Excellent observation. Wayne Nelson's comments about institutional fit in today's herald chat are illustrative of the issue. You will never hear a Forum writer, argus leader writer or mcfeeley etc discuss institutional peers and fit. Whether they are obtuse or it's intentional the conversation doesn't seem to be changing.

IMHO, If I am the MVC I look very hard at DePaul long before I look at any current Summit schools. The Big East is going to the pits and Depaul's geography and sports mix works.

The NCHC is not applicable the Summit situation. A more apt comparison to the NCHC is when most of the original WAC members left and started the Mountain West.

NDSU should have been in the Big Sky in 2003. Fullerton or the Presidents were too focused on Geography and not focused on institutions as they apparently are now. No one can tell me with a straight face the UNC has more to offer a FCS conference than NDSU. I dont begrudge NDSU fans one bit for their apparent shift in stance from then. If you recall the Gateway Football conference was a "no shot in hell" kind of situation in 2003 and for a time the Sky appeared to be the only legit long term option. Its all about timing and whose ox is being gored. NDSU is happy with their situation and so is UND. This will all play out one way or another over the next few years. I just hope that pettiness doesnt drive decisions in GF or Fargo.

As long as The Summit doesn't lose its auto-bid, why would they leave? They are in the conference they want for football and the road to NCAA tourneys in basketball and baseball just got easier and cheaper. In addition, how do you think that first TeamMakers meeting would go when Gene mentions looking at the Big Sky? Probably as well as Sioux Boosters would go if Faison suggested MVFC/Summit. All that said, I'd welcome NDSU into the Big Sky with open arms.

There is an introduction meeting tonight about the "new" youth hockey model in GF starting in 2012 (730 @ RRHS). I just moved to GF, so I have no thoughts on the current system. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I dont think anyone "announced it," this all happened behind closed doors and then someone called the Herald, then the Herald sought reactions from Peter Johnson and Beer Grandma. Kelly's concern with Alcohol is not isolated. NDSU's alcohol task force (I believe Gene Taylor is in charge) has their fingers in everything down there, including private business that is off campus. Its not going away. This is a HUGE deal to all Universities and their respective leadership across the country.

So, who put this out there to the Herald? Was it Beer Grandma herself? REA? I highly doubt UND announced it. Pioneer Press has picked up the story.

It is my hope and assumption that we will see a new big marketing effort and a revamped in-game experience to coincide with the BigSky next year. The current in-game stuff at Alerus is amateurish at best.

At least this quote is encouraging. I'll be the first to say it (though it won't happen). The single most logical FCS institution (and its not even close) for the BigSky to make a big run at for its 12th member is...........................North Dakota State University.
