It's interesting that Bob Nielson of UMD is a finalist for the Western Illinois job.
  2. Sounds like Schleusner got another commitment today, per a Mannausau tweet.
  3. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall Childress made the decision to draft T-Jack, whereas Spielman made the decision to draft Ponder. I kind of want to give Frazier the benefit of the doubt that he's just carrying out orders in continuing to start Ponder despite all the evidence that the guy is not an NFL quarterback. Frazier doesn't strike me as being anywhere near as stubborn and hard-headed as Childress.
  4. One thing I'd like to see change with regard to basketball scheduling is to get USD back on the schedule every year. Assuming we continue to also play the xDSU's every year, that should ensure that there's always at least one home non-conference game vs. a traditional rival. Unfortunately, it worked out this year that UND played at both Brookings and Fargo, and so there's something of a void in the home non-conference schedule.
  5. Congrats to Greg Hardin for being named third team All American by the Sports Network.
  6. This is a pretty good group of juniors, but their road record is simply terrible. With today's loss, it's now 5-30 (.143). For his career, Jones is now 19-71 on the road (.211).
  7. Kuksa and Norberg were both scheduled to visit this weekend per SFI.
  8. True, although I believe he's projected to play defense in college--either OLB or safety (according to the SFI tweet, anyway).
  9. Jake Disterhaupt from Moose Lake/Willow River (MN) has committed to UND per SFI.
  10. The only caveat is that Wagner took over again once he was healthy. I don't think there's been a freshman who actually won the starting job (as opposed to taking over after the starter was injured), at least not since I've been following UND football.

Not UND-related, but could possibly have some impact on recruiting in the state of Wisconsin--Brett Bielema is reportedly leaving the Badgers for Arkansas. EDIT: Already talk of Paul Chryst possibly leaving Pitt to return to Wisconsin, which may result in Brooks Bollinger also returning to Madison.
  12. In the late 1970's, the WAC had Arizona, Arizona St., BYU and Utah, among other fairly big names. Now it has Grand Canyon, UT-Pan American, Utah Valley and Chicago St. Crazy.

All characters appearing in my hypothetical were fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. And no, I definitely wasn't referring to Lennon or anything that may or may not have happened while he was at UND.

A hypothetical: You are the head coach, Coach A is a coordinator, and Coach B is a position coach on the same side of the ball as Coach A. You see, or should see that even though Coach B occupies a lower position on the staff, he is a future star in the profession. Do you 1) keep things as they are for the following season, knowing that may cause you to lose Coach B to a higher-paying job sooner; or 2) promote Coach B over Coach A, knowing that may cause some hard feelings?
  15. It's a tough situation for MSU no matter what they do. Keen has now led them to an undefeated regular season, and a trip to the semi finals. He may very well lead MSU to its first national championship. If MSU doesn't retain him as head coach, chances are pretty good he'll take a head coaching job elsewhere.
  16. I vaguely remember Kelderman. I seem to recall him playing when Dorso was injured, but not sure about that.
  17. Don't have a picture, but Izzo confirmed via tweet last night:
  18. DeHoff is in her fifth season, and is seven games under .500 for her career. I would agree that she's probably on pretty thin ice right now.
  19. I'm pretty sure Northcountry's post was intended as sarcasm.
  20. Hopefully SDSU and UND will be playing in GF next year. Without Wolters and with UND returning virtually everybody, I would like UND's chances. You'd think Nagy would have learned a little more humility considering his awful record in SDSU's first six years as a division I program (60-119).
  21. I don't think anybody is really arguing that Jones should go. But there's not really any getting around the fact that his future may depend on how this class performs the rest of this season, and next season. After next year, it's going to be an almost completely new team, and if Jones' career winning percentage is comparable to what it is now, that's probably not going to be good enough to extend his contract again IMO.
  22. I assume he's being recruited as an athlete rather than a quarterback, but I don't know at which position he's projected. OLB or safety perhaps?
  23. UND offeree Jordan Hein of Perham has been named first team all state at quarterback by the AP. Nice honor.
  24. I'm not going to judge Jones' performance so far, but he's currently 87-100 in year seven. And virtually the entire roster will turn over after next season. I believe there's a fair amount of pressure to do reasonably well this season.
