  1. Mike Jacobs doubling down with no substance to back his emotional take: Congrats to the twins. They finally won their Olympic gold and it's a great achievement of which they and others should be incredibly proud of. However continuing to tie that to UND bringing back WIH is nonsensical at this point. Would their results have been any different had they stayed at Minnesota for their final 3 years instead of coming to UND? They would still be the first Grand Forks natives to win gold medals. However they aren't the first (or last) former UND student athlete to win a gold medal.
  2. The funny thing is, their relative lack of success probably wouldn't be held against them as much if they wouldn't act like they were a national power or trot out the Olympians excuse every time. If you had all that supposed talent, including two of the best players in the world, then what gives?
  3. Pretty sure I've seen them in the past but it's been quite a few years.
  4. The cost for season tickets was $60. Champions Club members got in free, as they do for a handful of sports, so you would likely have to remove that "perk" to start to move the needle. Just to get to $500,000 in revenue, you would need to sell 8,300 season tickets. More telling is WIH total attendance for it's entire final season was just over 15,000. So in short, not even close.
  5. Seales looked like he had an extra bounce in his step last night. Passing looked crisp, sharp and quick, great ball movement. Good win.
  6. Interesting when a hometown paper actually goes with writing an article about a coach getting a DUI instead of ignoring it and writing a fluff piece about him a week later instead.
  7. Here are the sold ticket prices through Stubhub for the Vegas game so far. Not sure what to make of the two highest ones but there is definitely a market around that $500-600 mark, which is actually pushing $750/ticket after fees are added in. Section Prices Row Qty Delivery method Sale date 103 $969.00 S 2 02/20/2018 105 $600.00 T 7 02/20/2018 111 $850.00 S 2 02/09/2018 115 $300.00 P 2 01/06/2018 115 $300.00 P 2 01/06/2018 111 $600.00 V 2 12/08/2017 108 $575.00 J 2 10/22/2017 105 $500.00 U 2 10/15/2017 105 $600.00 T 3 08/11/2017 113 $570.00 F 2 08/05/2017 113 $550.00 F 2 07/05/2017 105 $500.00 T 6 05/19/2017
  8. There's a reason some of the ribbon board/scoreboards updates that were planned were instead postponed.
  9. They aren't because everyone decided long ago that it was going to be UND/Mark Kennedy. But they didn't put up the resistance that people claimed they would. I think we're all essentially on the same page. The REA didn't come up with the idea but they didn't have much of a reason to be opposed to it and there were benefits in it happening for them. There are upsides to unfortunate decisions but numbers are what they are. Correct. The agreement between UND and the REA is based on ticket sales. If UND is using less resources at the REA and giving them some significant weekends availability to make more revenue, than the conversation about UND keeping a larger portion of the ticket sales becomes much more palatable for both sides.
  10. The bigger dispute was that the REA wanted the vacated space for their own use, while UND rightfully insisted they needed to retain it to upgrade a women's sport facilities (soccer) to prevent Title IX issues.
  11. Note exactly going out on a limb on this but: Kennedy will go down for his interview and within a few days put out a release that states "after careful consideration, he has decided to withdraw his name as the job isn't a good fit and he wants to continue with the momentum and great things that are happening at UND".
  12. Build on it. Could have easily let that one get away.
  13. If they asked him to apply, which appears to be the case, I don't think they'd hold leaving UND after 20 months again him.
  14. Geno should shoot 30 times a game. Not sure what his hesitation is this year, doesn't seem to have the killer instinct he showed in the past.
  15. Looks like having an actual identity to get behind and market can be beneficial. Who would have thought? UND named Learfield's 2017-18 Property of the Year
  16. He moved quicker than Kelley did on the nickname, no wonder he's in high demand.
  17. UCF publicly releasing the names of their 8 semi-finalists and Kennedy having to put out an announcement is also a great example of why ND took a positive step and changed the law so that only the top 3 finalists have to be publicly released for certain positions.
  18. There's a big difference between him actively looking for a new a job and a search firm reaching out, asking him to apply and him accepting that invitation. It sounds like it was the latter and I think he'd be crazy not too look at it if approached. The outgoing president, who had been there 26 years, was making over $500K/year. The fact that he made the top 8 says a lot about what the perception of him is. Kennedy had no choice but to send out an announcement as the 8 semifinalists were publicly announced today and it looks like he has pretty decent company on the finalist list:
  19. Well, she winked at someone, not sure I blame her either.
  20. Was not an ideal move: But the explanation might be worse. That move might work against half of the 8 teams in the tournament but Canada is definitely not one of them.
  21. Here's all the Olympic connections listed by UND: Philip K. Johnson, team doctor, USA Hockey Jason Switzer, athletic trainer, U.S. Ski and Snowboarding Team Joe Polo, athlete, USA Curling Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson, athlete, USA Hockey Monique Lamoureux-Morando, athlete, USA Hockey Andy Parr, production engineer, NBC Sports Ludvig Hoff, athlete, Norway Men’s Hockey Chay Genoway , athlete, Hockey Canada Michelle Karvinen, athlete, Finland Women’s Hockey Emma Nuutinen, athlete, Finland Women’s Hockey Susana Tapani, Finland Women’s Hockey Johanna Fallman, Sweden Women’s Hockey
  22. There was that one time they tied for 2nd in the WCHA though!
