Paul could return to Lincoln, but he really has nothing to prove at the USHL level. In addition this brings in another right handed defenseman along with Jordan Schmatlz, in which the Sioux will need. I think if he comes in next year, he'll get some playing time. He'll for sure add extra depth to the D corps.
-
Additional note, the women's team with the North Dakota symbol and logo actually have better jerseys than the men's team now. Yep, I said it!
-
Green jersey looks just ok. The black jersey on the other hand, is atrocious! Terrible to see the black jersey that usually is praised so high at UND, suck so much. Disgusting!
-
I'd rather have the Jets come down to play a game at The Ralph.
-
I agree. I don't think the Wild coming to the Ralph brings excitement to the Grand Forks community anymore. Most people who live in the area have driven down to MSP to see a Wild game. In addition, during the exhibition/pre-season, the games are filled with rosters of no name talents trying to make the squad. If you have little kids that have never been to a NHL game or seen the Wild, it's worth the price and the experience, but for the majority it's a rather dull game to watch in attendance being a fan.

I feel like this kid Drake Caggiula, is the real deal. He's a steal of a recruit. Regardless if he comes next year or not, one has to give credit to Hak and company for finding this blue chip recruit early on. I know a lot of WCHA teams will be disappointed they didn't act on this kid earlier. How Hak and company, found him before everyone else, is a truly a thing of beauty in terms of recruiting. I wouldn't be surprised for this kid to go a lot higher in the NHL draft than he is projected. Just my 2 cents. Off note, that kid will learn real quick at UND that those rubbing the ice goal theatrics is unacceptable at UND. If Kristo, is still around, he can be the one to educate him on that, as Kristo was served a tough lesson his freshman year on how to celebrate goals properly. Not bashing the kid, he needs to learn this lesson, We (UND) don't do that. If you want's to do that sh^t go play at Minnesota.
-
I think we (the minority) in the college hockey world have little to worry about. This isn't big time $$$ like college football or basketball, where a vast majority of recruiting violations and allegations take place.
-
If Carey Eades is still the assistant coach, UND still benefits. A lot of speculation was surrounding the return of Brad Berry, which would be a huge asset once again with him at UND. Berry worked well with the development of defensemen at UND and was also well liked among recruits and players.

Do you honesty think the Gophers will be preseason number 1? With what goaltender?
-
Amazing to see in that Krisot video, how he socred so many goals against quality teams. Minneosota, CC, Wisco. I really was surprised how many goals he's scored against the Gophs. Awesome, MN and the Gophers hate him!
-
Goaltending will be fine. Saunders will be a stud goalie (remember he's 6'3, when have the Sioux had that?) and throw in the fact he'll have a quality team in front of him. Zane too will be on his game come December and will be a great goalie, he'll have that little adjustment. Keep in mind Dell hasn't signed yet... Back to Saunders, I feel like it'll take the Sioux 5-10 games to find their game early on in the season, the reason I say this because of all the guys coming off of injury, which brings me to my next point. Rodwell - He really needs to have a strong summer once he is fully recovered. He was a very impressive freshman. A player that flat out went hard, and throw his weight around. He needs to find a scoring touch somewhere and somewhere early this season. 8-15 goals from him next year would be HUGE. Colten St. Clair - I don't know what to expect out of him. Sitting out a year is good for adding strength but your game on the ice regresses. He was once a thought out big recruit, but his play in the USHL (with Fargo) was so-so. What I do know, is that he's a competitor and plays a gritty, hard-nosed game. I think he'll be in the line up next year more than being a healthy scratch. Where exactly in the line up is the question... Mitch Mcmillian - Will he be an extra, or can he find his game come spring semester? It's totally up to him. It's all about progression and work ethic with him. He's at UND to get a slight, yes, a slight chance to play with his brother Mark, that should be enough of a motivator for him to find his game. Chyzk - I think will the right mindset of a great summer workout routine gets him to step in and step up right away with the Sioux team next year. I expect him 3rd to 4th line in the first half of the year, but see him being a tremendous 3rd line asset that could net 8-12 goals as a freshie. Think along the seasons of Parks or Macmillan this past year. Koules - A very big question mark. The skill set and being a good player is there. He needs a strong off-season to bring confidence to his game. He could be the outside looking in when it comes to suiting up in the line up next year. Can he find his scoring touch early in the season so that he gets opportunities to play on the 3rd line? We shall see..

Chris Kreider I think is a junior, will be gone for sure.
-
I thought the same thing as well. I think in the back of his head/mind he knew he probably played his last game at UND. Brock loved UND and was very proud to play for the Sioux. I think all emotions aside, he must have known the Isles wanted him to sign after his season was over probably with that lingering in the back of his mind during his play in the National Tournament. That last scene in Through the Doors with Rowney/or Knight? hugging/playing around with Nelson, displays the body language that Neslon was enjoying his last few moments and memories inside the UND locker room as he knew he'd be singing a few days later.

When have you ever bought a Sioux jersey, either an authentic or replica that had numbers? The Sioux Shop isn't just going to make a plethora of jerseys with jersey #13 or some uncommon number to make it look like the current jerseys. It'll just say North Dakota in a different design (with no number being in the middle), with no numbers. Which, ultimately won't mimic the true jersey, This will suck!
-
I can't believe no one has said this about the new jerseys: Look folks, when you buy a replica or authentic Sioux Jersey there is no numbers on the jersey. I repeat there are no numbers. You have to order/pay to get numbering. With the newer jerseys if you buy a replica, you'll have a totally different design!. It'll just say "North Dakota" and the graphic logo design won't be the same (authentic) as the players jerseys, with the North Dakota and then the numbers in the middle. How shoddy will those replica jerseys look? I feel so bad fore the fans next year and in the future that will buy these newer jerseys. Truly, very sad! How has no one not brought this up, yet?

