I liked the GF Varmints when they were born in 1996, I thought they could be as big as the FM Redhawks but when the league folded it killed summer ball. Maybe they can get a team that could rival Winnipeg and FM someday.

Campbell put UND baseball on the map last year with the home run derby, by taking 2 out of 3 from #12 USC, that puts UND on radar in the conference. If we keep getting big wins UND could be a recognizable team which is very hard to do up here. I also would love to see a new stadium in Grand Forks but only if it had a roof to play in the spring.

There is only one program that is marketed and that is men's hockey and the Ralph. Football is not on people's mind outside of Grand Forks unless it's NDSU football. Basketball is not talked about because UND has done nothing on the men's side while NDSU has won in the dance. We have big expensive new buildings and not a single trophy since 2001 to show for them. It's sad when you hear Bison you think sports, you hear UND you think nickname issues. Where are the Fighting Hawk billboards, what about a billboard of Bubba's team for 2016, nothing about Jones or Brewster's teams? Marketing for UND athletics is very, very poor especially compared to our closest rival.

I am sure people aren't impressed with their little Kibbie Dome which at 16k capacity must be loud when they average 11,653. Maybe there will be a UND Fighting Hawk plate available once the new logo comes out. It can rival the NDSU plate.

They had an Indian image on their jerseys (Chief Illiniwek) and to comply with the NCAA's NA policy got rid of all Indian association. Fighting Illini can be associated with someone from Illinois( the state not the tribe ).

So NDSU has 8 mens sports and 8 women's sports. (UND is 10 for men's and 14 for women's). I take it 50-50 in sports isn't what counts for title IX, but the ratio of athletes as a school is what counts?
