Doesn't the state of MN usually have budget problems with their schools. I know SCSU almost dropped football due to budget problems, maybe Mankato does their books a lot better than them and their budget isn't too bad. If they were accepted into the MVFC that would be another local team for a home and home without a massive amount to spend. UND could get them SDSU and maybe UNI on the slate, and it would be close to home. There are perks to having Mankato in DI plus they have produced NFL caliber players.

I see only the SL in Mankato's future not the MVFC as the Golden Goofs would block football (like Nebraska did to Omaha). I would think Sioux Falls could be an option as well with more population, media with MidcoSN, and a football team that could go DI if the funds were there. The SL is becoming more of an I-29 league and USF fits it better than Mankato unless they both get in. Also UND could be a wildcard if the MVFC were to offer UND something like they did with USD. Maybe the revolving door the SL has finally stopped.

Mankato won't be in the Big Sky, they are pretty tapped out for teams with the return of Idaho, and is way out of the footprint than UND, as for the MVFC UND is closer to a MVFC team than Mankato so if their is a slight chance they expand (on record saying they won't) I would think UND with NDSU right next door is a more logical choice than a team who doesn't count for playoffs for five years if they ever decide to move up.

Both "football" conferences are stable now comparing the BSC and Summit there is no contest who isn't stable. Last BSC football team to leave is Boise St in 1996 and the last basketball team to leave is CS-Northridge in 2001. That's pretty stable.

I doubt the eastern schools would "jump" at the chance for a plane ride to Mankato. Mankato and MSP are two different areas and the MVFC wouldn't get coverage in the Twin Cities that would put their conference on the map. ISUb at Mankato, Wisconsin at Minnesota....hmmm which would attract more viewers.

No way MSU goes FCS, there is no conference for them. If the MVFC doesn't want us no way they would take Mankato. Their path to DI is the same route UNO took, dump football and join the Slummit.

UND better not sit on their hands if the Montana's and NDSU go FBS with this BSC umbrella and we are stuck with the likes of UNC. If this "umbrella" becomes a reality we better be a leader in this and not miss the bus (again).

You said 28 DI schools have Hawks well only 1 has Fighting Hawks. As for a great name, it follows a great University so why not.

Just being talked about when it comes to rankings is a big step forward after a successful season. I would think UND would be ranked in all the preseason polls somewhere towards the lower half and towards the top in the conference polls. Still early but it's a nice thought and builds even more excitement for next season.

I actually submitted Jets as one of my two nickname choices when this whole thing started. Yes Winnipeg has the Jets but no DI team has it plus UND is known for aviation, but oh well that's over and we are the only Fighting Hawks in the NCAA.

That's why I hope they get Bennett Brien to make the logo. He did great with the Sioux logo, and I think he can make a Fighting Hawks logo stand out among the other Hawk names.

Don't you think for one second people are sick about bringing up UND's nickname? Now you want to scratch this one, go back to nothing and redo the whole thing again, and when a crappy name is picked, you would want to scratch that, and redo the whole thing again. And keep going in this circle until 2 things happen either UND says FU to the NCAA and goes back to the Fighting Sioux or UND has no nickname at all. Well step one will never happen, UND will never be the Fighting Sioux ever, the NCAA had made sure of that. And the NCAA has also made sure that by having no nickname will come with a price. You will find more and more Fighting Hawks around the REA in time, especially when a new logo is branded and new hockey jerseys come out around 2018.

I don't know it didn't make the news like at the REA.

Thinking it sucks is one thing booing at a game because you think it sucks is another. it just makes you look foolish, but that's up to you.

I left that site because it was nothing but a Bison "look at me" post fest in every thread especially the UND game threads that had nothing to do with them, and when the mods did nothing but kiss their behind I left.
