US Pond Hockey Championships, Minneapolis, MN, 20-22 January
ScottM replied to Ranger's topic in Men's Hockey
It figures. They schedule a major outdoor event, and Minnesota's traditional winter takes a vacation. However, I'm sure it will be back by April. -
This is perhaps the pivotal series for the Sioux this season. They showed alot of heart and drive in their last game at Minnesota, and I hope they can build on it and take 4 pts this weekend. Strong, disciplined play will be a must from here-on-out. No more excuses about "youth", "inexperience" or "puck luck". This is the time of the year when teams playing in April take it to the next level.

Whoa! Looks like somebody's been channeling GK, or GK forgot his password.
-
Heh. "White chicks". I find it amusing/interesting that so many of the faculty in the Indian Studies department are really Eurotrash.
-
Are you implying that Phil Kessel has now joined the board?
-
Perhaps Mr. Brand would be so kind as to provide the $$$ amounts the NC$$ takes in from various revenue streams from names/logos of schools that are/were deemed "hostile" and/or "abusive". I'm pretty sure the rose-colored glasses set in Brand's office oversee a good deal of money from the "offenders", while at the same time extolling their own "virtues". Has anybody at the NC$$ actually read the definiton of "hypocrisy"?
-
"Held harmless"? What an a$$hole. "Hold harmless" implies that UND has somehow done something wrong to the NC$$. Which in this case appears to be that UND stood up to them, and shown them how their attempts at "social engineering" are odious, contemptible and well outside the bounds of their own authority. At the very least, it gives UND more time to build its case, and finally bury this exercise in stupidity and we can send the NC$$ back to accrediting high schools that churn out illiterate graduates.

I don't see the big deal. Toews, Oshie, et al. were there to represent their countries, not their college team. Toews, given his age, etc., was probably trying to remain focused on the task at hand: Winning a gold medal. If anything, I think it shows a good deal of poise and maturity, and I really doubt the UND guys on the US squad would hold it against him. As far as the "anti-US" chants, big deal. Canadians are always trying to get their older, richer and better looking cousin's attention. Much like SCCC and Minnesota. "Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!"
-
Yes, and judging by the quality of UND's rebuttal, and the issues raised therein, I seriously doubt it was written by anybody from Milwaukee. BTW: What's a "liable" suit?
-
Using buzzwords popular with the federal bench? Check. Trotting out federal law to get into US District Court? Check your wallet, NC$$. Using your opponent's weight against him? Check. I like the "rebuttal" summary Pat referenced. It looks like a very thinly-veiled "threat". I'd love to know what firm is working on this, and see the rest of the blast.

I'd make a small fortune selling my UND gear with the Sioux name/logo on Ebay or some other site. I figure if anybody profits off this issue, it should be me, dammit. Well, and maybe Dirty too.

Happy Festivus!!! Everybody have a safe, and happy holiday season.

After going headfirst into the boards, it's nice to see Jason being able to represent his country. Didn't Landon Wilson make an Olympic team or get sent as an alternate, or I am still confused by the lack of caffiene in my system?

I vaguely recall one of the SoDak schools having a club team or exploring a "real" team at some point in the past. Herb Brooks was of the opinion that that 'SU and at least one Iowa school, probably Iowa State, would be great candidates for D1 programs. As has been noted, a full D1 hockey program costs alot of money, and not all programs make money. As well, I don't see alot of other institutions with the fortitude to do what it takes to move club or D3 programs to the D1 level. Unless a school gets a ton of money dropped on it, ala Ralph, specifically for hockey I don't think there will be any major expansions going on.

I've always had a soft spot for Bemidji State. Their ties to UND hockey over the years, and the fact they have a very rich hockey tradition at a lower level make them, IMO, very similar to UND. I think this is a rivalry that would be more interesting than the "rivalry" with SCCC. I'd love to see them in the WCHA, but the circumstances don't allow it. They've made some noise at the D1 level, and I suspect they will be the first CHA team to make the Big Dance some day. If they do, I'll be cheering for them ... unless they play the Sioux, then they can die and burn in Hell.

I honestly don't know why you guys respond to GK. He's obviously disturbed. He hates himself, his lot in life and his heritage. His only way of venting is to come here and spew his diatribes in the hope that somebody will give him the attention he craves. Rather than attempting to engage him, it's probably better to take pity on his pathetic soul, and appreciate the fact that somebody is kind enough to let him play on the 'puter. One can only hope that he gets the help he so deperately needs, before he hurts himself.

You guys are taking INCH way too seriously. They freely admit they pilfer their information for other sources, including message boards, press snippets from Sid Hartman's senility-ravaged mind, the local preacher on the corner in front of their favorite crackhouse, etc. Really, INCH is like the WorldWeeklyNews of college hockey. In between hits on the pipe, eating pudding and glowing reviews of Brokeback Mountain, the INCH staffers are pretty harmless. Ignore them, and take them as a parody of college hockey "sudo-journalism".
-
You'll have to excuse him. He's just fighting his inner winkte instincts.
-
Hopefully, the team is more motivated for a sweep than you.
-
If you think UND giving up the Name/Logo is going to bring "justice and harmony" anywhere, except your own little world, you are really deluded.
-
Not to mention very embarrassing to get swept out of your own barn by Wisco and Minnesota. These guys, including the coaches, had better look at the calendar. The months ending in "r" are about done, and the months that matter are right around the corner.
-
I've never been able to figure NoDak's politics. They routinely vote GOP in national and many gubernatorial elections, but usually send a host of ineffectual Dems to DC who seldom return to the state for any period of time and become "insiders". Florida was able to mount an effective, quick campaign and they got their desired results. Dorgan et al. were too busy preening behind Reid and Feinstein over Katrina or whatever else was the subject on CSPAN.

I fell asleep before the segment aired, but judging by the "promo" during MNF, I doubted the segment would be anything close to fair. Go figure ... Anyway, if you wish to contact Nightline, you might try here. GarbageTV

Sounds like the mutual "stroke fests" that tend to be so common on campus. Lots of whimiscal hot air, but no real substance. Good thing there are universities, otherwise these clowns would be on welfare.

I love the way he refers to Zajac as a "kid".
