  1. For some reason women in hockey sweaters and nothing else are quite exciting ... maybe I should move to Toronto ... or start a website. Last one ... I promise.
  2. Wrong team ... not sure she can skate ... but I'd "hit it".

    Duncan Commits

My understanding is that the Duncan deal isn't a "done deal" yet. However, there is a very strong chance he will be wearing a Sioux uniform in the future. I would liken him more to a Hoogsteen-type player than a Panzer. Either way, that's a not a bad thing. Moreover, landing Chorney and Zajac is a very big deal. As well, it would be nice to land Chucko too. However, I believe he's still making the rounds. By and large, I think we are going to have a some very solid recruiting classes the next couple of years.
  4. I agree. Regardless of the group involved, no religious or spiritual displays should be allowed on a publicly funded university campus. I went through this same thing when I wanted to conduct human sacrifices in the Fish Bowl of the Chester Fritz library. No, maybe that was when I threw up behind the library on my way to a Minnesota game ... it's all a blur.
  5. I agree the Sioux players have little reason to single Grant or Ryan out, their dad's insipid whining notwithstanding. I doubt Grant would say anything like that, especially when he knows it would end up in front of Prpich in January. He's a pretty solid guy who knows his role as a leader, witness his scoring first on Saturday. He's more likely to rip his own team, as a good captain would, than getting our guys more pumped for the rematch in January. (Especially since he won't be around to defend his brother next season if the games did get ugly over something like this.) Moreover, if Ryan has a good idea of when/how it happened and it was the result of a legitimate scrum along the boards, this is probably more BS than anything. I'm still curious why he played Saturday, unless the Friday injury was exacerbated somehow Saturday. As far as Nanne: Hey, Louie! Looks like your Caddy, with its left blinker flashing all day, didn't get to Faribault fast enough ... maybe you should climb off Sid's lap for once and get in the game.
  6. Do they still play "Welcome to the Jungle" or is it only SCCC that still does that?
  7. If you look at both teams, the Wild are younger at D, than are the Devils. Hale was originally drafted to groom him to take Scott Stevens' place when he retires, maybe in the next 2-3 years. PMart probably to take over for Niedermeyer in the future. I think Roche was drafted as noted for his potential to contribute to scoring, but also because he was gotten "on the cheap" which the Wild tend to do. Not to say that Roche isn't a good player, but after getting sent down this last time, I'm starting to think his window of opportunity may be closing with the Wild. It might be in his best interests if he got traded, since nobody claimed him off waivers this week.
  8. I read that Rush will be back on the air sometime next week, I believe. I expect a Jimmy Swaggert-like act of contrition. "I have gotten high, Lord." (tears)

    REA Atmosphere

Frankly, having to watch the games from 4 1/2 hours away, I'm disappointed that there were no live badgers thrown on the ice, or into the Minnesota bench. I'm especially disappointed that no live badgers with freakin' laser beams on their heads were thrown on the ice or into the Minnesota bench. The current crop of REA fans is a freakin' disgrace to those of us who threw badgers, gophers and other fans onto the ice.
  10. Actually, the pic in the link was sent to me by another member of this board, and then we were able to get it hosted here for your view pleasure. However, I wanted a "flushing" sound to accompany it ... or at the very least a high pitched squeak as a rodent goes to meet its maker.
  11. Somebody say something? Too bad about young Potulny. Hopefully, he makes a full recovery. With all of these knee problems/high ankle sprains going around, I wonder if the newest skates aren't becoming a problem as they tend to be as rigid as ski boots.
  12. I don't see Minnesota as having the same situation as we had last season. When Weber left, Lucia didn't have time to bring in another goalie who could fill in or start. Most teams tend to carry three on their rosters, and sit one routinely, so I see Lucia as bringing in another recruit for next season to probably backup Briggs, who I think is the better of the two starters right now. I believe Smeija is similar to Sofie in that he's primarily around for practice and doesn't take any scholarship $$$. That said, our goaltending situation was pretty f'ed up last season on a number of levels, and I'm glad it's settled down to two pretty reliable starters with Ziggy in the wings.
  13. None of the big players, e.g., Comcast, TimeWarner, Charter, etc., around MSP has taken on Victory. I think a few smaller, local operators have in Mankato(?) and maybe Elk River, and probably a few more locales. They effectively want as much per subscriber as FSN, which is a pretty good chunk of change for a new channel with a pretty limited menu of events. Moreover, there is a movement in cable programming to move sports channels to a "premium" tier due to the costs involved, much as many satellite providers do, and Victory doesn't want that either. Victory is slotted to carry Twins games not allocated to Fox or ESPN this spring, so once that option comes into view you might see more progress. But given how the bigger guns have drawn lines in the sand with regard to sports channels' costs with ESPN, Fox, etc., this could be a long affair.
  14. SCCC ... 7-8 of the best years of your life, without getting a degree. Prestone: Official Drink of Husky fans everywhere SCSU: The Official School for the KKK Stearns County Syndrome: Keepin' it in the family Coach Dahl: Phone Home (Madison) (Better yet, have him paged over the PA) SCCC: We don't need no stinkin' NCAA tourney victories SCSU: Minnesota's home of Soviet-style architecture
  15. If the Guv doesn't wear the sweater, or edits in any stupid remarks, we can always send Messrs. Prpich and Greene down to "instruct" him on the proper wearing of Sioux attire, and on honoring his bets.
  16. Hate INCH, generally. Hate polls, polls don't skate. (And Charlie don't surf ...)
  17. Glad somebody caught that ... With the SCCC crowd, they would probably think it has to do with NASCAR or how many of their sisters they can marry.

