Conditioning seems to have taken a new prominence with younger coaches like Blais, Lucia, Sandelin, etc., as opposed to "old schoolers" like Sertich and Sauer. Year-round conditioning has been a hallmark of the NHL for years, witness the number of guys still playing in their late 30s or more. So it would seem natural that it woud also appear in college and HS hockey to varying degrees. I would submit, at least from what I've heard/read, that off-season/pre-season dryland conditioning is stressed more in the WCHA than in the eastern leagues.

Pretty interesting comments. It sounds like the team may have a few rough spots early on until things get settled, e.g., electing captains. However, I would expect Lundbohm to probably end up wearing a letter. It does bother me that Ryan Hale wasn't mentioned as a leader as he wore the "C" last season. Perhaps a changing of the guard is on the horizon. I wouldn't worry about Smaby too much. He's going to hit the learning curve on play and conditioning just like everybody else does, including Parise.

Agreed. Since "context" is an issue, and boards are not really the best places to disseminate a great deal of information, I really doubt Greyeagle came here to make trouble. He asked a reasonable question based on the information provided.

Couple of things: Nick Fuher is a d-man, unless something's changed. So he won't be fighting for a spot on a line. If anything, he'll probably be paired with Marvin or Foyt. Smaby is an excellent d-man, who can also play the puck. He was sort of poo-pooed by a few in the POI crowd, but he has the potential to make a big impact on both ends. I hope Greene settles down and plays more disciplined hockey. I would expect a year in the WCHA and a few "chats" from the coaches may help. I tend to disagree with the Sioux "taking care of business". If we had, we would have throttled a few more WCHA teams and Ferris Wheel State towards the end.

Tie is one of my favorite enforcers, especially since Tony Twist. (Kind of reminds of the fond days of Eades and Archibald ... ) I found the pic doing a GIS, not sure who's getting schooled. But unfortunately that's the best resolution for that avatar ... dammit. I found another one where Tie is getting his lunch handed to him by a Dallas Star. Maybe I'll bring it up this season.

Why do we need an f'ing mascot? I can see the PC nazis getting in a lather over this, regardless of the animal. (Indian=Animal) Christ, that's the same logic they used with Blunder the Bleacher Creature. Whomever thought this is a good idea should be beaten bloody with a hockey stick.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good screwup from the Minnesota Jr. a/k/a (duh)UMD crowd.
-
I think the last time Ferris showed up, we beat them pretty soundly and Jason Blake saw the error of his ways. And quite frankly, I doubt too many people would put themselves out to see Ferris, unless they were coming off a Title season.

I vaguely recall that Michigan seldom plays NC games away from home due to the fact they are a "marquee" name, except for certain tourneys. That said, I'd love to see the Wolverines and UND schedule a 2-2 deal some day in the future. Other teams ... any of the Ivies, BU, Michigan State, Notre Dame, UNO and/or Ohio State.

Looks like Roche has made "the cut" so far. Good luck Travis, and keep up the hard work or it's back to "H". Strib

If people are making around $20000 a year with a family of four, perhaps they should find a different job or get themselves fixed rather than going to a football game.

Since the Wild-Blues game is an NHL event, it's likely that there is no age-based pricing for the game. Season tickets at the X are not sold on age, but occasionally they do sell blocks of single game tickets at disount prices to schools, youth teams, etc. However, you may want to call REA just to make sure you don't get screwed over by Ticketbastard.

As much as I beat up on INCH as a tabloid, it is nice to have another outlet for college hockey. If they had a paper version, I'd never have to buy toilet paper again. Besides, they probably get most of their hockey info from USCHO and team boards ... Now, if they only had a bulletin board ... FWIW: I worry less about UND's goalie issues than I do about other facets of their game and the team in general. But whatever gets certain clowns through the night.

