Fans: He's only playing because of his last name! Also fans: Why are all these kids/grandkids of former UND players going to other schools?!
-
Exactly. Just as easily as they could have missed it a few years back when they finished in the exact same spot in the Pairwise (#14) and still needed a late Wisconsin rally to get in.

The bar side has remained open (with the new menu), though I believe they will be closed for a couple days this week while they do some construction. Not sure on the time frame for the Red Pepper side to open.

The lack of amenities and updates needed are part of the problem. If they would find a way to get some of that done, I think it could become a real draw for that type of thing. Kind of a chicken/egg thing: They have trouble getting some acts, so no money/reason to fund upgrades. Acts don't want to come because of the lack of amenities. I hope they decide to invest in it, it remains a great venue.

You throw out a lot of numbers with nothing to back them up even though people have asked. Can you provide anything that proves the figures you're throwing around?- 485 replies

Here is my understanding: UND had cut back significantly if not completely (in certain areas) on sending recruiters to meet with guidance counselors and students in their schools in Minnesota, specifically the MSP area. I think if you look at the number of Minnesota students over the year, you'll see a correlation with dropping enrollment from there. That strategy on that has changed in the last 18 months. Unless of course he got a job offer at one of the biggest Universities in the nation who offered to double or triple his pay (plus add in the no state income tax and much nicer weather).- 485 replies

Supposedly the catch was the way they fired her. Originally said it was because of budget issues then said it was also performance based but they didn't want to hurt her feelings or reputation since the decision was already made so they didn't bring that up initially. Both were likely true. You are correct, Brad has written at least a couple times detailing her decline in performance and other issues. https://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=99140 http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/opinion/columns/3870287-local-view-miller-didnt-earn-new-contract-umd

There is usually a watch party at Torrey Pines Pub (6374 W Lake Mead Blvd) but I'm not sure if they are doing it tomorrow or not. While I agree on which choice of sportsbooks, I'm not sure it would be the best option to watch tomorrow given that its open weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament and they are all typically bonkers.

What crony did he give money to? Care to elaborate on that pretty damning claim? Where did he even get cronies that quick or is he funneling money out of state? Really want to hear more on this accusation. I'll counter and say the general public has been pretty critical of a lot of his moves and frankly after a decade of plenty of decisions being made with the goal of trying to toe the line and done in a way that tried to please everyone instead of solving a problem, it is a welcome change. You don't have to agree with everything, but sometimes people in charge have to make unpopular decisions.- 485 replies

I tend to agree with you. REA to Xcel Energy Center: 325 miles. Estimated time: 4 hours, 43 minutes (assuming good traffic). REA to Target Center: 314 miles. Estimated time: 4 hours, 33 minutes (assuming good traffic). REA to Denny Sanford Premier Center: 316 miles. Estimated time: 4 hours, 28 minutes (there is no traffic).

I mean, outside of putting a bid in which was organized and backed by the REA, they really haven't done anything to "deserve it", particularly in the ice. However they aren't the first to have it work in their favor and they won't be the last but it doesn't change that it had an effect on the top overall seed which was the larger part of his overall point. But let's continue to give him what he wants (clicks and exposure) and overreact to any comment that might be construed as negative.
-
Either way, UND fans would find a way be offended.
-
It had nothing to with deserving and the issue isn't UND playing in Sioux Falls, the issue is the #1 seed having to travel so far because of it. Not sure if people are looking to be offended or just argue dumb points. Penn State isn't relevant to the point, they aren't causing an issue for the top overall seed, which the committee has always done the best job of accommodating they can. Pointing out that might be an issue this year and why is not that big of deal. Until more places bid, it is what it is.
-
But Penn State's ranking isn't causing problems like UND's is. UND making it as a 4 seed causes the #1 overall seed to have to travel halfway across the country instead of to the closest regional. Not UND's fault, it is what it is and pointing it out isn't a slight. As someone else stated, if the Midwest regional wasn't in Pennsylvania, it wouldn't be as big of an issue.
-
Not really. PSU fans don't show up in the numbers UND fans do, which was a big part of his point on what makes it a de facto home game. I don't think there's any issue with the points he made. The NCAA has laid out the rules and no one is blaming UND for having a large fan base that travels. Nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious that a higher seed (likely a #1) could have a the possibility of playing in a hostile environment.

Keenum is going to get at least $36 million/2 year from Denver and Bradford is getting $20 million ($15 guaranteed)/1 year with a 1 year team option for $20 million from Arizona. Getting both back was never a reality, both want a chance to be a starter and earn longer contracts and looks like they'll both get their shot. Teddy probably is as well with the Jets.

If that's the route he's taking, the numbers aren't backing that up either. Neither sport showed guarantee expenses in the most recent numbers. The previous year, WIH paid out $2,400 and Soccer paid out $1,068. I'd be curious what teams UND would have paid to play here. The D1 OOC home games this year were WIU, Omaha, USD and SDSU. UND went to WIU, USD and Omaha the previous season and SDSU this year, which means they all look like home/home agreements. Having a hard time buying that criticism.
-
Soccer has to pay people to play here? You mean give out scholarships? Based on last year's numbers, women's hockey had to pay players over twice as much as soccer to play here. Not only were those girls not playing for free, their full rides cost significantly more being around half of them were at an international tuition rate. Soccer gave split 15.7 scholarships to 24 student athletes costin $233K. WIH split 18.5 between 23 student athletes, costing $480K. Based on history, the only #4 seed UND would have gotten is in the conference tournament, and that's assuming they could finally get past Duluth.
-
Damn Minnesota rule.
-
Can someone just ask Brad why UND had two of the best players in the world and after that, all these Olympians and talent, yet only had a whopping 2 NCAA tournament appearances and zero NCAA tournament wins? The team being cut sure gives a lot of convenient cover for what appears to be severe underperformance for all the supposed talent that was on the team.

We're really reaching for things to complain about if people are complaining about Jody's job performance. They must have hated all the destination games and regionals as well, since the REA is the driver for those happening.
