  1. Yea, Miami fans are known for being fickle. Even the MLB champion Marlins had trouble filling the stands during their title years. Florida Panthers = Kansas City Scouts 2.0? Seattle Thunderbirds?
  2. It didn't look like more than 2,500 tops. Not good at all - that's supposed to be a professional team, right?
  3. Yes, Gostisbehere was drafted - my point was that the only offer he had was from Union College. Lots of schools missed the boat on him.
  4. For every Toews and Oshie, there are probably a half-dozen Gregoires and Lees.
  5. Wow! How in the name of Gordie Howe can Miami financially sustain the Panthers? The crowd at an NCAA western regional hockey tournament in Sault Ste Marie, MI would dwarf the one currently attending the Florida/Ottawa game.
  6. My memory is fuzzy...where was Yale ranked in early October 2012?
  7. Gostisbehere left school after his junior year - apparently 57 teams could use a refresher course on how to evaluate talent. The above-mentioned Shayne Gostisbehere, along with Mat Bodie, Kenny Agostino, Jesse Root, and Andrew Miller could play on my Sioux team anytime they want.
  8. I'm pretty sure it isn't either, but I think UND hockey players might have a different experience at THE Ohio State University, Yale, Michigan, Bowling Green, Lake Superior State, among many others. Maybe a bit tongue-in-cheek with a few references since last Friday, but the logic at UND seems to be to that tossing money around at everything sports-related is a sure-fire way to guarantee national championships, and when those expectations aren't met, heads must roll.
  9. I wouldn't be too quick to write-off Union College as a threat to become an NCAA powerhouse in hockey... 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2013-2014 ECAC conference champions 2012, 2013, 2014 ECAC tournament champions 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 NCAA tournament appearances 2012, 2014 NCAA Frozen Four appearances 2014 NCAA champions Obviously Shayne Gostisbehere (a guy who was offered one and only one chance to play college hockey, mind you) was a big part of that program build-up, but Union's on the map for the long-haul, in my humble opinion. Five years ago, did anyone think Baylor would be the darling of Big XII football? Not a chance. Then some guy who goes by RGIII comes along and now it's the new "it" program in college football. The same could possibly be said of Union in a few years. We'll see...
  10. Are we in competition with Minnesota for the annual "we're ranked #1 in October" trophy that Mark Rosen hands out every Halloween?
  11. I suggested Fighting Shrew months ago...somewhere in this thread...
  12. You're getting the two coaches confused - Bjork Rubeman was the head coach at Sacred Heart back in the day.
  13. Being a Red Sox fan, I would figure you'd be familiar with teams not living up to fan expectations. How many Sox fans penciled their team in for last place in the AL East this year?
  14. I've cracked the code! Irish is Wilbur's dad!
  15. The Seattle Thunderbirds sounds better every single day...
  16. That Buffalo game is one they should have had in the W column...easily.
  17. Dear God, JohnboyND7 hasn't been to church since baptism. Just an FYI. Sincerely, MafiaMan
  18. Thanks, I was wondering what happened to him. I saw him play in high school and thought he was an amazing talent. Not sure what happened with college but am kinda bummed for the kid that it didn't work out the way he probably had hoped.
  19. I thought that last year, too, after the Thanksgiving Day massacre of Green Bay...then it all went to hell.
  20. Nice old-school reference, geaux_sioux!
  21. But...but...but...he was 7-8 yesterday before he got hurt!
  22. I'm a Lions and Dolphins fan, but have soured on Miami since Jimmy Johnson showed Dan Marino the door. There was no question Miami was going to find an incredibly stupid way to choke that game away today...and they fulfilled every expectation in doing so. You'll tank us later...hilarious.
  23. Atta boy, Dolphins. Hook, line, and sinker on the fake spike and you hand victory to GB. Horrible defensive coaching on that play. DB almost 10 yards off the WR counting on the spike...defensive line standing with arms on their hips...I totally knew it was a fake spike before it happened but somebody on Miami's sideline had no clue?
  24. ...followed promptly by the fake spike completed pass for a first and goal. It's like watching a Freddy Krueger movie...you know how this is gonna end: TD Packers
  25. Right on cue...Miami gives up almost 20 yards on a 4th and 10...
