  1. Talk to any hockey fan in Canada, Goon. Winning the WJC ranks a close second to winning the Olympics in the eyes of Team Canada. For the last WJC in Grand Forks, I remember reading somewhere that any time the Canadian team was on TV, somewhere in the neighborhood of 80% of the TVs turned on in Canada were tuned into that game. I challenge you to find 80 TV's TOTAL in America outside of Grand Forks that were watching the same thing. Same thing for the 2004 World Cup of Hockey...the rest of the world rallies around their countries and as I walk to the Excel Energy Center for the big semi-final game between USA and Finland, several people on the street commented about how they didn't know the Wild had started already! Apparently hockey is, was, and always will be a niche sport in the United States. Sad, but true.
  2. It was Jack. Nice to see him chuckling about the penalty in the box, too, just after he put his team down two men.
  3. If my mite grew up and played hockey in squirts, bantams, or high school and pulled a stunt like that, I wouldn't need the school board, coach, state representative, or the pope to bench his a** because I would do it myself. In the kid's defense, what DON'T kids pick up in this Stuart Scott "boo-ya" world of ESPN highlights. It's style over substance and kids get a daily dose of it on Sportscenter.
  4. When I first saw this thread title, my immediate reaction was "Wow...St Cloud's going to try to field a D-1 hockey team?".
  5. Long time caller, first time listener! I was born in Dickinson in 1970 and was raised on a ranch about 20 miles north of Belfield. My parents still run the ranch (celebrated 100 years this past July) and my sister and her husband are in the process of taking it over in a year or two (I have another sister who attended NDSU and now lives in Plymouth, MN). Moved to GF and attended college from 1988-1992 and have been in Minneapolis/St Paul ever since graduating.
  6. You know, as a former fraternity member myself, I always roll my eyes because it seems like everytime something like this pops up, no one can identify a specific incident, but it almost ALWAYS involves a "fraternity guy" or "frat boys" doing it. For crying out loud, back up some statements like that that didn't involve an incident in about 1975. That act grows old. If Kappa Sigs in my day were guilty of anything, it was portraying the Romans in a poor light (toga parties) or perhaps dressing in poor taste representing farmers (haybale hoedown).
  7. Nice to see a mix of old and new coming together for this venture. I thought this was an interesting article and thought I would share it... Syracuse SkyChiefs Change Name
  8. I always find it amusing how liberals are so quick to jump to the defense of the downtrodden and preach peace, love, respect, and diversity, then you mention the word "Republican" or "George Bush" and all of a sudden, those "values" are quickly forgotten. I can't wait until the Dems take office in January, either, mikeypat15. I'm eagerly awaiting the Pelosi proposal for the new direction in Iraq and the Democratic plan for an exit strategy.
  9. Miami football player murdered outside his apartment = typical renegade Hurricanes. BU hockey players injured outside bar = find the culprits and bring them to justice. Hmnnnn...
  10. I'm not implying anything, but I'm just sayin'...I don't recall an incident like this before Phil Kessel got to Boston...hmnnnn...
  11. Thanks, Sioux-cia. I also e-mailed Bigchief to see if he could help. He was going to ask around as well.
  12. Hey SiouxSports.com hockey players, I was browsing thru my Pizza Factory jerseys in preparation for the upcoming broomball season and it turns out that I am missing one of the green jerseys. I am missing the green #8. Can anyone help me find it? I enjoy helping out the cause but can't afford to lose too many jerseys as my own team needs them. Thanks for the help!
  13. My 5 year old's Christmas wish was a Mike Commodore bobblehead. Thanks, THETRIOUXGRINCH.
  14. I signed up for two, but haven't been contacted yet. They're probably assuming I'll be there sometime this season to pick them up.
  15. Sooooo...I still haven't heard anything about the Mike Commodore bobble-heads. Does anyone have the latest scoop?
  16. Shawn-O, don't tell me you're going to go "Urban Meyer" on us and use Kentucky to bolster your strength of schedule argument. I agree that conference championship should be the determining factor in who gets to play Ohio State, but watching Urban cry, beg, and plead to get into the title game is excruciating. Also, big slap upside the head to Kirk Herbstreit and Brent Musburger, who during last week's USC/Notre Dame game pleaded time and time again AGAINST having a Michigan rematch with Ohio State, then promptly turned right around suggested several times over that Notre Dame had done enough to warrant a rematch with Michigan in the Rose Bowl? Based on losing by 20 to USC they've shown enough to deserve a rematch with a team who beat them by 26 earlier in the year? While at the same time saying that Michigan had its shot at Ohio State and dropped the ball? Oh, nevermind, Brent and Kirk, I forgot that ABC needs Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl because they haven't been there since 1925. Nice arguments, guys!

  18. You know, this is what bugs me about society today. We jump down the throats of Mel Gibson as an anti-Semite, we want to lynch Kramer ASAP (he's an idiot anyways and I'm not defending his N-word tirade at all), but last night, I watched as an African-American activist on Hannity and Colmes left the show with a parting shot at Sean Hannity calling him a "rich white boy." If Sean Hannity had called the guest a "poor black boy," he'd have been fired about 15 minutes after the show ended. It's a giant double-standard and it's getting old.
  19. That's IT! This team clearly needs more support from fans at Joe Senser's. Runninwiththedogs, 01grad, 7>5, Smoggy...who's with me at Senser's tonite? I'll even have little MafiaMan with me!
  20. I'm aware of that definition of "orangemen," but SU was not nicknamed the Orangemen for that reason. Nike was the driving force behind the change to "Orange."
  21. The Syracuse Orangemen were named because they wore orange, much like their big-rival the St John's Redmen who wore red. Neither connotation had anything to do with anything other than the color of football or basketball uniform the players wore. St John's changed their name a long long time ago DESPITE the fact that it had absolutely no direct relation to Native American imagery. Syracuse changed their name to "Orange" to better recognize all SU athletes, not just men.
  22. SiouxMD, did you catch how they distinguished themselves from UMass-Lowell by making their name "RiverHawks" one word as opposed to "River Hawks" two words like UML? Brilliant!
  23. NSU New Nickname I love the nickname nominees: RiverHawks War Eagles (sounds a bit too hostile and abusive, doesn't it?) Wolves (yea, you and 10,000 high schools around the USA) Thunderhawks (as opposed to what, Lightninghawks? And why no capital "H" for this one, but one for RiverHawks? I'm confused) Thunderbirds (see above, particularly with small "b" in birds) And my personal favorite, the Riverwolves (heck, why not the Landfish? Seascorpions? Watercows?)
  24. When I was in high school in good old Belfield, during lunchtime, one of my classmates started laughing at something so hard his lunch flew out of his nose. That was the biggest clam I've ever seen in clam chowder soup. Wow.
