I hate the gophers just as much as the next person and love to see them lose but why are we talking about the gophers choking? Shouldn't we be talking about winning the WCHA and moving on? Everyone is making it seem like UAA is an awful team, we went 2-0-1 against them. I think UAA is a team to look out for in the final five, they are some big boys and they can clog up some lanes and cause trouble for most teams. People can say that we are chokers to, I mean we did get bounced 4 straight years out of the Frozen Four. I know this is a forum so anything goes but when we discuss this it makes us look arrogant, especially after we just won a record 15th WCHA championship and all we can talk about is the gophers failures? Every team goes threw bad years and it just so happens to be the gophers time, hopefully they will right the ship because the program is too rich in history and too good to let fall into the bottom tier of the league.

"a drunk NDSU baseball player is smarter than a "drunk" UND hockey player". hmmmmm thats a pretty stupid argument if i've ever heard one. like i said before its one thing to put yourself into danger but its another thing when you start involving other people and in his case he is lucky no one else got hurt! the thing is is the NDSU player got arrested and cited for dui, so of course that is going to be all over the news but its hard for the news to report on kristo when there was no police report. im sure the hospital here in gf know if kristo had been drinking or not but they can't release information because of certain laws. so you cant cry cover up by the media in gf.

Who says access to the internet needs to be provided to people who can't afford it? The internet is a luxury, just like cable TV is. Midcontinent is a business and I don't think they should be handing out cheap internet to people. Come to think of it I believe dial up internet is still around and that costs less then 20 bucks a month, maybe people can afford that but as of right now the library here in town is fully capable of providing access to the internet to people who need it. I am not about to pay more money for something I will probably never use and if you are going to say "well, think about the people who can't afford internet", if they can't afford internet they sure as hell won't be able to afford a tax increase. There is no need to raise taxes to pay for something we already have. The thing that bothers me the most about this topic is the city of Grand Forks will do nothing with the building after it is vacated, it will sit there and cost the city more money.. I would like to read those studies you say that the newspaper industry isn't dying because with every one article that you find that says it isn't dying I will be able to find 10 that say it is. I bet if you go and ask Mike Jacobs(GF Herald Editor) he will tell you the exact same thing. Ad revenue is the main thing that supports a paper and the fact is everything is going away from print and is either going to television or internet. With websites like Craigslist people can advertise for free which takes away a lot of revenue from the classified section in the paper. Why would I want to pay for something when I can get it a lot quicker and for free.

I don't think people in Grand Forks are against having a library I just think they are upset that they really didn't have a plan in place before they brought this up. Yes, GF needs a new one but what are they going to do with the old building? This is the same issue people had with the new wellness center being built. GF already has a wonderful place in Center Court Fitness and the UND wellness center along with other fitness places in town. With the way the economy is it is hard to justify raising taxes on things like this when GF already has them and when there is no plan in place. Also, newspapers are dying. After working in the tv/newspaper business for awhile now you can see that the newspaper industry is going down faster than the titanic. The GF Herald just laid off a bunch of people. With the advancement of the internet you can read the paper online and for most papers its free, so why pay to get the paper when you can read it online for free. Not only is it free but it can get to the reader faster than waiting for it the next day. Just because some subscriptions are up that doesn't cover the fact that a lot are either merging together or completely shutting the doors.

From what I gathered talking to Greg and the three investors I know they all said it never fully recovered from the flood. The main thing Greg said was when the flood washed away the cooking equipment and it had to be replaced by new stuff the food never tasted the same (I'm not a cook so I don't know how old cooking equipment works and how it can make food taste better) but that was the main reason. The other reason was that when out of town people came to town they do their shopping on the south end of town and don't know how good Whitey's is and they arn't going to travel all the way downtown just to see if there is a restaurant they might like, that is why you are seeing more restaurants going up on the south end of town. Yes, when Greg ran it it always made a little bit of money but not like the Blue Moose, Applebee's or Mikes. The thing that really sank it was the way Dave ran it, from his belittling of employees to straight up lies. There is only room in town for ONE extravagant restaurant and that is Saunders. Dave thought he could put up a fight against Saunders and he lost big time (not only did he lose but the people who put their trust in him lost too). I've come to see that most people (not on here) don't really care for name recognition or history when it comes to a restaurant and that's kind of sad but it is the way it sort of works these days.

If you ask Greg Stennes about how business was before he sold it he will tell you that it was never the greatest. Even when they had there slot machine promotion (where you played the slot machine and whatever year it landed on you payed that price from that time) business was never that great. The sad thing is I think it took something like this to get people to remember Whitey's and maybe the new investors will reep the benefits of Dave Norman's excuse's. I feel bad for the people who bought into Dave's crap, I'm just glad their names won't be reveled because they never wanted to see Whitey's end up like this.

The whole dinner and a movie isn't what it used to be, with prices for dinner and movies going up its hard to go to both let alone either one. That was there plan was to stop payment on everything until Dave was out and with Dave being the liar he is it was hard. I know three of the investors personally and they are really sad that it had to come down to this but hopefully they regroup and get someone who isn't a totally idiot to run the place.

Sorry to inform you gfhockey but the people who bought it were good people and invested a lot of money into Dave's BS and they pretty much stopped funding it until they could get Dave out. The thing many people don't know is that Dave was never the actual owner, only a manager. One of the MAJOR investers was a guy from the cities who has bailed out Denny Hecker and when he found out the way Dave was running it he pulled out of it and left the rest of the investors high and dry. Another thing was that Whiteys was going downhill for a long time, it has never been the same since the flood. What is interesting is the people who say they will miss it but how often did they go down there? I'm not blaming the people of EGF or GF but it is just in a bad location with everything moving away from the river, no one wants to travel to downtown GF/EGF just to eat anymore.

steelers were the better team? hmmmmm....beg to differ my friend. the steelers defense at times looked slow anc confused, where was polomalu or harrison? big ben was way out of sink in the 2nd half it was unreal....over throwing balls to players "that cant be over thrown", under thrown balls...the list could go on and on....speaking of that, where was hines ward? you can have your opinion that the steelers were the better team but in reality we all know the better team won! just think how deep the pack will be next year (if there is an nfl) when their number one starters come back! their 2nd and 3rd stringers will be super bowl experienced!

i know you and AZSIOUX have the most knowledge about sioux jerseys but i was wondering if either of you guys could help me out on this one? i currently have a calender that shows President Reagan at the University on October 17th, 1986 holding up a sioux hockey jersey with the blackhawk logo in the middle with north on top and dakota on the bottom. has this jersey ever been worn on the ice before?

i was definitely getting a little nervous after woodson and driver went down and jordy nelson kept dropping balls but the cool thing about rodgers was that he never got pissed he just kept going back to nelson and eventually it worked out. the steelers just looked out of it from the beginning, i think they thought that they were going to go into the game and steam roll this packers squad. big ben just looked fat and out of shape as did james harrison. mendenhall and randle el looked like the only two players who gave it their all. all and all great game and the better team won!
