They will always be the Sioux in your heart but it is time to move on. The nickname will hinder us from moving forward (as it already has), I simply do not want to be playing the South Dakota School of Mines (NAIA?) on Saturdays and I diffenetly do not want to be moved down the list in the Hockey world (and play cake eating teams). For UND to become viable in the D1 world we have to let the nickname go. I understand the logo means a lot to people but you have to remember this is a fight between the NCAA and the ONE Sioux Tribe who is as stubborn as a mule. The NCAA has laid out the rules for everyone to read and we have to follow them. I understand there are other schools that are D1 that might play us but I don't want to play the Central Michigans or Furman Colleges of the world, I want to play the big boys (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa) because when you play the big dogs you get better television/national coverage. We have already seen what schools will do (Iowa and Wisconsin not playing us) and what the NCAA will do (our UND Women's hockey team can't play at the REA for the NCAA tourny), so it is time to move on.

No, they wont be but I do know that Fridays game will be on the NBC sports network.

i don't understand why people gave him such a hard time (ya i know people thought he wasn't a big burly defenseman like greene or commodore), he was/is a good hockey player and it would've been nice to see him stick around another year.

just picked up a nike dazzle for 200 bucks and now i want some lettering (mike prpich) done on it. does anyone know if the ralph does nike jerseys anymore?

any idea where the WCHA tourny will be held after 2013?

not to take anything away from what you have done (kudos to you for coaching and reffing, I have done both and it takes certain people to do it) but at what level did you peak out at? every level of the sport is different and it matters what level you are reffing/coaching at because you are coaching/reffing different aspects of the game. when you are at the top of your level (NHL players/NHL refs), you (as a player) should have a firm grasp on how the sport works and operates. each player knows they can do harm to anyone on a given night and if they can get away with cheap shots and stuff every night they will keep doing it and as long as they allow that to happen there will be fighting in hockey (its part of its culture whether you like it or not). its just like in baseball, if a pitcher hits one of the opposing teams star players you can be damn sure that guys star player will get beaned there next at bat. i don't have any idea on how to solve the fighting issue in hockey (i believe it will always be around) but you can start handing out stricter penalties to both parties involved (the player that injures another player can't play until the other guy is healthy enough to play), heck even make the refs accountable too! no one has the answers to this but Gary Bettmen, the owners and the players union.

DaveK, you can't even come up with a valid argument. All you do is answer a question with another question! And then when the argument does not go your way you revert to calling peoples opinions (or people) stupid. Shows how intelligent you really are! I do watch hockey and I watch a lot of it, I think having enforcers police themselves has cut down on A LOT of cheap plays. Like I have said before, REFS DO NOTHING TO PROTECT PLAYERS. How many times have I seen a REPEAT OFFENDER cheap shot another player and get away with it (Matt Cooke, Milan Lucic,) or how many times have I seen players run over goalies with no care whatsoever? Remember this is my opinion and I am entitled to it and there is nothing you can say that will change it, you have your opinion (thats fine) and I don't plan on changing you mind. Remember this though, FIGHTING WILL ALWAYS BE APART OF THE NHL!

do you not watch hockey dave? the refs never enforce anything in games (besides ticky tack calls) and that is why you end up having players police themselves. if the refs would've policed the Sioux/Gopher game a few weeks ago ben blood would probably be wearing his A still and three gophers would have gotten 5 min major and kicked out of the game, but that was not the case. we get it dave, you dont like fighting. here is the thing though,it is never leaving hockey, there will always be enforcers protecting star players whether you like it or not. if you don't like fighting in hockey go watch peanuts or pee wees (where they are not allowed to even touch other players).

i dont sell, i only do trades. i have the fighting sioux pucks with the 5,6 and 7 stars on them. i also have a geometric style puck with no stars on it. let me know what you have to offer and i will think about it

how is it showing disrespect for the game when it has gone on for so many years? who are they disrespecting? if you watch hockey you know that not all cheap shots are called and each player is going to press their luck to as far as they can get away with it. i don't tune into a hockey game expecting to see a fight but when i see cheap play going on, i expect to see that player having to answer to that teams enforcer! my question to you though is, how many checking from behinds do you see in the NHL vs College hockey? or how many broken necks because of it?

No, fighting is a must have in hockey (in certain situations). Fighting lets players know that "if they FU&* with my teammate" they will have to answer to me. The refs do nothing to protect players from cheap play, if the Buffalo Sabers would've faught the guy that ran Ryan Miller over it would never happen to Miller again without that player knowing there would be hell to pay. If I was a player and knew that all I would get was a two or a five min penalty for cheap shoting another player, I would take that over dropping the gloves with ol' Mike but if I had to answer to Mike for all my cheap shots I would diffenetly think twice about it.

Of course Sioux fans have moved on, we have shown that we can survive without them. When we go to National Tournaments (aka the Frozen Four) us Sioux Fans don't wear stuff that says "Bison Suck" because they are irrelevant to us. We have won 7 D1 titles LONG before they even sniffed D1 (if you are trying to say they can't be compared, I would say you might be right but the Frozen Four gets more coverage than that FCS title game did).
