  1. I'm older, and, certainly, more cynical than most posts might suggest. Unlike some, I don't allow sophomoric whining to get in the way of economic reasoning, or a damn good pricing disparity between a company's book value and its underlying assets. Besides, I'm not "brash", but rather exceedingly confident. Besides, if anybody takes what's posted here too seriously, they have only themselves to blame for their own problems. Things change over time, except for my undying loathing for that junior college in Fargo.
  2. I think a better approach might be to get Sensor's or somebody to fork over the money for a digital feed in return for the alumni association hosting Sioux hockey, and probably Sioux-Bison, games on a regular basis, provided the Bison rivalry continues beyond this season. Trying to get an additional network on cable or satellite takes a lot of $$$ and some serious heft. Case in point: The Pohlad/Twins' Victory Sports Channel has yet to make it on to any of the major, local cable/satellite carriers, e.g., Time Warner, Comcast, Charter, etc. It's been signed to one or two smaller carriers, but that's about it right now. Victory will only pay X per subscriber, while the big carriers want Y. (Same crap that kept FSN off Time Warner for most of last hockey season .... ) That may change as baseball season looms, but it demonstrates the financial issues that under lie every decision programmers make.
  3. Like Greene needs a helmet anyway ...
  4. Your "moral" judgments, and your assignments of my posts as "judgemental and condescending, not to mention downright rude, arrogant, and offensive" have little bearing on whether people do in fact have choices in whether they fork over money for a game, let alone plop out kids. Moreover, you call people names for making choices you cannot or will not make with regard to spending their own money. Enjoy the game from your abode this weekend, and remember to shake your fist at the cruel fates and choices which allow others to attend. Maybe read some Studds Terkel or Eugene Debbs for inspiration at half-time. I'm done with you.
  5. "[Y]ou start judging others by how much they earn or how much they're willing to spend, that's where you cross the line and become an elitist snob."-DaveK Case closed.
  6. Your own quotes: "If I was just a single guy going to the game I could easily fork over the $27.50 for a ticket, but it's a different story to bring a wife and three kids." " I'm sorry, Madison Avenue, but there isn't enough room in this world for everybody to be big-shot movers and shakers such as yourself. Those of us who are making significantly more than $20K per year probably are so wrapped up in their work they don't have much free time to enjoy the money they're making. Give me a mediocre job with a modest income and more free time to spend with my wife and kids." "Sounds like something a snobby rich person would say." Typical, hypocritical whining, I'd say.
  7. Gee, I *almost* feel bad for dropping $100 for one ticket to last Friday's Michigan game, 5th row, 40 yardline on the Blue side too. But I'm sure I'll get over it.
  8. As much as I would have enjoyed going to Sensor's, I had planned to go this weekend until this news, I suspect they will go digital before long, especially as other venues/networks do the same. I agree that UND fans poured a bunch of money into that place, especially for big games/series. I'll call Sensor's later and express my interest in spending some money there. I wonder if Grandma's or the Newsroom are digital. Newsroom has banks of TVs, and I seem to recall they had a number of different college hockey games last year.
  9. A family of four making $20000 annually probably has other needs, e.g., food, shelter, clothing, etc. than worrying if they have to pay $100+ to attend a college football game. Accordingly, people in that position should not be bitching about the price of FB tickets, and rather reexamine their own life choices such as occupation, spending and whether they should be dropping any more kids they probably can't afford. Other animals tend to restrict their reproduction in lean times, but humans keeping plopping out kids regardless and generally look to the rest of society to cover their lazy asses.
  10. I'd guess in most political organizations, using constituents' money to provide tickets or other goodies for the politicos' own use constitutes corruption, or the appearance thereof, but not at 'SU apparently. Moreover, threatening to use, er abuse their power to silence the Spectrum, these dinks have demonstrated a level of arrogance and greed that helps them compensate for their other "inadequacies".
  11. No, just somebody with a different ordering of priorities. Nice try anyway.
  12. Actually, the bear was made into a rug. An "REA-only" promotion or not, it's still a stupid way to incite the PC nazis, not to mention those stylized "Sioux-" concessions being sold.
  13. Knees are weird things. An MCL injury is usually less problematic than an ACL and is often the result of hard contact. I have/had(?) a minor tear in my ACL, and it's more of a rehab issue, e.g., exercises, brace, light skating, etc. than having to go under the knife fortunately. Then again, I had been walking with it for a couple of years or so. If surgery is required they graft tissue on to the liagment, hence the often lengthy rehab, even after scoping. However, there's about a 95% chance a person can return to their normal activities within a year after surgery. I guess athletes enjoy a higher response rate due to overall conditioning. I'm no doctor, nor do I play one on TV or in bars , but I'd *guess* Luck may be smiling on Zach, if he was able to walk/skate and seemed willing to keep playing additional shifts.
  14. Well, this sucks, especially for "non game". Not sure where Hennessy got his information, but a standard MCL sprain generally is less problematic than a tear with a 2-4 week rehab period, unless the ACL went too. Either way, if anything major needs to be done, I'd hope the work is done by people who have a hot clue.
  15. Depends. How much money do you have?
  16. Thanks Pat. Always, nice to hear what's going on in GF. Sometimes ...
  17. I would *guess* that as USCHO became the dominant source for college hockey news, scores, etc. it may have been less compliant with any demands ESPN may have made on its affiliates. Then again, ESPN has demonstrated its ignorance and disdain for college hockey on numerous occasions. INCH is okay, but it's like reading USA Today, you skim it and toss it.

    You're missing a word in there ...
  19. Goalies? We don't need no stinkin' goalies ...
  20. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with Woog's analysis, of UND or the rest of the WCHA. (However, it does appear that in between trips to Stubs he's been reading Happy's posts on USCHO and obviously considers BC to be a "cupcake".) Anyway, one game has not yet settled the goalie issue, and until somebody steps up and takes the job it remains THE big "?" for the team. I agree with Pat about our d-men. A P-Mart or Roche is pretty rare on any team, so you work with what you have and I generally like our blueliners this season.
  21. Here's a link from the Devils' site about the current line-up. Nice job, David, you too PMart. NJD
  22. You might also try USCHO's archives. I vaguely recall that there were a number of links, etc. that gave a good history of the name's origin, meanings, and related info. If possible, you might also try contacting Erik Enno and some other Indians who favor the name. Your prof isn't "Cryin' Jim" McKenzie by any chance?
  23. They supposedly drained and refilled the entire refrigeration system after the summer camps. I know "bad" ice has been a complaint at REA since it opened. Hopefully, they get it squared away in time for the "real" games.
  24. I was going to try to listen to the game, as Dataflix kept getting dragged into my firewall during the free trials, and it sounds like they sucked the wet one tonight. Anyway, the radio feed crapped out too, so I had to go out with the GF and catch scores on my cell phone ... no excuses. Darn. Sounds like a nice first game for the boys. I didn't expect (duh)UMD to rollover with Scottie Sandelin running the show, but it was probably a nice tuneup for both programs. I'm not too surprised JParise got the start, and that he had a nice game. Don't be too surprised about Prpich's fighting skills ... this guy racked up 239 PIM his last season in the BCHL. Should be another fun season in the WCHA.
  25. I would *guess* that Schneider and/or Jones would be likely candidates to leave after this season if their games both improve and the Sioux make some noise deep into March-April. My understanding is that Beaverson has been working hard on his skating and offensive skills to become more a well-rounded threat. Yeah, it really sucks to have a few talented d-men ...
