Bring in Brad Berry as the new assistant coach and lure in Seth Jones, with Brad's ability to development D-man. How can a young kid pass that up?
-
No disrespect to Eric Fabian, but you don't throw Cary Eades with a tremendous amount of experience and have Eric Fabian be the replacement. You can toss out that suggestion as a replacement out the window. Not going to happen.
-
Pure speculation, but I believe we'll see Mr. Brad Berry back at UND.
-
Local kid, (Grand Forks Red River) Jacob Benson was drafted in the USHL Futures draft. He had some solid stats on a deep Red River team as a sophomore.

We'll see... think it's time for the coaching staff to not focus too much on recruiting players from the US Development team. Don't get me wrong, they're some great players that go there and develop to become top notch recruits, but over the last few years you've seen way too many of these players de-commit from college thinking the grass is greener on the other side in the WHL. In reality, I've been following recruits for years, tons of players choose the WHL and years later are nowhere near the NHL let alone, making an impact in the NHL. I think the college student-athelte part gets to these kids too. Now, granted they can take super easy classes at college, but one needs to realize these kids at the development team get things served to them on a silver platter, they all each think they're superstars in their own world when they get the invite to attend and play on the US team. I truly think it comes down to a maturity issue and the character these kids choose to represent at their time there and after, whether it's going and staying true to your word with a college or going to the WHL. Non Development team related, but there's only been a handful of young kids I've seen growing up that you knew would be superstars. Toews, Oshie, Zach Parise, Patrick Kane, Cam Fowler too - When I watched him when he was younger I knew he'd be on the fast track to the NHL.
-
I highly doubt the USA team misused him during his time there. He's just not that good and didn't develop. It happens to a lot of younger talented hockey players when they're 15-18.
-
I agree. The Sioux team next year will be totally fine still with talent. More opportunity for Drake and Bryn to come in as freshie's and prove themselves. To their credit, they're both better players than Miles anyways.
-
Goodbye Miles Koules, we hardly knew ya. I knew he wouldn't wear the Sioux jersey. Not a huge loss, really. Good luck, son, you're going to need it.
-
The more the better. I feel this upcoming year is our best chance to actually win in NC in a long time. If we have an abundance of forwards and guys like Senkbeil, Gaarder possibly, Dickin, or even some freshies like Koules or St. Clair sitting out, that's fine. We need to go back to having 3 deep lines with a 4th line that grinds and plays well defensively. I want to see a Sioux team with tremendous talent and depth, and I think you'll get that next year. Competition in practice should be an all-time high next year. If those players don't like it and don't want to compete for a NC, they can go elsewhere for more playing time. Lastly, we all know not every line can have pure talent and skill for forwards. The lines will have to be mixed up a bit. That's why you'll see O'Donnell on 2nd line or 3rd along with Pattyn on 3rd possible 4th, being a great 4th line grinder. I fee like we'll have the epitome of the best 3rd line in the country next year, whomever plays on that line. Caggiula should come, I think we need one more dynamic freshie as a scoring punch. He should be that guy. I'm a little optimistic on how quickly Koules and St. Clair adjust to the college game.
-
Kristo coming back is huge. Nice to have a veteran scoring presence back, along with Knight. Now let the lines speculation start!
-
Toews is just as liable being one big hit way from never playing hockey again. Toews has had 2 concussions in the last 2 years or less.
-
Well via twitter: @drakecaggiula: signing National Letter of Intent, part of the North Dakota hockey family, #greatfeeling #seeyouinthefall So it appears he is coming in the fall. Even in Kristo stays (which isn't going to happen) I like this move with him coming in. He'll be a key contributor at UND. I think he'l'l be a great 4 year player. If he develops quickly he could be gone after 3.
-
Paul could return to Lincoln, but he really has nothing to prove at the USHL level. In addition this brings in another right handed defenseman along with Jordan Schmatlz, in which the Sioux will need. I think if he comes in next year, he'll get some playing time. He'll for sure add extra depth to the D corps.
-
Additional note, the women's team with the North Dakota symbol and logo actually have better jerseys than the men's team now. Yep, I said it!
-
Green jersey looks just ok. The black jersey on the other hand, is atrocious! Terrible to see the black jersey that usually is praised so high at UND, suck so much. Disgusting!
-
I'd rather have the Jets come down to play a game at The Ralph.
-
I agree. I don't think the Wild coming to the Ralph brings excitement to the Grand Forks community anymore. Most people who live in the area have driven down to MSP to see a Wild game. In addition, during the exhibition/pre-season, the games are filled with rosters of no name talents trying to make the squad. If you have little kids that have never been to a NHL game or seen the Wild, it's worth the price and the experience, but for the majority it's a rather dull game to watch in attendance being a fan.

