  1. One thing that makes it obvious that Bubba is heavily invested in UND is the interest he shows in getting his players and other students to support other teams at UND. He really is the genuine article.

  3. My story is that my father-in-law passed away the week of the game so I couldn't go to the game and his funeral was right during the game. It was also my 40th birthday that day. My mother-in-law has apologized a few times for 'making' me miss the game. The priest told us to listen to the game on the way to the cemetery because my father-in-law was a big fan and would have appreciated it. The post funeral lunch was at Sacred Heart which had TVs up in the corners in the cafeteria. A few of us were gathered around the TV watching but most people were sitting down eating and drinking coffee and pretending not to watch. When we broke the big play on 4th and 4 the entire place erupted. All those pretending not to pay attention were really watching over the top of their coffee mugs. I did run into the UND coaches that night and had a few beers with them. Quite a day - lots of sadness and lots of joy.
  4. a lot of the discussion has centered around whether Business Class is appropriate or not and that isn't the issue. Just trying to get it back to some kind of reasonable discussion and not get sidetracked with 'elitist' talk.
  5. Flying Business Class is not the issue here and I have done it many times but that met with the rules my company has in place. The fact that the rules governing Bresciani's travel stated that he was to fly coach unless approved by a President. It sounds like he 'approved' the upgrade in travel for himself which is shady at best.

  7. Hard for me to say but what the heck - I hope he does well.
  8. I am not in a position to fire him or prosecute him and I really don't plan to STFU. Nice mature reply, by the way. Maybe it is time to start ignoring the noise inside your head. I have traveled all over the world for business. We have rules on what class of ticket is acceptable based on distance and we aren't able to approve our own expenses or upgrades for that matter. Do you think he would have done it if he knew he was going to get caught approving his own upgrade? I highly doubt it. I have stayed in the same hotel on business and personal travel. We don't have per diem but get reimbursed for actual expenses. All of those receipts are reviewed by our immediate supervisors and we don't approve our own spending.
  9. He played the system and didn't think it would get noticed. Integrity is how you act when nobody is watching and he didn't think anybody was watching. I doubt he would have flown Business Class if he knew others would find out. The rule was that he needed approval from the President so he approved it for himself. I'm sure he realized that he was complying with the "letter of the law" but it doesn't pass the smell test. As the Chancellor said it was technically legal but an embarrassment.
  10. My company sends a lot of people to Europe and Asia every week.($2B in sales/year) Essentially our policy is domestic is coach, Europe is Economy Comfort (coach +), anything to Asia (over 8 hours) is OK'd for business class.
  11. The only one I remember from AZ was Peters. He wasn't an all American but played a fair amount and seemed to work hard.
  12. That is not my experience in the Twin Cities. I work for a large engineering company and we stopped sponsoring non-US citizens for positions about 15 years ago. After 2-3 years their H-1B visas expire and they have a hard time staying in the US. It is a lot of work to justify keeping them in the US and quite often it is denied. Prior to signing them up for an interview we ask - "do you have an unrestricted right to work in the US long term?". If the answer is no we tell them we have chosen to not sponsor foreign nationals for work visas at this time.
  13. I know a friend who is pretty high up in UM athletic dept. he said Brewster was getting football players in with ACT scores of 10 and 11. Most all of his highly rated recruits were out of school within a year or two.
  14. I don't know his story but it's too bad he can't stick it out for 3 years and get a degree that would open a lot of doors for future. Maybe play some football at the next level too.

My experience with D-III schools is that there is extra money for kids they really want. They package it as financial aid but more of it seems to find its way to the top athletes.
  16. Is it believed he is a scholarship player or PWO?
  17. Just adding that Joe Shobert ended up being an FBS all American this year. He had agreed to walk on at UND at one point. Not making any statement on what we need.
  18. and all-american linebacker too
  19. Per a conversation I had with Kolpack - GT and Chapman both told him that SU would never play UND as long as they were there because they were upset that UND wouldn't play during transition. Not a business decision - an emotional one (feelings were hurt)
  20. After nearly 15 years and with all of the original players gone, I have a suggestion ...........
  21. Not trying to fan the flames but I am not aware how UND did everything in its power to see that NDSU would fail other than not playing them. Do you have other examples?
  22. The discussion appears to be about letting go of the bad blood because of the refusal to schedule the other team when the needed games. One team is holding onto that and is unwilling to to schedule a home and home. The other agreed to travel twice in an effort to get the games started again. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
  23. Letting it go would mean being willing to schedule a regular home and home. One team is willing to do that and the other won't let it go, as you say. I don't really care if we play or not but to say UND is not willing to let it go is bass ackwards.
  24. Let's clear another thing up. Here is what we were reacting to. His statement was that NDSU would have scheduled UND for a home and home if the dates worked out. To which I said BS - there were plenty of times the dates would have lined up for a home and home over the years. Nothing more...nothing less. Per Tjamz - For the record, I've been in favor of never playing UND again unless it's in the playoffs. I really don't think it is good for either school as it brings out the worst in most fans. As for why we did with Weber, we had an opening in our schedule last season and this season. Weber was one of a few schools that we could do a home and home with in those years that had the right dates open. I'm fairly certain that IF those dates were open at both UND & NDSU we may have seen a home and home scenario play out there as well. The stars didn't align so it didn't happen.
