  1. Only slightly less secretive than Lois Lerner's e-mails, eh?
  2. Not a Penguins fan...but THIS is how Pittsburgh should look on the ice... http://websta.me/p/812962900900221487_260003747
  3. I can't remember seeing a beat-down this bad...
  4. What's more embarrassing, Tampa Bay's performance tonight or their uniforms?
  5. I was in the area there around 5-10 years ago and incorrectly assumed that Alexander must have closed. I was surprised to see it still open.
  6. Golva closed in the late 1980's/early 1990's...students now go to Beach. NESM closed sometime in the mid 1990's...Belfield and South Heart High Schools remain separate but co-op as the Heart River Cougars. Beach and New England remain.
  7. Are the others co-ops now or did they simply close?
  8. Came across a 1988 Region 8 Tournament program in my garage... District 29: South Heart 1 New England 2 District 30: Glen Ullin 1 Center 2 District 31: New Leipzig 1 Elgin 2 District 32: Scranton 1 Bowman 2 Scranton defeated South Heart for 3rd Place and Glen Ullin defeated New Leipzig for the regional title.
  9. District 29 had only 6 back in my day. I think I remember some complaints about the small number and it being easier to advance to Regionals. Golva closed and District 29 was left with only 5 teams.
  10. 8 teams in the district? Wow! I kind of assumed all districts had 6 teams.
  11. Belfield played Newburg in the '86 boys state basketball title game...by then, they were Kramer-Maxbass-Newburg Eagles. Found two more for Region 8 - Solen Sioux and the Flasher Bulldogs. Cannonball eventually combined with Solen but I'm assuming they had their own team at one time as well. I had some friends in the W-P-R Wolfpack group - Woodworth - Pettibone - Robinson. I think all three of those schools have been closed for a long time now.
  12. Nice work. How about school nicknames? I know Kenmare was the Honkers - awesome name! Another one up that way was the Bowbells Eskimos. Region 7 consisted of schools a few miles north of where I grew up. I know the Killdeer Cowboys and Halliday Wolverines were in the same district and the region giant was the Watford City Wolves who were only a few miles from their rival, the Alexander Comets.
  13. Yes, 8 regions with 4 districts in each one. Region 8 was the SW corner of the state and covered Districts 29-32. The Regional tournament was typically played at Dickinson State, U, although I recall the '86 tournament being played at Dickinson High School.
  14. Mott to Regent to New Leipzig to Elgin encompasses four schools with about 45 minutes between them. They're all along Highway 21.
  15. Region 8 consisted of Districts 29-32. Pretty sure that Hebron, Glen Ullin, Richardton, Taylor, New Salem, and Almont consisted of one of those four districts.
  16. Yes, good ones. I can't place which district though. If I had to guess, I'd say Mott and Regent were district-mates of Elgin and New Leipzig.
  17. Having grown up in the 1980's, it was truly the glory days of basketball out there. I had personal friends who played for the Golva Tigers and they were absolutely crushed when Golva closed and merged its school with Beach. Jeremy and Jason Schmitz were good basketball camp buddies of mine (the Sam Milanovich Camp at DSU). Richardton and Taylor were one of the very first mergers out there. So many more since then...
  18. I didn't mean to hijack the girls' b-ball "Catholic" game coming up this season but it really got me thinking about the glory days of Class B sports in North Dakota, especially boys' basketball. Going off of memory, here's my short list of old district and region teams from yester-year... Old District 29 in Region 8: Golva Tigers Beach Buccaneers Belfield Bantams South Heart Eagles New England Tigers New England St Mary's Saints Some great team names there in Region 8...Glen Ullin Rattlers...Rhame Pirates...Bowman Bulldogs...Hettinger Black Devils...Scranton Miners...Reeder Rockets...New Salem Holsteins...Hebron Brickmakers...Almont Eagles...Elgin Dutchmen...Taylor Redbirds...Richardton Rebels...Center Wildcats...Standing Rock Warriors... Anyone care to help organize those into districts? Glen Ullin, Hebron, Almont, Richardton, Taylor, and New Salem were all in the same district at one time, I believe... Further SW, it was Bowman, Hettinger, Scranton, Rhame, Reeder, and ? Anyone else want to chip in and help out?
  19. Am I the only non-fan of ND high schools and co-ops being called things like "South Prairie," "Dakota Prairie," "North Star," and "North Border," among many others? It's almost impossible to tell where these schools/co-ops are located given such generic-sounding names. At least Belfield and South Heart went with "Heart River," which actually flows past the two towns. Also, kudos to towns like Richardton and Taylor for keeping their names combined instead of being "Prairie Western" or something silly like that. End of rant. U of Mary is a good location for this girls' basketball event. Good call.
  20. 18 runs given up by the Tigers in 3 games with the Twins. Absolutely ridiculous.
  21. DWI free since 03...comes to an end this weekend. That's MY prediction.
  22. As far as where to watch the game in MSP on Saturday? You don't need to be a good ol' boy to answer that, Ricky Bobby.
  23. http://www.undalumni.org/page.aspx?pid=946 This should answer any questions...
  24. If Wes Welker was a Jacksonville Jaguar and not the favorite target of Peyton Manning, he'd be sitting another 3 weeks...
