  1. Like to see similar survey on the purchase of new logo wear. Doesn't matter what it is I'm not buying it - not out of spite just can't see myself ever being anything but a Fighting Sioux. No matter what it is sales will never be what they were - just won't have the nationwide appeal that we had with Fighting Sioux and the logo.
  2. There are already empty seats down south - quite sure I could get a ticket to a game there once deer season start. I don't really see the value of all your negative posts doesn't change anything doesn't create any kind of positive dialogue but it's a free country just hope you don't walk around with the same kind of attitude. Life's too short find something to enjoy about the season and life.
  3. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/local/3871006-former-bismarck-mayor-registers-words-trademarks-stop-und-nickname-vote This is just embarassing for the guy - he unfortunately must be facing some Alzheimer's issues that are clouding his judgement. He was a Jessie Ventura type politician in his day rallied the good old boys and got elected Bismarck Mayor and then stumbled through his tenure. The picture is at least 20 years old i would put him in his 70s.
  4. Is this from the same office that said "We might add "just North Dakota" back to the list?
  5. I've always wondered how it was determined that "FIghting Hawks" fit the original criteria that was laid out for the committee and how not one person on the committee ever asked that question.
  6. It's always a guessing game - you have to watch for the bus to pull up and with the student buses you never know. This is an opportunity for the Athletic Department to start a new tradition - blow some kind of horn when the team buses are coming so everyone knows to go line up - perhaps it could soon be a hawk screaming (god I hope not).
  7. Sure would be nice if there were more fans standing in the line cheering as the team walks from the bus to the Alerus - but that will come too.
  8. More likely those 60,000 don't care - just like our national elections.
  9. Who does Kelly answer to? If he is making these knee-jerk decisions on his own then for the first time ever I'm willing to question UNDs leadership. If he is making these knee-jerk decisions with input from others then I have to question who the "Others" are and why someone in the room isn't questioning the decisions. (the sad thing is it's probably our highly paid east coast consultants.)
  10. Just some personal reflections: Fighting Hawks: 6,960 votes; 31.20 percent, as we have heard primarily students who mistakenly believe that the hawk logo that is circulating will be the new logo. Also they love the name because they figure they can scream "Sioux" whenever the announcer says "Fighting....Hawks" Also a #2 option for the tree-huggers and liberals since it can offend no one. Roughriders: 4,687 votes; 21.01 percent: not going to change their vote, only hope for this name is that the sleeping giant is woken up and realizes they will be stuck with Fighting Hawks unless they do something. Nodaks: 4,571 votes; 20.49 percent: not going to change their vote, few outstaters will change their vote to this because they can't relate to the history or the state personally, funny I have yet to talk with someone who was born in North Dakota that see Nodaks as a slur. North Stars: 3,231 votes; 14.48 percent: Gotta be clue-less to pick a name that is synonymous with the state of Minnesota. I also see a majority of them moving to Fighting Hawks once again because it is the least offensive. Sundogs: 2,858 votes; 12.81 percent: these are the tree-huggers, liberal professors and those who are easily entertained that "UND" is ACTUALLY in the name. I would bet that a high percentage of these people won't bother to vote for any of the three finalists but those that do will go Fighting Hawks because it's the least likely to "Offend" someone. So the reality is the highly paid consultants from the east coast will win and accomplish their job which was to make sure that UND ended up with a safe (not unqiue, not creative) new nickname.
  11. Well just like Kelly I'm allowed to change my mind aren't I.
  12. Based on work in corporate America I would not be surprised if the announcement on Monday is to let everyone know when the announcement will be. It's much more than just announcing the results, especially since it's a totally different message if there was a 50% majority vs the two top names. There is so much more to this then Kelly walking up to a podium opening an envelope and saying "The winner is..." Once again on social media they will be damned if they do and damned if they don't.
