I would guess 400 UND fans were there. Pockets of 2 & 4 here and there. They had up pretty spread out. Empty seats in lower level were in the club -bar - area. Most of those people spent much of the game in the bar, that you had to have tickets for. Otherwise a pretty packed arena.

Yep, I thought the FB boys were great. The "swim" move during free throws, the thong shot, the chants, and riding the Weber bench pretty hard. The BBall players were down in the midst of them 5 minutes after the game was over, so you know they appreciated it. Fun to see the team taking turns with Loyal's flag. Good to see. Very good game to watch.

Sorry, thats on Hooker. A play isn't absolutely set for Hooker to shoot no matter what. Its on him to dish when he draws multiple defenders. He tries to do too much at times.

Tremendous effort. Once again we played with emotion and heart. I think our biggest issue is that Shanks isn't very good. 90% of the time his hands are down by his knees and that makes him late making plays on both ends. Avants played his heart out, but we need something out of Shanks, but its just not there. Cashman in street clothes doesn't help. So, No. 12 was the difference, overall Montana played smart and got great production out of the post and from their quality depth. I still think our team is an upgrade over last year's and it was a fun atmosphere today. Side note...late in the game the football players started a "Lets Go Hawks" chant. Thought that was interesting.

My brother works at UND and I talked to him after the first vote. He said one of the 6 people in his technical maintenance department printed out the fierce fighting hawk logo with the feathers and all 6 thought it was great. He was going to vote Roughriders, but he thought the "hawk logo was too great to pass up." and changed his mind. He said all 6 voted for the Hawks. He is 63, a longtime season ticket holder and a Sioux sports fan. Just hasn't followed the whole nickname change as passionately as many have. I told him there is no way UND will ever use a logo anywhere close to what they were shown, but his group of 6 bought the idea that it would be the logo. I have to think a high percentage of the Hawk vote is in that camp. Strong UND and Sioux fans, not dumb, but certainly uninformed.

When we were in Omaha for the hockey series, we took in the Saturday afternoon Mens basketball game between Creighton and Georgetown. Over 17,000 in attendance at Century Link for the 1:00 pm MBB game. With the Omaha - UND MHockey game at 7:00 pm. We talked to some locals and asked about the conversion. They said the arena staff can make the complete basketball to hockey conversion in 30 minutes. A multi-purpose facility has to have the equipment and manpower to make the conversion that quickly if they want to schedule both sports a few hours apart. Just saying, no reason it couldn't be done at the REA (except maybe the costs of extra equipment and payroll) 17k for Creighton BBall and 10 or 11k for UNO Hockey (at least against UND) probably makes it more financially feasible than using our BBall numbers.

: I was part of a tour of the Betty and Ralph a few years ago that my employer arranged for some out of town visitors. Someone asked the tour guide how the Betty was paid for. She said it is commom mis-perception that Ralph or the REA paid for the Betty. She said it wasn't true and UND took a loan of over 7 million and was paying off the Betty out of athletic department revenues. It was named in honor of Betty, but the Engelstad family wasn't involved in paying for it. I think if you look back, even in this forum, you'll see that is the case. Not sure on whose property the Betty sits...UND or REA. But, for the expense of the building at least, the Betty was a UND project.

And most UND fans are "competent" enough to know about the states of SD and MN. Just maybe not the state of NDSU? Also, if you "grow tired" of people on a UND site not giving you the love you need, even though you are such an innocent non-troll simply looking for some friendly banter, my suggestion would be for you to stay in the state of NDSU, where I'm sure you can find it.

An update on the Fleet Farm. I just talked to my friend at the utility that originally told me about Fleet Farm coming to GF. He said after they provided the study to Fleet Farm on how they would serve them along with the estimated costs involved for a new Grand Forks store, months went by without hearing much. He said they finally talked to Fleet Farm HQ 2 months ago and were told they no longer have plans for building in Grand Forks. (Fleet Farm has since announced for Duluth - Hermantown as their next build) Interestingly, for those who talked about the Mills family and Home of Economy handshake deal years ago.......my friend says that since they got the word on Fleet Farm, they were asked to basically do the same thing for the Home of Economy. He said HOE is planning to build a new, large store on the south end of GF and turn the north end location into staging and storage area for their stores. So, maybe that "family agreement" is still in effect. If this rumor doesn't come true I'll stop listening to my him

Come on, only my wife can call me completely wrong. I probably should have said "in comparison to Tim and Pat, Dan had almost no local connection". At the time those final 3 were interviewed, Tim and Pat had been living and working in Grand Forks for over 30 years. Doing play by play of UND games, doing UND coach's shows, reporting on UND sports, all while residing in Grand Forks as UND guys. For over 3 decades. Meanwhile, Dan was a Fargo guy. Had never lived in Grand Forks before. Had never done a UND coach's show. Had way less overall colllege sports play by play experience than the other 2. That's what surprised Pat when he lost out on the job. What does "LOCAL input from the community" even mean? Did Midco poll 20 people? 100 people? The local media and UND folks I know, consider Dan a downgrade from Pat in both his play by play call and also in terms of UND knowledge. And, most local fans I've talked to still consider Dan both a "Fargo guy" and a downgrade. Midco made a business decision hiring Dan, all I was saying was I surprised by it, and so was Pat. Maybe you care to explain what "LOCAL input from the community" means and how that factored into hiring a Fargo guy over long term, local UND guys.

Agreed............ I worked with Pat for his first 12 years at 'DAZ. He told me that he, Hammer and Tim Hennessy were the final 3 for the Midco job at the time. He couldn't understand why 2 local, "UND guys" were bypassed for a Fargo guy. I told him it was because a South Dakota based company didn't understand or care about the importance of a local connection. On another note, Rob Horken isn't be the one making any decision about eliminating newscasts, or any future one about dropping local sports. Those type of decisions always have and always will be made in Fargo, despite resistance from WDAZ management. Rob just has the fun job of delivering the news to people and carrying out the orders. Agree..... The difference for the ladies this year was the huge upgrade at the guard position from the previous year. Similar to what the Men needed (and still need) on the inside. I thought every BSC team had at least one or 2 decent, blue collar big men. Guys who weren't fancy but were physically solid and worked hard at their role of rebounding, defense and basic big man-back-to-the-basket moves. Similar to what Brekke gave us....and I went into the season hoping that Calc and Salmonson could be those types of players. I was amazed at how little they brought. They both continually got out-physicalled and seemed lost on defense and boxing out. I hate to say it, but I don't think either of them are legitimate D1 big men. If you add Traylor, Calcaterra and Salmonson's season rebounding totals together, Huff by himself had about 20 more than those 3 "bigs" combined. I know some on here like to call out Huff. He was our scoring leader, our rebounding leader and our steals leader, playing hard defense and putting his light frame up against much bigger people on the boards all year. The tragedy of this Senior class was we couldn't put a capable big man out there much of the time. It sure showed once again last night.

Bailey had 33 points last night leading Fergus Falls (29-1) past Albany by 27 points and make it to the MN 3A State tourney. Should be a very nice addition to the UND ladies next year.
