I know that they liked him last year early in the fall. I thought that they moved him to FB.
  2. I thought that I would check flights out of MSP for this season - here is what I have for round trip flghts leaving on Friday and returning on Sunday: San Diego - $285 Sacramento - $451 - NOTE: SF $244 - not sure how much of a hassle it is to go from SF to Sac. Spokane - $289 Bozman - $496 Denver (UNC) - $222

    2012 Recruiting

I thought that National Signing Day was in Feb?
  4. I think the NCAA shut them down in '87 and said no home games in '88 but they could play 7 or 8 road games. But, since most player left the program SMU shutdown the team in '88.
  5. When I noted the dealth penalty and the time I was thinking about all punishments which I thought lasted for 5 years. But, looking into it a bit more I think that SMU was on probation until 1990. So, it would be four years. Yes, I am saying AAU because this was more than an athletic issue - we are talking about the leadership of the school. I can not think of a better way to get the attention of the school presidents and reminding them of the primary mission of our university system and it is not to protect athletics. (NOTE: I know that the NCAA has nothing to due with pulling this..) I really do not expect much from the NCAA.

    2012 early look

Waukesha West's Joe Schobert ran four times for a team-high 53 yards, intercepted a pass and returned five punts for 92 yards. His most spectacular run came in the second quarter, when he leaped into the air to successfully hurdle an oncoming defender. "It was fun to play so many roles," Schobert said, "because I got to practice with the best players in the state at every position." http://www.jsonline.com/sports/preps/wisconsin-football-coaches-association-allstar-game-is-a-big-win-for-the-south-qc63eqn-162490976.html

    2012 early look

On Friday, I got a letter from UND that looked like my season tickets. I was kind of execited as I open it and then it was just my champions club information - dang it - I guess I need to go do some more boating..
  8. Basketball team has had some success, I think the football team may start to turn the corner they have a couple of stud LBs/WRs and the QB looked OK last year. Plus, the largest nose guard I have ever seen play football and I believe that Denver has a large number of UND alumni in the area.
  9. Back on topic - I like the idea of a travelling trophy between UND and MSU. Anyone have any thoughts on a trophy with UNC since they are our other annual game in the Big Sky? Anyone know how do you go about getting this started?
  10. I am fine with anyone who wants to talk about Sioux sports. But, Johnnyboy looks for opportunities to posts about NDSU way too much - last weekend prefect example - we got a history lesson about NDSU option QBs and how no QB in UND could match them. I hesitate to even bring it up again. I am not interested in NDSU option QBs discussions in threads about UND 2012 football or starting a new travelling trophy. If he wants to start a thread about that he is more than welcome to so and in fact it would be helpful to me so I can ignore it.
  11. The NCAA has a bit of a mess on its hands. I understand that they might not have jurisdiction in this case. But, they have shown a willingness to get involved in some very gray areas ie (flags and nicknames). Now, if they sit back and don't get involved with a child predator who was protected by a school, athletic dept and specifically the football program. It will look like it is protecting one of the premier schools/conference in the country. In my opinion - If SMU got the hammer at 5 years. I think a 10 year hammer for the athletics department and AAU status pulled for the school. This will send a very clear message about the priorities for a University. Again, a school president, AD and football coach all knew about this and they let it continue for over a decade. It was a running joke throughout campus about "Jerry’s Kids" - it was an accepted cultural behavior.

I can not wait to see the different types of packages that they come up with both Jameer Jackson and Townson on the field at the same time.
  14. Here is a link to Jeremy Hoeck blog at the P&D that has the coaches’ salaries for USD/SDSU. It looks like UND and USD are very comparable. The only outliner would be Boots but he is also the assistant AD and has been at USD for years. So, it is reasonable to see that Jones is paid less. If, Jones/Brewster and Mussman are successful they will get paid. Little surprised by SDSU - they have definitely increased salaries in the last several years. Football program has slipped the last two years big year at SDSU - the USD game looms very large. A loss to USD could be interesting. USD: Joe Glenn, football, $127,260 Dave Boots, men’s basketball/Asst AD, $122,780 Ryun Williams women’s basketball $96,000 - Amy Williams in the coach now not sure of salary information SDSU: John Stiegelmeier, football, $150,010 Scott Nagy, men’s basketball, $152,000 Aaron Johnston, women’s basketball, $161,358 UND: Mussman, football $114,612 Jones mens basketball $86,334 Gene Roebuck women’s basketball $110,000 - Travis Brewster in the coach now not sure of salary information. NDSU Bohl football $196,668 Saul Phillips basketball $135,000 Carolyn DeHoff women’s basketball $113,400 http://pressdakotan.wordpress.com/ http://legacy.inforum.com/pdfs/0719%20Salaries.pdf