  13. Gotta share - because of where we live I was able to take my daughter to the UND/SCSU hockey game on Saturday (she was willing and eager but also asked if she could bring a book :). She instantly noticed there were more Sioux fans than Husky fans in the small crowd. So at her first college hockey game she witnessed: 1. a natural hat trick (unfortunately it was a SCSU player) 2. The UND goalie being pulled with 7 minutes left in the game. 3. 3 missed shots on an empty net by SCSU 4. UND scoring 3 times in the last 7 minutes to tie the score, the last goal coming with 11 seconds left. 5. UND fans taking over another road arena (okay it was small in scale but it happened). 6. Overtime 7. A shoot-out Unfortunately UND lost the shootout but I pointed out that she witnessed at least 4 aspects of hockey that are extremely rare. Oh and she never opened that book.
  14. I'm not a nah-sayer and am in for the long haul but there are very few games this year where I felt that UND had the better quarterback on the field. Do I think Studs can lead us in the future - yes but we do need an upgrade at that position either through development or talent. I am on board that we are in year two of rebuilding the program and we are headed in the right direction.
  15. We just pick a nickname - ignore it and keep cheering Let's Go Sioux and "the home of the Sioux" - nothing the NCAA can do about it. With no nickname the NCAA said they would do something about it. How ever I've already felt people looking at me when I cheer "Let's go Sioux" at basketball and football games. Of course they are the people who don't cheer at all.
  16. Before anybody gets excited about Ben stepping up and creating another masterpiece logo I wonder if he is even interested. Where does he stand on the nickname issue - is he angry that UND is retiring it or is he glad that the name is gone and wasn't the reason he was even interested in making the Sioux logo because of his native american heritage (and wasn't it Ralph that paid for the logo)? He might not be interested in creating a logo for a roughrider or Nodak. Plus knowing what a lightning rod anything new is going to be he might not want to deal with the hostility.
  17. What's the point - if you hate Nodaks than any reason given you won't be able to accept.
  18. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/3864349-und-nickname-vote-bumpy-start-some Talk about stretching to find a storyline - 100 issues on the first day with 82000 potential voters is .0001% - that is considered a bumpy start by the Herald - I wonder if they hold themselves to the same standard? I can just hear the editor admonishing the reporter to "Find an angle"...and geez if you didn't take the time to confirm your email address in advance I have no sympathy for you there was plenty of time and plenty of information shared on how to make sure you were going to get to vote. It's just idiotic for someone to go on record in a newspaper complaining that not getting the email was UNDs fault.
  19. Hmmm, I've never heard of Marquette being threatened with a forfeit if players show up with any Warrior icons on them at a NCAA tournament like UND was. Wondering if there has ever been an attempt to ban people from wearing "Warrior" clothing on campus. And don't those fans know that if they support "Marquette" only they are damaging their school and cheating their athletes out of a nickname?
  20. Says the troll who spends more time on a UND fan board then he does anything else.
  21. Do we know for a fact that Joe is 100%? I agree with the position that this offense was build around a running quarterback - before the season started our #1 receiver from last year was a walk-on. We don't have many weapons for a passing game right now and teams know they don't need a running game to beat us.
  22. This is often a suggestion but the reality is it's a no win situation. If you don't get something you like you are stuck picking one (sound familiar) Also it's considered "cheap" because companies do it to avoid paying professional designers. This is too important to not go with professionals (IMO).
  23. Going through life worried about what other people think is stupid and hick.
  24. Kind of a stretch in logic I think, Nodaks is a part of UND's history, it's already been used on team jerseys, I like Roughriders too but I had to choose - I see no need to diss any of the other names to make me feel better about my choice.
  25. I'm on board for Nodaks.I was in the Roughrider camp because of the connection to the state (Roughrider Award, The Roughrider State) but now I'm agreeing that Nodaks is really the only truly unique name that no other school has. As far as what the icon will be that matches the name I'll leave that to the creative experts. I really don't buy into the "but other schools will make fun of us if we choose this name" thinking because any name is open to that. And the reality is whatever name is chosen will grow on us so all those who don't like Nodaks will eventually get over it. I do think it will be a long time until you no longer hear or see "Fighting Sioux" at games. I also know that like many I have enough Fighting Sioux stuff that I have no need/desire to invest in a new wardrobe with a name that I can't relate to. Doesn't mean I won't support the school but it won't be by spending my dollars on the new nickname. I really don't think there will be high voter participation. If you think about alumni and students a majority went to UND for their education and have no interest.in sports.
