For the record:

2 things are true: 1. UND does not historically play well in the Frozen Faceoff. 2. The Penrose Cup champ historically does not play well in this tournament. UND is the only Penrose Cup champ to win it and that was at REA so that’s not the same. Seems like something has to give on either of these things on Friday.

I feel like there is. You just see it a lot on social media. More so than there has been in previous years IMO. Just talking to people, I don’t know too many people (if any) who feel great about the direction of the program right now. Even if they aren’t necessarily in favor of firing the coach right now, people know something is not right.

Yes. He’s definitely junior. He had to redshirt the 2022-23 season. This is his 4th year at UND, but his third season of eligibility. So not a senior.

Also of note: None of the big time high NHL draft pick types have committed anywhere yet and Schlossman suggested they may not until after their seasons end later this spring so they can visit schools. So something to watch in March/April.

I can assure you they are not harassing him. I used to sit in those seats as a student. We’d talk to the UND players who were in the penalty box all the time.

Unlikely. Probably depends if an ECAC team is in the top 14. Currently Qpac is 14 and they are the highest ECAC team. Cut line could end up being 13 this year. Then there’s the threat of autobids.

Well back then, I’d say it helped that we immediately named Berry coach and him and Jackson immediately started calling recruits/incoming players. Those two already had relationships with these players so it’s not like they had to start from scratch. But if there’s a longer waiting period to name a new head coach should Berry not return we could be in trouble if recruits are loyal to Berry instead of the school.
