Ooops. They *should* know better. Anyway, I'm sure Blais will deal with them accordingly, with a benching or extra "attention". If the bar is lucky, they might keep their license ... When I was on campus, it was pretty common for underage players to be in the bars, especially the Antique, and at house parties. Generally, the cops would "look the other way" if the guys were behaving themselves. However, I recall a couple of minor players who got busted for whatever reason, and Gino made them do sprints until they puked.

Frankly, I think anybody who got bent out of shape over that little article, really needs to lighten up a bit. Quite a bit, really.
-
I doubt the author's taking "offense" does not compare to you getting in a huff over a funny piece of work, and then seeing fit to defend yourself here. BTW: Were you the one to get hauled down by the cops?

Not a bad idea, except it would hopelessly confuse SCCC fans, since they've never been on either side.

I've hit the site a few times in the past. It's usually good for a laugh or two. Then again, it never ceases to amaze me how people spend Saturday nights by themselves.

So is the Big 12.

It's probably true. I know FedEx offers preferred customer discounts to its best volume shippers. As well, I believe that Greyhound has those cheap fares they pitch to old ladies looking to see the grandkids in Arizona.

Remember, these are the same, cheap tightasses who complained when UND upped some tickets to $27 and change for the last Nickel game. (It costs about $36 a ticket for a decent seat, face, around here for most Minnesota football games, $100 or more if you go to a scalper for big games. So 'SU D1 pricing is probably go to be higher than $5 or so per ticket, unless you scrimp on the programs.) I can't imagine Chaps & Co. have actually polled people in their target market to see what their max pricing might be. Then again, if they had, they'd probably take another few shots, play with Excel and crunch the numbers to their liking.

"Blunder" was actually "Thunder the Bleacher Creature". He(?) was sponsored by the Letterwinner's Club in the late 80s or so. Anyway, he was a big, stinking green ape with a tongue hanging out that just invited a good yank when he ran around old REA. (Damn costume smelled worse than a hockey bag at the end of the season ... ) Anyway, his emergence started a huge uproar over the Sioux name and logo, and I believe it directly led to the removal of the original Blackhawk logo in favor of "North Dakota" ... later replaced by the geometric design. A big push to change it came during the summer of '89 or '90 when most of the students were away. Terry Wanless, then AD, favored changing the name which created some serious friction with Ralph Engelstad and other alums and basically polarized the two sides to where we sit today. Thus endeth the story, or what I remember of it. Others, if your recollections are more clear, feel free to chime in.

Well, I suppose Chaps would just go "hat in hand" to Bismarck if those financial projections don't pan out. --"Money? We don't need no stinkin' money!" -shameless ripoff of "Blazing Saddles" Afterall, getting $300,000 in FB money to be a punching bag for Nebraska or Minnesota, which is also a big "maybe" on both counts, as I believe Minnie only pays around $225k or maybe $250k, would offset The presumably-defunct Rivalry. This presumes that all 12000 tickets, or whatever would sell out the FloodDome for a UND game, sold for less than $25. Of course, the "Accounting with Beer and Magical Excel Formulas" book that Chaps and the rest of the Stream Yellow crowd have been reading doesn't consider the true costs of half-full houses at the FloodDome watching the Oregon State Institute of Hair Design and Nail Painting some fine autumn afternoon.

And here I thought St. Ben Eaves sacrificed himself to prevent Schneider and the others from getting hurt. Then again, if you play the body against most HE teams, they wilt like some Beacon Hill debutante, and cry like it too. As a BC poster noted on USCHO, BC can be a chippy team, that dives a bit too much. However, I do believe that St. Pat Eaves will "lay hands" on St. Ben Eaves and heal his head injury ... and that should get him ready for the Olympic diving trials. Or maybe the old man will show up and slap the crap out of both of them for being such candy-asses.
-
Given that we were playing the "Number 1" team in BC, and the Eaves' brothers were playing, I think Zach would have played even if his leg had fallen off. I think the week off will help, and would not be surprised to see him playing limited shifts if at all for the Yale series, to make sure he's prime for Minnie. I admire the fact he was able to "gut it out" and still contribute this weekend. Can't imagine he'd go the Devils' camp some day telling Scott Stevens, or even David Hale, that he got benched for a strain. Stevens would probably shoot back some story about how he played a game in juniors after getting his head knocked off, but that it grew back ...