I understand your point and I was simply saying the "target" is Montana which is typically at the top of the Big Sky. I do think that other programs in the Big Sky are setting themselves up to make a run at the top: PSU - new coach, new stadium Poly - new coach, new stadium, autobid conference, more regional games. MSU - new coach, stadium upgrades It will be interesting to see how the Great West teams do in conference this year. Sell - PSU should be a good game and they have been very competitive in the Big Sky the last couple of years. It will be a good measuring stick.

    Buy or Sell

That is why I used the word "target" and not "rival" - UND has to build new rivals in the Big Sky and it will take time.. But, until then the "target" for me is the Griz which typically means the top of the Big Sky. Not disrespect is meant toward other teams in the Big Sky and I am looking forward to games against all Big Sky teams.

Until, they schedule a game - I have moved on to a new target - the Griz. please feel free to continue the debate with the Buffalo fans we don't have enough of those going on..

In the future, please word this type of questions as: Buy or sell UND has a better final ranking/season than Montana within 2 years. They are our new target and it keeps the Fargo riff raff to a minium. thanks

  21. The data is from 2010 so it is in the middle of the transition. I would think that you would see a nice increase as part of joining the Big Sky. As I looked at the data I was amazed at how little ticket revenue many programs had.. I am really excited about the Big Sky and today it is in a great position: 1) 4 - programs will be playing in a auto-bid football conference for the first time (Poly, UCD, SUU and UND). I expect all four of the schools to make major jumps. 2) While looking at the data - I noticed that all large ticket revenue schools not only had successful programs but a major rival. If you look at the schools added to the Big Sky it gave existing Big Sky schools potential rivals going forward - Sac/UCD/Poly, SUU/NAU/Weber St. 3) Big Sky is now the number three football conference in the Western US 4) Portland has a new stadium and EWU won a NC. I expect to see those schools making improvements. In general I am bullish on the future of the Big Sky - I can not wait... still waiting for my season tickets.
  22. Actually, I think that I have the data for MV, Summit, MtnWest, Big West and Southland. I used it to create the norm data. But, I only took the time to chart the Big Sky. I guess that I am really looking forward to the Big Sky and I have kind of moved on with the xDSU/UNI/USD group... when I have some time (rainy day) in the near future I can chart the data it doesn't take much to do.. if I recall correctly, general thoughts as I cleaned data: UNI/NDSU/SIU/MSU very comparable - UNI/MSU/SIU slightly basketball heavy and NDSU slightly football heavy.. SDSU healthy but a step behind right at norm with ticket revenue. USD has some major work to do ... but I have a lot of good friends from USD and they are very excited about the future of the program and it sounds like dome upgrades and new arena are being pushed.. The Summit is just wow - Oakland had something like $100,000 in ticket revenue compared to the norm average of around a $1 m (yes, I get the no football side of it - but they have a great program and 100k is it? - I think that is why they want the Horizon so bad - more rivals ie more ticket sales). Overall conference is kind of lopsided... xDSU on one side and everyone else on the other side. IUPUI had something like 30,000/40,000 in tickets sales. MV very balanced and wow Wichita St. I think they have the money to start football..
  23. I was listening to an interview with the Big Sky Commissioner the other day and he talked about how he looked at athletic programs and how many programs are being built on student fees, guarantee games and institutional support (sfgis) which is not sustainable in the long run. I thought that I would look at the Big Sky schools to see what the conference looked like in that context, plus I just wanted to learn a bit more about the Big Sky and what UND was getting itself into… As I looked at the data, I came up with the following chart – thought it would be useful to share with other just learning about the Big Sky. General description of the chart: X axis - % of athletic programs budget from sfgis Y axis - % of athletic budget attributed to football program Bubble Size – revenue from ticket sales – I choose this as an indicator of the following a program may have. General Quadrant descriptions: Top RHS – Football School with a healthy budget Top LHS – Football School dependant on sfgis Lower RHS – non Football dependant with a healthy budget Lower LHS – non Football dependant on sfgis NOTE:I added Idaho and New Mexico St just to see how they would fit in..Montana is impressive I can see why the WAC is talking to them.. Mods sorry if the image is too much.. I can delete it you like
  24. So you are saying the NDSU and SDSU are a package deal versus SDSU and USD?