Gee, "Cryin' Jim" McKenzie, a white, liberal academic feels badly about 'SU being made fun of. Wait until they get their asses handed to them at D1. Maybe Cryin' Jim should grow a spine and stop being the bottom in life. Quite possibly the most idiotic rant I've seen from him in awhile, which says a great deal. The mere fact that the editoral board of the Hurled allows this clown to continually pound on the name issue, while giving them props for "courage" in publishing an AP article, shows that these "guys" sit around stroking each other and crying into their wine spritzers about the wicked, cruel world around them. I suppose with Ralph gone the white liberal set at UND will be hard-pressed to shake their little fists at anybody in particular except their own employer. Then again, if these dinks had an iota of the morality they speak of, they would not perpetuate such a "perversity" of ethics by continuing to provide their services to such an evil place.

Unless you've missed the patently obvious, this is a UND forum. There are no requirements that we have to be nice to other schools or their fans. I'm sure if all three SDSU backers of a D1 move were upset like dear Clair, they could log in and post rambling illucid rants in their own defense too. However, I'm sure the SDSU fans appreciate the largess of the Stream Yellow rabble in coming to their defense with their own myopic "logic".
-
I'm not worried about UND's eventual move to D1. We have the facilities, or will have soon, the money, the support and the network to play other sports through a number of D1 hockey schools. In the interim, it will be nice to watch the Stream Yellow crowd complain because they have to play the majority of games on the road, see if FedEx or Greyhound will ship them to some god-awful part of Utah or California, beg the state for money, jack their students with higher fees and generally watch a "0" gather dust in the W column for years. Best of all, UND didn't have to pay for consultants who were conveniently ignored when their reports didn't mesh with the MJ haze wafting across University Avenue N. Fun times, indeed.

If the FloodDome is busy, maybe the Red River can be cleared off. skateshattrick: The only reason there is a hockey following in F-M, having grown up there and played HS & amatuer hockey there, is because of UND, and probably Moorhead having strong hockey programs. 'SU has never helped the cause and the sport was effectively given over to GF in favor of FB and BB by FPS long ago. Occasionally, one of the Fargo schools makes a decent run, but as Dan Irmen and a few others can attest, you have to go elsewhere to really do well. That said, I hope the new NAHL program actually takes off and people show up to support it ... but the odds are pretty slim IMO.

St. Thomas can raise money in a hurry if it wanted to modernize/expand its facilities. However, expansion is pretty much hemmed in by the Summit neigborhood. They raised $250M in less than a year, when the U barely raised $50M in the same timeframe, so money probably isn't an issue and they work their network like magic. There is a great deal of talk around MSP about the Tommies going D1 at some point, and Mark Dienhart formerly of the U is running a good part of the show. With its grad/professional programs it has an enrollment of about 11000 or so. Undergrad is around 5000. I think they'd make a great fit, but I think they'll wait and see how the NCC finally shakes out, e.g., if UND and some others don't finally march off to D1 land at some point.
-
I thought they would just flood the FloodDome, voluntarily this time, and play there, as it will be the only time real D1 teams show up there in any capacity. After all, there's a huge hockey following in Fargo, according to the Forum while neglecting to note the dead USHL and other hockey teams from Fargo's past. Aside: God I love that green-faced smilie.
-
You confuse "legitimate concern" with "pointing and laughing". UND has a valid concern with regard to any financial issues 'SU has in going D1. If the numbers don't reach the rose-colored projections Carr et al. have dreamed up, Chaps will probably go "hat in hand" to Bismarck. With regard to SDSU, that's SoDak's deal.
-
Lundbohm is definitely a guy we need to step up and produce, as well as show his leadership. It sounds like he's pretty focused. I hope the rest of the team is too.
-
The Wild is (are?) definitely high on Roche. They've taken alot of time to develop him and it seems like its paying off for him. I think he has a very good chance to start this season. I honestly used to *hate* McAlpine when he was at Minnie. A very good, aggressive player, who tended to make the Sioux look worse than they were. Was there another McAlpine besides Chris around that same time?
-
Screw the Hobey, although I generally agree with their roster. But I'd rather have a few more Title banners in the rafters.
-
As long as he doesn't piddle on the floor or on himself, like most UMD fans, he's more than welcome back.

One of you is loaded, that's for sure ...
