It will be interesting to see how the AD handles the Denver fans. Here is one of the bloggers thoughts. It appears that he has already talked to several people associated with the DU Athletics Department. Overall, he has some interesting information. Some that supports Hammersmith comments above about adding sports. http://milehighmids.tumblr.com/ "If true — and the sourcing seems awfully solid — this is an utterly stunning development. When I learned yesterday that Denver was reportedly a front-runner to join the Missouri Valley Conference, I wondered if the MVC would ultimately pick DU, but it never seriously occurred to me that DU would summarily reject the MVC. That seemed, and still seems, absolutely insane."

I saw the MidCo sports is going to have a spring game special for all four schools.

Not sure about the intellectual honesty bit... I was being a bit of a smart ass and I simply took the comparison you provided. The crux of our exchange is that you think connecting flights are fine and I think that they are a pain. Light'n up, I still want to have a beer with you tailgating this fall.

Big Sky TV only... ESPN U has the finals on Saturday night.

I just looked at the map.. WSU to DU - 517 miles WSU to FU - 724 miles Yes, Denver is closer.. http://nsflight.com/Data/DEN.html Plus direct flights from CID, DSM, OMA, SFG, ICT to DIA would cover all teams except (ISU-B, Evensville, ISU-R, SIU) I am sure direct flights from IND, STL, ORD or BNS would be very nice. That is kind of my point. Denver is a direct flight vs FAR (Fargo). I would say the MVC talking to DU also proves my point that the MVC did not think DU was too far outside the MVC footprint. DU staying in SL is great for SL. I do think that the AD for DU will have several people reaching out to her to understand why they choose to stay in SL when DU approached the MVC about membership a couple of years ago.

So, according to Douple and Summit League - the MV has given an offer to Denver and Denver said "No". I can not wait to hear what the MV has to say - given well you know what I am talking about..

Coach Jones talked about that in his weekly press conference. I would think that they would have a chance, plus they have played well in the two previous appareances. It is senior day for UND B-Ball I hope they have a great crowd for the team.

Getting above .500 important for CIT bid if they do not make it to the dance.
-
hardly... much easier and shorter travel to Denver. Plus it would be a good recruiting ground for the conference and a nice large market. No comparing FU to DU.

I hope that the speed for Carr and Finley translate to plays on the field this year.

You can not be serious... nobody in the MSP media is not a homer... I will always remember how the media went on and on and on and on and on about Zajac's hit at the final horn several years ago. Then three weeks later a Gopher cross checked a guy well after the horn in a Denver game. No reply no comment.. just them saying Minnesota captain serving a two minute penalty for cross checking at the end of the second period. No post game analysis, no Gorg going on about how dangerous it is and how cheap the hit is.. MSP media are biggest group of in the bag homers you can find.. Hell, most Gopher fans I know admit it..

I think Oakland will be moving. They are actively looking and they would be a good addition to any conference. IUPUI and IPFW are filler for some conference if opportunity comes about. I do think that Oakland is the biggest risk. The only other interesting school is Denver. The jump from the SL to MVC is big not just in terms of competition level but financial commitment: Arena, practice facility and coaching staffs. It truly is a high level commitment. The UNI basketball head coach makes more than the Iowa basketball head coach. I believe that top end MVC coaches are above $450,000. I think Denver has the profile they are looking for and the money/market to compete. The one interesting twist that may be in favor of Denver is that they don't have very many traditional Olympic sports. So, travel is really limited to basketball if a conference is willing to overlook some minimum number of sports requirements In addition, the Denver program does not really fit in the SL. Think of it this way, the Denver basketball head coach makes approximately $300,000 to $350,000. The entire staff makes between $700,000 and $800,000. NDSU is the only other school in the SL could match that and are they ready to make Saul and his staff equal to or higher paid than football at NDSU. For reference the total budget for NDSU basketball is around $1m.

Not really interested in the WAC or SL teams. So, I will stick with the Big Sky - thank you very much.

Summit could lose 1 to 5 schools Oakland to A10/MVC/Horizon IUPUI and IPFW are both looking to move. So, if openings come about in the OVC or Horizon they are gone. Denver still has its bags packed and would go to MVC if possible.
