  1. Count me in that group. I don't like having to retire the name but it is the only reasonable thing to do. We fought the good fight and the penalties aren't worth it anymore.
  2. I attended Sioux - Bison games of all kinds for 35+ years and played in 3 of them. They are the most intense / exciting games you will ever see. There is so much on the line for both teams regarding bragging rights and recruiting advantages. I still say we shouldn't beg that cow college for anything. If they don't want to play us and think they are just doing us a favor they can stuff it. We will find other games.
  3. A public figure gets suspended from her job for 2 weeks for harassment of a student. That is news and should be reported even if the public institution she works for doesn't want it to be.
  4. My point is that the person that started this forum isn't necessarily an unhappy parent or player as a couple of posters stated. UND and Grand Forks are fairly small communities and word gets around.
  5. Not much of a stretch to believe that they could know somebody on the team or close to the team.
  6. KFAN beyond the pond segment this morning on how Hennen announcing gave UND advantage. Really? In your backyard? Move the tourney to Grand Forks next year and bring your announcer. And good luck with a Big 10 tourney in Madison or Detroit or Columbus! I guess it must have been hard hearing "here's your University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux SCORING...." SIX UNANSWERED TIMES!
  7. MN had more fast strong skaters than we did. Most surreal moment of the game was when the PA played Native American war drums late in the 1st period. What a bunch of hypocrites.
  8. The ones that matter the most are the current and future students and athletes. The tribes had a chance to support us nickname backers and didn't act. It appeared to me that they were happy to finally have the power and weren't going to help UND out with the NCAA problem. I also wear multiple Sioux logos every time I attend a game and will again today. Even if the nickname leaves I will continue to do so. It just isn't worth the price we are paying now and will continue to pay in the future to officially keep the name.

There may be more but here is my list: Hockey only crowd - don't care about the university as a whole or the rest of our teams The anti PC people- Scott Hennen and his stable of neo-cons, they're gonna show the gov't who's boss, problem is the NCAA is a club, not the gov't Anti UND people - who want to do us harm Those that don't realize the harm that it will do. Any guesses out there on % of petition signers that fall into each category? Chewey - I support the petition process and I don't fit into anyone of those groups, especially #2 "neo-con" reference. ummmmm - your response to this doesn't necessarily jive with your post above
  10. I have worked with, worked for, interviewed and hired engineers from both schools. No difference in quality of engineers from either school.
  11. Dear Cratter- We don't want to change our name but realize the damage that will be done isn't worth it anymore. If cheering for a team with a Native American name is that important to you - please cheer for the Blackhawks and leave us alone. One more problem solved. signed - a former Sioux student athlete.

  13. Even if we don't get voted out the sactions hurt our programs. Period.
  14. And if FBS schools refuse to play you it limits your ability to be an effective D1 program. Minnesota and others have already taken that stance if it isn't a league or playoff game. Not sure where the petition backers get the idea that they will back down from that but it has been stated here.
  15. 100% agree. I was a strong nickname supporter at one time. I am a UND Graduate and Letterwinner and have that long family history as well. I have come to realize that this petition might be the most damaging thing you could do to the university at this time. Having to change the nickname isn't fair but life isn't fair and we need to make the best of it. The 'hockey only' crowd doesn't care about the rest of the sports at UND and are willing to sell them down the river for a hockey jersey.
  16. You dug this up from Sept 8th? Really- you don't have better things to do? I guess we were too busy beating MN again.
  17. That is why most of us will never cheer for them regardless of the situation and some people still think we should because they are a ND team.
  18. I'm with Ira. I was wondering if he took some posts down because I didn't see anything too objectionable. Good luck to him.
  19. This is all a bunch of drivel. See Sic's comment above. Kelly and Faison could continue to fight for a lost cause if they wanted to, but we had 3-5 years to resolve it and lost at every turn. Some fool's blog will not change that. It is time to move on and spend our energy to make the university and teams better, not try to save our favorite hockey jersey at the expense of the rest of our sports.
  20. I think the announcers mispoke and first stated that it was a US timeout. Later they said it was the Czech's that took that timeout.
  21. Are the games on TV at all this weekend? Really wondering about Fox College Sports
  22. When I was in HS in 1977 I saw the Sioux men's basketball team beat SD 87-84 in 4 OT. Hyslop was packed and the atmosphere was electric. The top of the upper deck was about 3 deep with people standing and watching. Football - the 1993 SU game was incredible and lots of fun to be at. For the NC game I only got to see the beginning and end of it because of a funeral. There were TVs on in the church cafeteria during the luncheon afterward. The deceased was a big sports fan and the priest told everyone he would have wanted us to follow the game. Most people were pretending not to be watching while they sipped coffee and ate cake. When 'The Play' happened the place exploded as people jumped up out of their seats. Very surreal. I did make it to the next NC game and even though we lost it was a great time to be a Sioux.
