I'm focused on what's best for the University of North Dakota going forward, developing that stance from talks with people with UND and the athletic department. Others continue to be focused on a nickname that is not coming back officially or unofficially, end of story regardless of how much I disagree with it and think that it sucks. At this point, even though ridiculous and unfair, the reasons are irrelevant. And to homer's point, Standing Rock Tribal Council had the chance to reaffirm it and chose not to. That isn't UND's fault.

My reading of the tea leaves is that it will be Studsrud. I think Mollberg continues to push him significantly, especially considering coming off an injury, but he's not quite there yet.

Yet it managed to have the lowest score twice among remaining nicknames and was eventually cut by the committee selected to represent stakeholders. But keep telling yourself its only 4 people that see it for what it is. If the "no nickname" crowd could get over their obsession with an inanimate object, we wouldn't be having this discussion. No one is saying to forget about it and pretend it never existed, just take it off the pedestal and look at the big picture.

So basically UND needs to petition for the Big Sky to switch to FIBA rules?

I won't predict much about the game but Wyoming's offense won't score 30 points.

Kicking the can down the road even further so a new President has to deal with it would be the ultimate cherry on top of this train wreck. Since he was hired, I never felt Kelley's time at UND would end with anything other than him picking the new name before he retired. The timing of his last day only reinforces that idea.

We may finish the 2015-2016 seasons as North Dakota but I think the new nickname will be decided on before say...January 14, 2016...

Are you really upset that they aren't solely using a slogan that is 5+ years old? Normally the UND Athletics Marketing gets called out for not being creative, but now this is a new one. They continue to do the best they can with "North Dakota", which is obviously like working with one hand tied behind their back, but they aren't going to continue to use a single catch phrase as the main marketing slogan year after year. The yard signs continue to say "North Dakota" on them so I guess you can be happy about that.

Seems pretty short-sighted on their part considering they don't sell out their games. Why discourage people from giving money to their athletic department and spending money in St. Cloud? Just raise the price the UND tickets $20 each or so and call it good.

Amusing, but not surprising, to see it takes so little for you to go back on your convictions. Almost as funny as calling out people who's names have been on donor, Champions Club, season ticket lists, donating both time and money, before the mess started an will be long after its over. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the "no-nickname" crowd who is led by individuals who keep threatening to quit supporting the University and student-athletes if they don't get their way (which is a riot because the majority of those names wouldn't show up on any of the previously mentioned lists). But keep trying to peddle your wares, I'm sure you'll find a few buyers eventually. People who are ready to drop their support over a nickname are definitely the pro-UND crowd.

We get it. When you can't come up with an actual thought out response to direct a question, type the same thing you just did and pretend you didn't see it.

I'm anti-"no nickname" and my stance and views comes from having personal conversations with multiple people within the University and athletic department that deal with this on a daily basis and are continuously affected by it. Where do yours come from? For the record - I'm also anti-"University of North Dakota North Dakota", but only be cause its redundant and people keep thinking North Dakota is a nickname when its really the name of the institution.

You're picking and choosing on when things must be verbatim and what things can be read into is hilarious. I'd love to hear how somehow, someone from within UND complaining to the NCAA would not garner the same scrutiny that someone complaining from another school would. The NCAA listened to people within UND a decade ago, why wouldn't they this time around. And as continuously stated and explained, the sanctions are not the only reason for picking a new nickname, they are one of many spelled out many groups of people including student athletes and athletic administrators.

Not at all. But I'm not naïve enough to think that it is somehow unique to UND only and should be promoted as the main logo. It works nicely as a secondary logo.

I agree, Notre Dame has shown it can be done with an almost exact replica! Per people within the Athletic Administration, when student athletes are traveling, they really enjoy people asking them about Notre Dame when they see their travel gear.

It already was and it lost. The representatives that were chosen to represent whichever group or groups of stakeholder you fall into either did not agree with you or were outvoted by other representatives.

Which I acknowledged when I stated declining merchandise sales was one of the many reasons. I only pointed it out because it can be looked it as an indicator that people don't agree with your stance that it is a "unique, suitable option" because merchandise isn't flying off the shelf since it has become the only option.

Then they can continue to support North Dakota/UND since it has been the name of the institution since 1883, long before Flickertails, Sioux, Fighting Sioux or the Blackhawks, Geometric and Brien logo. There has always been and always will be just the interlocking logo or just the block words "North Dakota" available on apparel and merchandise. Go ahead and buy it. Among the many (already listed thousands of times) reasons, recent merchandise sales and continued to confusion with Notre Dame are among the reasons that an actual, individual identity for the athletic teams is easily the more logical choice.

At least I'm living there. If you could join us, it'd be great and a lot less tiring reading you ask the same questions over and over again, pretending that the answer and reasoning others are presenting don't exist.

The point of the those who claimed the NCAA could put UND on sanctions for not having nickname is now a matter of semantics for the reasoning because they confirmed that they could and will because fans continuing to use the Fighting Sioux name is a given and someone either at a different school or UND is going to complain. You seem to keep missing that point and keep bringing up an addendum that spoke to imagery at the REA. What other sanctions do you think they are referring to? You seem to be the only one who doesn't understand they will be the same thing. They make the rules and have been given full power and blessing to change them as they see fit.
