  1. I just think hanging up on a Herald reporter and flat out refusing to talk simply breeds speculation as to what's going on, thereby creating PR which is at least as bad, if not worse than any alleged health department issues (which may or may not even be factual--at this point we don't know). If there are, in fact plans to re-open, it seems reasonable to simply say to the media: "repairs/renovations are being made, and we expect to re-open in X weeks." The way it was handled suggests they have something to hide, and/or they're permanently closed. EDIT: A more detailed Herald article has now been posted, confirming the health department issues due to a leaky roof: http://www.grandfork...icle/id/236146/
  2. I hope it does re-open, but this Herald article makes it sound like nobody wanted to comment--why so secretive if it is just an issue with a leaky roof?: http://www.grandfork...icle/id/236146/
  3. I must admit I wasn't a frequent visitor, but this is kind of sad given how long they had been in business.
  4. Agreed--SCSU has shown they are quite willing to drop football.
  5. I think both UMD and GVSU place too high of a priority on football to go dI and join the Summit unless there's a guarantee the MVFC would take them, too. I suspect the Summit needs to focus on prospective members without football, or who are willing to drop football a la UNO.
  6. So if Oakland and IUPUI bolt for the Horizon, what's the Summit's next move? Besides Chicago State, it doesn't seem like they have many options.
  7. The odd thing is that according to Vandrovec, not all SDSU coaches were even aware of this policy, at least before today. Since nothing has even been discussed internally at SDSU about UND and the nickname in the past several months (per Sell), it's unclear why this issue even came up today.
  8. Traylor has signed: http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=205422355
  9. It's not cancelled, according to a tweet by Terry Vandrovec. SDSU plans on honoring existing contracts.
  10. While the secondary is fairly inexperienced, I agree with the assessment of geaux_sioux that things probably appeared worse than what they really are in the spring game due to the fact that unlike past years where is it was just offense vs. defense, this year there were two presumably evenly-split teams. So at no point did we see the starting secondary playing together. Daryl Brown is a potential star, and Mersereau is a freakishly good athlete, so we're already halfway to a pretty solid secondary. I suspect we still may see a transfer or two at the safety positions if the staff isn't completely confident that some of the younger players can get the job done in the fall. The bottom line is that while it would probably be overstating things to say this group will necessarily be one of the team's strengths, I do expect that Boyd and whomever else will be coaching the secondary this fall will have them ready to play at a higher level than what we've seen the past few years.

  12. Benton is getting Mitchell's scholarship. 11 of the 13 scholies will be tied up in the junior and senior classes next year. Kind of an odd situation, to say the least.
  13. Per Edgy Tim, three more Illinois offers this weekend--DE's Grant Bartell and Evan Panfil from Lincoln Way Central, and RB Omar Stover from Bollingbrook. Also, UND has reportedly offered Buckeye (AZ) LB DeAndre Miller.
  14. Frydenlund and Roehrich have left the team: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/234177/group/Sports/
  15. Here's something you rarely see--Jeff Kolpack being critical of NDSU. He just tweeted that the only reason NDSU released the info regarding the Dorn suspension is because WDAY found out about it.
  16. Not related to the topic of this thread, but Montana native Ryan Leaf is back in the news: http://www.grandfork...group/homepage/ For some odd reason, the movie "The Longest Yard" comes to mind...
  17. My struggle with Goodman is whether he realistically has a chance to recover enough to play next year. If so, fine. If not, I'm not sure he warrants a fifth year on scholarship any moreso than Ashley Privatsky did on the women's team, who I believe got four years despite also being injured basically her entire career.
  18. It's unfortunate that the scholarship distribution among the classes is so out of balance. It's not going to be solved this year, as even if some of the seniors-to-be don't return, those scholarships will likely go to juco players, which will make the junior class even larger.
  19. Per Dom Izzo, UND has received a commitment from Mia Loyd of Minneapolis DeLaSalle.
  20. UND's pass rush and run defense were very good last year. In his co-coordinator role, Mannausau is responsible for the front seven. From the outside looking in, it would seem he must be doing a pretty good job.
  21. Wayne Nelson just indicated on the Herald's live chat that Kelling was not at the first practice on Monday, and that an official announcement of his status could come this week.
  22. Spring prospectus/roster: https://www.nmnathletics.com//pdf8/834980.pdf?ATCLID=205402107&SPSID=58640&SPID=6399&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=13500
  23. There is some speculation in the comments section of the most recent blog entry at SFI that Mussman's tweet may be related to a locker room/meeting room renovation at Memorial Stadium.
  24. Am I imagining things, or didn't there used to be only one or two "play-in" game(s)--to determine who was a 16-seed? I kind of miss the "good old days" when there were 64 teams, period.
  25. No. I'm going to speculate that some kind of big news happened yesterday, but the actual announcement of it will come from the athletic department in the near future rather than from Mussman himself?