I feel like this kid Drake Caggiula, is the real deal. He's a steal of a recruit. Regardless if he comes next year or not, one has to give credit to Hak and company for finding this blue chip recruit early on. I know a lot of WCHA teams will be disappointed they didn't act on this kid earlier. How Hak and company, found him before everyone else, is a truly a thing of beauty in terms of recruiting. I wouldn't be surprised for this kid to go a lot higher in the NHL draft than he is projected. Just my 2 cents. Off note, that kid will learn real quick at UND that those rubbing the ice goal theatrics is unacceptable at UND. If Kristo, is still around, he can be the one to educate him on that, as Kristo was served a tough lesson his freshman year on how to celebrate goals properly. Not bashing the kid, he needs to learn this lesson, We (UND) don't do that. If you want's to do that sh^t go play at Minnesota.
-
I think we (the minority) in the college hockey world have little to worry about. This isn't big time $$$ like college football or basketball, where a vast majority of recruiting violations and allegations take place.
-
If Carey Eades is still the assistant coach, UND still benefits. A lot of speculation was surrounding the return of Brad Berry, which would be a huge asset once again with him at UND. Berry worked well with the development of defensemen at UND and was also well liked among recruits and players.
-
Do you honesty think the Gophers will be preseason number 1? With what goaltender?
-
Amazing to see in that Krisot video, how he socred so many goals against quality teams. Minneosota, CC, Wisco. I really was surprised how many goals he's scored against the Gophs. Awesome, MN and the Gophers hate him!
-
Goaltending will be fine. Saunders will be a stud goalie (remember he's 6'3, when have the Sioux had that?) and throw in the fact he'll have a quality team in front of him. Zane too will be on his game come December and will be a great goalie, he'll have that little adjustment. Keep in mind Dell hasn't signed yet... Back to Saunders, I feel like it'll take the Sioux 5-10 games to find their game early on in the season, the reason I say this because of all the guys coming off of injury, which brings me to my next point. Rodwell - He really needs to have a strong summer once he is fully recovered. He was a very impressive freshman. A player that flat out went hard, and throw his weight around. He needs to find a scoring touch somewhere and somewhere early this season. 8-15 goals from him next year would be HUGE. Colten St. Clair - I don't know what to expect out of him. Sitting out a year is good for adding strength but your game on the ice regresses. He was once a thought out big recruit, but his play in the USHL (with Fargo) was so-so. What I do know, is that he's a competitor and plays a gritty, hard-nosed game. I think he'll be in the line up next year more than being a healthy scratch. Where exactly in the line up is the question... Mitch Mcmillian - Will he be an extra, or can he find his game come spring semester? It's totally up to him. It's all about progression and work ethic with him. He's at UND to get a slight, yes, a slight chance to play with his brother Mark, that should be enough of a motivator for him to find his game. Chyzk - I think will the right mindset of a great summer workout routine gets him to step in and step up right away with the Sioux team next year. I expect him 3rd to 4th line in the first half of the year, but see him being a tremendous 3rd line asset that could net 8-12 goals as a freshie. Think along the seasons of Parks or Macmillan this past year. Koules - A very big question mark. The skill set and being a good player is there. He needs a strong off-season to bring confidence to his game. He could be the outside looking in when it comes to suiting up in the line up next year. Can he find his scoring touch early in the season so that he gets opportunities to play on the 3rd line? We shall see..

Chris Kreider I think is a junior, will be gone for sure.
-
I thought the same thing as well. I think in the back of his head/mind he knew he probably played his last game at UND. Brock loved UND and was very proud to play for the Sioux. I think all emotions aside, he must have known the Isles wanted him to sign after his season was over probably with that lingering in the back of his mind during his play in the National Tournament. That last scene in Through the Doors with Rowney/or Knight? hugging/playing around with Nelson, displays the body language that Neslon was enjoying his last few moments and memories inside the UND locker room as he knew he'd be singing a few days later.
