  1. I still think it's this dude in the front...
  2. Can't be Maurice (in the middle) though...he passed away 3 1/2 years ago.
  3. You're right...he was a freshman in 2002-2003...I was thinking he was a freshman in 2001-2002. My hockey mind wasn't in its right frame for that time span during the dark ages known as "the years the Gophers were called 'national champions'".
  4. Um...Vanek didn't win the Frozen Four MOP UNTIL his sophomore year...Grant Potulny was the 2002 Frozen Four MOP.
  5. Why is the lead singer of 1970's super-group Boston holding the Stanley Cup?
  6. Where do some people get the idea that Phil Jackson has a soft spot anywhere in his body for North Dakota?
  7. Anyone who was there will tell you the most unbelievable comeback was the 1989, 1990, or 1991 comeback (forgive my old memory for forgetting the year) from a 5-0 third period deficit against Northern Michigan. The Sioux scored 5 third period goals to tie it up and force OT where both teams' goalies stoned breakaway chances, leaving the game all tied up. NMU skated off like they'd just lost the national championship...the Sioux and the fans that were left celebrated like mad. I'd bet 1/3 of the arena packed it in after the 5th Wildcat goal and by the time it was 5-4, fans were scrambling to get back into the building. It was unbelievable.
  8. Fox 9 news just released a picture of three Gopher hockey recruits whooping it up at Blarney's this past weekend...
  9. I'm going with my gut feeling telling me that Toews will be in Far, er, Grand Forks, next season. Giggity giggity...alright!
  10. I must've been in line buying nachos.
  11. I was at that game but don't recall that incident in particular. Details, please.
  12. I knew you'd come around. I see you're practically my neighbor...whaddya say we meet up with Greyeagle, sagard, and siouxguyinstpaul at Blarney's at about 6:00 tonite for Happy Hour and discuss the possible sanctions with the underage Gopher hockey players themselves?
  13. Again, you're talking about an outright ban on the Minnesota Gopher hockey program for an entire post-season of play for these transgressions? At the same time, felons and felons-to-be take the football field every Saturday for storied schools like Virginia Tech, Marshall, Miami, and Florida State and the NCAA turns a blind eye. Should the Hokies be banned from post-season play because their QB was arrested for driving after suspension and for brandishing a weapon on someone? I know the NCAA does some obviously stupid things, but if this had happened in Grand Forks, you'd have sagard's opinion on the matter. Don't let your hatred of Minnesota cloud your mind. I'm no Gopher fan, but the penalty in this matter is likely to be greater for Blarneys' owner than it is for the players or the program.
  14. Check the last major Supreme Court ruling on 'eminent domain' and see what justices were on the what side of that issue.
  15. I heard he owned a pair of Spandex shorts in the late 1980's, too.
  16. Hi, I'm earth...have we met? The Gophers don't 'host' the WCHA Final Five, the event is put out for bid every few years. The Xcel Energy Center, while being a somewhat unbiased host, isn't affiliated with the Gophers. Ditto for the Frozen Four. You'd ban U of small m from hosting a regional because a couple of players got busted for underage drinking? Wow. What would you do to the Florida State Criminole football team or Cincinnati basketball?
  17. I used to see her at The Flamingo all the time.
  18. Nick Coleman sure cares an awful lot about an issue in another state that's about a 4 hour drive from his home here in the Twin Cities. In turn, I wonder how he feels about the University of Iowa 'pink' visitor dressing room...or Barry Alvarez stepping down at Wisconsin...or whether Michigan should be expanding The Big House...or any other issue that's none of his business!!! What a complete moron.
  19. I do. There was obvious evidence of payments made to Maurice Clarett at Ohio State the past few years and nothing came of it but a national championship. The NCAA has bigger fish to fry than academics and underage drinking on campus...like nicknames.
  20. The Providence Civic Center was the last of the 'small' venues that will ever host the NCAA Frozen Four. They hosted the 2000 Frozen Four which was won by North Dakota. Seating capacity for hockey is 11,484. .
  21. Now what did BleedGrn do to get yanked into this debate?
  22. The NCAA is blind if it thinks this type of thing doesn't happen everywhere. There won't be any penalty for Minnesota just like the U of Colorado got a free pass for their football transgressions recently. The president of the university ends of being forced out while Gary Barnett was allowed to stay on as head coach. The only thing that got him fired was the pasting Texas delivered in the Big XII title game last season. Unless Lucia starts losing some more games, I fully expect U of small m administration to turn a blind eye to minor transgressions.
  23. I heard a rumor that Phil Kessel was lobbying for The Platinum Fox!