Perhaps Merry should pull her head out of her nether regions. Turner does not own the Braves any longer, or for about the past 7-8 years. They are owned, for now by Time Warner, but I believe they are in the process of being sold, unless the deal is already closed. They still own SI, and I really doubt any magazine is going to skewer a story to appease Ted Turner, possibly the richest liberal in the US, e.g., money to the UN, land conservation, former hubby of Hanoi Jane Fonda (caught doing "The Chop" on film, etc. Moreover, the one-sided, half-assed hatchet jobs Minnesota Monthly and COHE did on Engelstad and UND rank up there with the New Yorker slobbering over Garrison Keilor. As far as "partial" ownership, she may want to ensure that any 401K, pension, etc. funds are not invested in Time Warner on her behalf.
-
Well, more likely, if history is a guide, the issue simmers down, and then some yutz does something to bring the issue to the forefront, e.g., idiotic frat guys doing the "tomahawk chop" to Indian kids, Blunder the Bleacher Creature, morons from opposite teams testing out their graphic design skills, etc. By and large, the name change crowd spends more time preaching to its own small choir than the rest of the world, until somebody does something to "create" the issue, again.

Hale already leads the Devils in PIM @ 7 so far.
-
A little lesson in business, and law, Nancy: The mere fact a contract is offered does not create a duty for the offeree to sign it. In this instance, UND is looking out for its best interests by not signing a contract yet, much as Chaps is looking out for his own by making a unilateral move to D1 without a clue, conference, schedule or anything else. You will never get away from this fact: WE have the Nickel, and YOU have a dark future.
-
I honestly can't believe The Rivalry is so important to the Stream Yellow crowd, as the Fraud writers and the Blundering Turd administration would have people believe. THEY elected to throw it away when THEY opted to go D1AA without a conference, schedule or having read their own consultants' report. Let THEM worry about playing the majority of THEIR teams' games on the road and hosting unknown opponents to half-full houses after forking over serious $$$ to get D1AA opponents to show up. Screw THEM. THEY destroyed The Rivalry with THEIR short-sighted planning and half-assed execution. Let THEM linger in obscurity and 30-70% W/L records. When WE go D1 at some point, WE will do it for the right reasons, not because of a national attention deficit disorder.

I'm fairly certain that if Blais was not happy with the play, hustle, etc. from tonight, and the team will be "addressing" those issues in practice. After coming back last night from a deep hole to beat BC, it's possible the team phoned it in. That attitude will probably result in sprints, running the stairs, etc., either from Blais or the captains.
-
I think it's a bit early to be pressing the "panic button". Afterall, this isn't Canisius or Concordia. A split, even at home, with BC is a pretty decent way to start the season. Anybody who was expecting shootout tonight, esp after last night, probably doensn't pay attention to these things. I agree that the lack of offense, esp on the PP, is a concern, but BC doesn't bring a bunch of cupcakes to the Ralph. We have plenty of time to develop and there's a lot of work to do to get to the Fleet, and I think this series gave the team a good outline of where it needs to work to beat teams like Minnie, UMD, Denver, etc. Then we can beat the Eagles in front of their fans in April, where it really counts and count how many BMWs are driven into the harbor.
-
Agreed. The alumni association sponsors a number of viewing events at Senser's. As well, it's usually pretty easy to find a few Sioux fans on any given night in the Bloomington digs.
-
If they're like typcial BC teams, they will have a tough time getting going if we take the game to them and keep them buried in their own zone. Keeps the pressure on them and increases their shifts. Strong forechecking and a punishing physical game might be enough to make the VEE line play like the EVE line. Our guys have to be up for this one, and I would expect a helluva series. I have to wonder if two consectutive weekends on the road for long distances from home may have an effect on the them, especially this early in the season when their conditioning probably hasn't peaked. Then if an errant marching band decides to practice in their hotel parking lot, oh, say about 4:00 am ... maybe a fire alarm ...
-
Maybe REA could spring a joint sponsorship deal with Linux ...
-
Oh come on. You mean to tell me that Duke, Maryland, etc. won't respect the Stream Yellow BB program? I won't be able to watch them play on network TV on the weekends? Wow. So disappointed ... I'm sure Florida State, Michigan and Nebraska will certainly have respect for the FB program in the next year or two. Are they on the Blundering Turd schedule yet? Does UND even have a chance to maybe schedule a scrimmage in the future?
-
I would hope that Zach's desire to play BC, epecially with the Eaves brothers on a line, doesn't obscure good common sense. As with most top-tier athletes, if his body "tells" him he can play, he probably will, at least a few shifts to test it out. Then again, maybe Blais is just trying to keep everybody, including a few BC lurkers (Hi, there, ), guessing until game time. Nah, he'd never do that ...