In my honest opinion, I haven't seen a player like Brock Nelson in a long time at UND. Been watching the Sioux my whole life (24 years now). Brock has speed, a shot, great hands, high knowledge on how to the play the game, and he's a competitor. Yes, we all know that his ability to be more dominate comes with adding muscle and weight. However, keep in mind there's plenty of 6'0 180 lbs players dominating the NHL right now. Brock, I'd say is 6'4 185 currently, If he gets to 200 come NHL camp, he'll be fine and should be a force. Some of his intangibles are what the Isles are missing with some of their younger crop of players. Also, one needs to understand that he is joining the Isle organization. Despite a solid base of young players in there now, a lot of GM's and hockey analysts question how good some of that current crop actually is, even their two-way game. Bailey, Tavares, Okposo, Moulson, Grabner have gotten a great opportunity to play every game in that organization and been allowed to make mistakes because the team is brutal and is in a youth transition movement. I'd expect Brock to be a dominate top 6 power forward on the Isles within two (2) yes, 2 years there! Had he stayed one more year in college, he would have been the best player in college hockey, without question. I figured he'd have a strong sophomore campaign, but I couldn't believe how dominate he was, game in and game out. Despite, his 5-6 empty net goals (may have had less) he was literally generating 5-6 shots a game, 3-4 scoring chances and seemed like he had a breakaway almost every game. If he had the "Bochenski" touch around the net this year, he should have had 35+ goals.

An extra game for Rocco, Derek, and Brenden to get their sh^t figured out before the season starts and put the injury bug behind them on the journey to banner #8.
-
Simply stated, Rocco Grimaldi isn't a third line player or talent. He belongs on the first line if not the second, but with the likelihood of Knight, Kristo, Nelson staying intact, there is no room for him on that first unit. He'll be playing with Parks and Mcmillan. Rowney gets the demotion making the team better and deeper with his talent at 3rd line center.
-
Your centers will be Knight, Gimaldi, Rowney next year.
-
Despite Gothberg, I think people need to understand how good Clark Saunders could/will be on a good UND team, next year. He's a 6'3 goaltender with a save percentage over 900% playing on a shoddy Huntsville team. Keep in mind Dell is only 6'0 ft. Not taking anything away from Dell, but you can bet Saunders is going to get quite the opportunity next year.
-
I forgot his name while determining the lines. He'll not only be a top- 9 forward next year, but a top 6! I'll insert him to start on the third line: (because he's coming off an injury) 3rd - O'Donnell - Rowney - Rodwell or Chyzk Pattyn gets bumped to 4th line. The perfect line for him, he'll be a great grinder, can be an instigator and kill penalties. No shame in demoting Pattyn to the third line to the fourth. He'll know his role next year. I expect him to get in a one fight next year too, which will be an absolute massacre. The reason being, is because he wants to fight once, and we'll have more depth and no injures for him to do so, next year.
-
We already know next years team will have more depth and in fact be better from Day 1. It sure would be nice to know whether Seth Jones decides to come to UND or not. I have a weird feeling he'll commit and use that as leverage for major juniors, don't know why, don't ask. I'd love for him to commit to UND, UND hasn't really had a big time stud D man in awhile, sure would be fun to have a player like that. Next year, we bring in two great goaltenders to challenge Dell all season long, which is great. In addition, we bring in two skilled forwards and one top incoming defensive recruit. Our biggest challenge will be team chemistry at the beginning of the year. Also, the transition back to the college game for O' Donnell, Rocco and Rodwell. Rocco and O'Donnell will find their game fast, Rodwell needs to get a goal early right away next year for confidence. He'll either be a really good third player or a fourth line player looking in. Taylor Dickin, great kid, his days are limited, he had the opportunity to have a big impact year this year and didn't despite his year end injury, he'll be an extra body. The depth next year, should help a lot, not only barring injures, but more so with competition in practice. I expect some great players to be on the third or fourth line. My line up: 1st - Kristo, Knight, Nelson - given that Kristo doesn't leave 2nd - Parks, Grimaldi, Macmillian - Pretty sure this was the line used prior to October and Rocco's injury 3rd - Patty (he belongs on a third line, great grinder!) Rowney (his numbers may go down, but it's for the good of the team) - Rodwell or Chyzk 4th - St. Clair - Koules - Gaarder D Mac - Forbs Simpson - Mattson Gleason - Schmaltz - I like that pairing, Gleason with his speed for recovery when Schmaltz makes some rookie mistakes in the first half of the year. Goalies - I'd say next year more than ever, a rotation will be used. I don't care if Dell is a Senior. Gothberg will contest and that new transfer goalie, should be awesome!
-
If I'm the Toronto Maple Leafs, I'd rather play and have Andrew Mcwiliam on my team and play a shut down role D than play the most overrated defensemen in Luke Schenn, who turns over more pucks than a Pee Wee player.
-
On D next year, you let and keep Gleason on D. I think he'll shine playing D. He's a great skating D who can skate the puck out of the zone. I'm excited to see him play back there all year and actually have enough forwards to fill out the forward lines.
