking at 17-11 (.607 winning percentage). Or look at it year by year: Two years where he had a "losing" record of 0-1. Two years where his record was ".500" at 1-1. Seven years where he had a "winning" record of 2-1 (6x) or 3-1 (1x).
  14. The fact that they are doing so well with Mauer playing like garbage, Santana suspended and their top prospects still to be called up makes it even more ridiculous. Fun ride so far, that's for sure!
  15. Agree a lot with this. I think Wentz had a lot of time in the pocket last year to go through his reads and likely will again this year with their very good O-Line. UND will have to blitz and force him to make quick decisions. Seemed like he got happy feet when there was pressure (which wasn't often) and he has no issue taking off, which he is more than capable of doing. When he does, he has a tendency to try for an extra yard or two and doesn't secure the ball very well instead of sliding or going out of bounds. All that being said, they are pretty nit-picky and he'll be one of the best QB's UND sees this year.
  16. You weren't, it wasn't on this board nor did it involve UND, didn't mean to make it look like I was directly my comments at you. I was referring to NDSU folks who will claim the preseason SOS was accurate but then not give a 35 point spread because they are preseason numbers. I agree with you somewhat on polls and rankings, but I wouldn't necessarily call them accurate even at midseason. Voters aren't always that informed and computer numbers can be skewed, but they are more or less a shot in the dark at the beginning of the year and slowly get closer to accurate as the season goes on.
  17. I do too but at least it gives you a third party source to get all the points you can. I won't disagree but I believe there was a lot of chest thumping going on about how Massey's preseason strength of schedule came out. If you're going to claim that as accurate, then no reason to not follow the same logic for the score prediction.
  18. Nothing out yet. Doubtful you'll see anything ahead of time either. However, Massey's ratings shows the "Most Likely" score at 38-3. No clue what his preseason stuff is based on, particularly for FCS. I'd show him that and take the 35 points all the way to the bank. FU fans are very vocal on how important computer rankings (Sagarin, Massey, etc) are when they are favorable to them, no reason they should trust them to help set a line. http://www.masseyratings.com/game.php?s0=279541&t0=North+Dakota&h=-1&s1=279541&t1=North+Dakota+State
  19. I assume this one? UND has also added a recruit to its 2015 signing class in high school senior Autonio Roland. Roland, a defensive end, is a preferred walk-on out of Grand Blanc, Mich.
  20. I wasn't sure either, there really was never any follow-up on it. Guessing that's because nothing was able to really be changed this year.
  21. USCHO had this: They also stated that this year wasn't a rule change year so I doubt it could have been changed since the coaching limit is actually written into the NCAA manual.
  22. The truth is strong in this statement.
  23. Calm down the hyperbole a little bit Dan. Most college FB fans? Yes, you are imagining. If you're right (hint: you aren't), I guess that means the ratings should be comparable to the major bowl games then, since those are games that most college FB watch? If the ratings from last year's FCS kickoff game are any indication, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Hopefully they don't spend the whole game talking about the P5 schools again.
  24. Did the NCAA approve having a 3rd assistant coach? The current limit is 2 (plus head coach). Even if they did, I don't think KG would move to a full-time coach.
  25. It hasn't (2031 maybe?), but the land is still owned by UND and leased out. I was referring to the land the REA was on, not the REA itself. Wording could have been more clear I guess.
