The only caveat is that Wagner took over again once he was healthy. I don't think there's been a freshman who actually won the starting job (as opposed to taking over after the starter was injured), at least not since I've been following UND football.

Not UND-related, but could possibly have some impact on recruiting in the state of Wisconsin--Brett Bielema is reportedly leaving the Badgers for Arkansas. EDIT: Already talk of Paul Chryst possibly leaving Pitt to return to Wisconsin, which may result in Brooks Bollinger also returning to Madison.

In the late 1970's, the WAC had Arizona, Arizona St., BYU and Utah, among other fairly big names. Now it has Grand Canyon, UT-Pan American, Utah Valley and Chicago St. Crazy.

All characters appearing in my hypothetical were fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. And no, I definitely wasn't referring to Lennon or anything that may or may not have happened while he was at UND.

A hypothetical: You are the head coach, Coach A is a coordinator, and Coach B is a position coach on the same side of the ball as Coach A. You see, or should see that even though Coach B occupies a lower position on the staff, he is a future star in the profession. Do you 1) keep things as they are for the following season, knowing that may cause you to lose Coach B to a higher-paying job sooner; or 2) promote Coach B over Coach A, knowing that may cause some hard feelings?

It's a tough situation for MSU no matter what they do. Keen has now led them to an undefeated regular season, and a trip to the semi finals. He may very well lead MSU to its first national championship. If MSU doesn't retain him as head coach, chances are pretty good he'll take a head coaching job elsewhere.

I vaguely remember Kelderman. I seem to recall him playing when Dorso was injured, but not sure about that.

Don't have a picture, but Izzo confirmed via tweet last night:
-
DeHoff is in her fifth season, and is seven games under .500 for her career. I would agree that she's probably on pretty thin ice right now.

I'm pretty sure Northcountry's post was intended as sarcasm.

Hopefully SDSU and UND will be playing in GF next year. Without Wolters and with UND returning virtually everybody, I would like UND's chances. You'd think Nagy would have learned a little more humility considering his awful record in SDSU's first six years as a division I program (60-119).

I don't think anybody is really arguing that Jones should go. But there's not really any getting around the fact that his future may depend on how this class performs the rest of this season, and next season. After next year, it's going to be an almost completely new team, and if Jones' career winning percentage is comparable to what it is now, that's probably not going to be good enough to extend his contract again IMO.
-
I assume he's being recruited as an athlete rather than a quarterback, but I don't know at which position he's projected. OLB or safety perhaps?
-
UND offeree Jordan Hein of Perham has been named first team all state at quarterback by the AP. Nice honor.
-
I'm not going to judge Jones' performance so far, but he's currently 87-100 in year seven. And virtually the entire roster will turn over after next season. I believe there's a fair amount of pressure to do reasonably well this season.
-
While I believe it's far too early to judge Brewster as a head coach, I also don't believe it's accurate to simply chalk up the current struggles to being an inevitable byproduct of the division I transition. SDSU and Florida Gulf Coast both managed to come out of the transition very nicely, and neither entered their transition with UND's pedigree as a longtime (20-plus years) dII superpower. Coming out of the transition with a good team can be done. UND just didn't do it as successfully as some other programs for whatever reason.
-
One thing to keep in mind is that several of UND's better players missed too much time (or were too hobbled when they did play) to be seriously considered for all-conference honors, such as Kleason, Goodman, Daryl Brown and McGill.
-
FWIW, her bio at undsports.com says she scored 20.6 ppg as a senior.
-
I believe the only players on the roster who could possibly have been considered big scorers at the high school level (20+ ppg in at least one season) are Smart and Houdek, and the caliber of their competition had something to do with the high school scoring of both. When you are constantly recruiting players who scored 8-14 ppg at the high school level, it's probably not a big surprise that they struggle to score at this level. In terms of recruiting offensive talent, it's been a slow but steady decline since the Langen-Kimbrough years.

38 UND 64 Duquesne final. UND beat Duquesne at home last year. And this marks the second time in three games that UND has failed to score 40 points.
-
Exactly. To me, that is why the 100 mile radius policy is so incredibly flawed.
-
How's this for irony? The Big Ten is reportedly targeting North Carolina (and Kansas) as its 15th and 16th members. Kill must be terriified!
-
Yes. And the latter two are presumably walk-ons, so clearly there's a lot of recruiting to be done in the next couple of years.

Hardin is UND's only first or second team selection. He was named to the first team: http://bigskyconf.com/news/2012/11/20/FB_1120124011.aspx

I'm not sure it was ever mentioned on this board. It was in this game article from the Crown College game last week: http://www.grandfork...ublisher_ID/40/