  19. I took a quick look at SCCC's roster, and overall they seem really small compared to Minnie and BC, and past years' squads. If we play a physical, aggressive game we could knock them off the puck, wear them down going into the third and get them to bleed from their ears. Playing on a smaller rink should definitely reduce any quickness or speed advantage some of their guys, but we have fast guys with muscle and toughness. Take them to the boards, throw them through the glass and punish them every time they touch the puck. Some good stick work to their legs and arms probably wouldn't hurt either. Well, that and an elbow or two to the ribs, or the back of the head. We'll see how "cool" Mr. Coole is when he has Money, Parise and Murray hanging on him, and Schneider and Jones patrolling the blue line.
  20. 73 saves in two games? WTF? Was there anybody else on the ice with him? I think our forwards may have a field day if we can put up those numbers. And if not, we'll just have Greene stand at the point and rifle pucks at him.
  21. Agreed. Vanek is a very good and dangerous player. However, like anybody else if you take him out of his game, like Prpich and Greene did most of the weekend, he looks pretty ordinary. That said, I think he played more one dimensional hockey than I have seen since last season, and he got very frustrated at times too. I think Zach has matured mentally and physically and is able to fight through the muggings better than last season. Moreover, Money and Murray are also dangerous so if you put too many guys on Zach, the other two can make you pay. And vice versa. That additional support is something that Vanek was missing for the most part, and shutting him down pretty much quieted his linemates too.
  22. I think SCCC should be viewed as dangerous as BC or Minnie. If we play our game, work hard on the fundamentals and don't get too overconfident we should be okay. This should be viewed as a big series, not only for the chance to get 4 points, but also to reinforce to the team that they have to work hard each night if they want to be at the Fleet in April.
  23. IMO, Brandt and JParise both wander to much. However, I think JParise is more aware of where he is and gets back in position quicker. I agree that the "help" on PP slowed things down, but given our PP I doubt it really mattered. I like the fact that JParise is pretty aggressive around the net and he uses his size accordingly, although he needs to keep the stick down. Too many shots to the head and neck can draw a whistle in a hurry. On the "bad angle" shot I thought the puck slid in between the skate and the pipe a split second before he was able to narrow the gap. I kind of felt bad for him when starting looking around for the puck after the light went off. By and large, I think we have two pretty solid goaltenders in Brandt and JParise. However, I also think that by getting more help up front, both can play better over time.
  24. Well, yes, that would certainly explain all of the empty premium seats near center ice and the people who leave 10 minutes before the end of the third period when Minnie is up, or 15 minutes when they're down. That said, I think Mariucci is a great college hockey barn, and a definite cathedral to the game.
  25. Agree with Prpich. He generally kept up with Vanek, and took him out of the game much of the time. They were so close, that I wouldn't be surprised to see them start dating. "Not there's anything wrong with that." I'd guess Prpich will be Vanek's "buddy" tonight and when we visit Mariucci. Definitely a good late find from the BCHL.
