Week 2: Potato Bowl 2012 - UND vs. Portland State

The 2001 defense made a lot of good offensive players appear pretty ordinary. Remember J.T. O'Sullivan? He carved out a fairly lengthy NFL quarterback career. But he couldn't get UC-Davis into the endzone against UND. Also, SDSU's Josh Ranek was held under 100 yards at the Alerus in 2001. -

Agree that time will tell on Adams. I think my opinion on him is a little skewed by the fact that despite the 11 td's while at Maryland his freshman year, he only gained a little over 200 yards, and then barely played at all his sophomore year. But if he can put together several more performances this year similar to what he did at the Alerus, then clearly he's the real deal. -
With this year's passing offense? No.

As much as it pains me to say, I'll go with Lamar Gordon. Even though he never had much success against UND, he was a third round NFL draft pick, which in and of itself is pretty impressive. -
I'm definitely not saying he is the commitment, because I have no idea, but I believe Jordan Hein was on an unofficial visit to UND this weekend. Not sure how many others may have been, also.

Per a Kotelnicki tweet, it sounds like there was a commitment over the weekend.

I still struggle with the question of whether it was the transition in general, or specifically the Sioux Falls game from 2009. I tend to think it was primarily the latter, and unfortunately we haven't completely recovered yet in terms of interest by the casual fan. -
Schobert made the Wisconsin travel squad, too. I'm watching Wisconsin at Oregon St. right now and he is on the punt return team.

I doubt either of them would have picked UND even with a healthy Hanson. -

It will be very interesting to see what Golladay can do. I don't know how fair of a comparison this is, but I keep thinking of Travis Lueck and Tracy Martin (for those who can remember that far back) as the only comparable combinations of size and speed at the receiver position at UND. -

If Hanson is done for the season, then I think the decision to pull a red shirt becomes much tougher. But so long as it's reasonably likely that he'll be back within a month (and Hendrickson remains healthy), they aren't going to waste a year of eligibility just so Mollberg or Bartels can play a game or two or three.
-
I respectfully disagree. I see Fritz at SFI agrees with me, too.
-
Blair Townsend threw for 30 td's his senior year at Coon Rapids, and ran for nine more. While it would be asking a lot to potentially step in at quarterback after not having played the position for four years, I think he's the best option to back up Hendrickson.
-
Hendrickson's best asset is arguably his ability to run. That goes out the window when you're one hit away from having to pull a redshirt.
-
Losing Hanson for even one game could be a big problem.

Just saw on twitter than Dom Izzo picked UND to go 4-7 this year.

Very disturbing allegations involving MSU-Mankato head football coach Todd Hoffner, an Esmond (ND) native: http://mankatofreepress.com/local/x257412394/Update-MSU-football-coach-Todd-Hoffner-arrested

The quarterback recruiting in the five or six years after Landry signed has seemingly been cursed. I think this last recruiting class will pan out, but with Demler, Comes, Bradley and at least one year with no qb signees at all, it just hasn't worked out. If it weren't for Goska's late season emergence as a fifth-year senior, it would be even more glaring.
-
Hypothetically speaking, if circumstances required UND to play a third quarterback this year, which would you choose to do if you were Muss--take the redshirt off one of the true freshman, or put either Nichols or Townsend under center? I would choose Townsend, considering the depth at receiver and his high school qb career. I'd hate to waste a year of eligibility of one of the freshman.
