  1. Remember, Pravda is also owned by Knight-Ridder, which also owns the Hurled, so you can expect the relatively same high degree of reporting and editorial content.
  2. Won't somebody post something about something "important"? If these so-called leaders are more concerned about college nicknames/logos than poverty, third world living, substandard healthcare, etc. in their own backyards, I see no reason to really concern the rest of us.
  3. Must of been one of those "hang around the fort" Indians a certain person keeps referencing.
  4. The Fighting Scots. I could shorten my name, sign a resolution in support and approve of this message.
  5. I think 2nd place is overly generous, especially when you look at the relative strength of the rest of the league. I'm still banking on a 3-5 range, at this point.
  6. I see nothing wrong with trimming or dumping AI programs. Like it or not, the name/logo are premised on a connection to the AI tribes in the region. If the tribes aren't interested in supporting UND, I see no reason for the school to extend them any special courtesies, programs, waivers, etc. Let them make it like everybody else, or not. Perhaps UND could focus its energies on the expanding Hispanic and other immigrant populations in the region instead. At least they probably don't have an ax to grind with regard to names, logos or perceived slights. As for casinos, their economic "benefits" are often illusory at best. Keep them in the sticks where their "halo effect" is minimized. And I live in a state with legalized non-Indian gaming, but that's another issue.
  7. Oh, you finally picked up this month's edition of Duh!? Go back under your rock.
  8. True. Couple that with lost revenues for REA, the Betty and Alerus, and the pressure to change the name could be significant. As such, I see no reason to maintain the "special relationship" with the tribes if the name goes, and UND can use the cost savings to make the necessary alterations to facilities, uniforms, etc.
  9. I don't that happening, or having an impact on the NC$$ decision.
  10. I tend to agree with this. I see no reason to maintain those links to the tribes in the event the name is changed. Let 'em go to FSU or Utah. Since all the tribes and NC$$ seem to understand is $$$, I see no reason to waste it on them.
  11. Translation: I don't have the political capital to expend on the issue, unlike my colleagues in Florida who scared the shiat out of the NC$$ by calling for hearings.
  12. I agree, and it wasn't over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor either!!! /Had to be said ...
  13. Jesus ... having your cake and eating it too. Deny the appeal, but allow UND to continue to host the 2006 tourney and fill the NC$$'s bank account.
  14. And that is a perfect example of why the NC$$'s "logic" of using tribal support is so problematic, especially when tribes an Indians themselves can have differing views, contrary to what certain people may think. If the Utes or Seminoles decide they no longer support the schools' usage, can the NC$$ rescind their exemptions? Are the schools and the NC$$ leaving themselves hostage to changing tribal agendas, whims, mores, etc.? I agree the NC$$ is definitely looking to scrape away the paint they've taken into the corner with them. Frankly, the fact that the SL folks haven't yet come out and said anything, one way or another, demonstrates how divided Indians themselves are on the issue. If they renounce or reaffirm the 2000 resolution, who's to say the next leadership won't reverse it soon after. It's an idiotic way to support an idiotic policy.
  15. Remember, it's "INCH" where they recycle garbage from other websites under the guise of "creativity".
  16. First time, and probably only time, I heard it was in NW NoDak by the younger brother of my college room mate to describe some people from the Fort Berthold reservation. I don't recall ever hearing it on campus. As a matter of fact, I don't recall any conversations centering around "new, creative" epithets for Indians, contrary to what Gange and Jeanotte might suggest. I heard more derogatory portrayals and comments about Indians when I moved to "enlightened, liberal" DT Mpls than when I was on campus.
  17. ROTFLMAO!!! This guy must be related to Doreen YellowBird.
  18. Perhaps the Spirit Lake folks have more important matters to attend to, rather than worrying about UND's name/logo. Unlike some of their colleagues. Precisely, but don't tell that to Jeanotte, Bellecourt, Herr Kracker, etc.
  19. Sounds like Larry has other "issues" not related to a school's name. Not that it would make an iota of difference in your mind, Larry.
  20. With that level of hypocrisy, Jeanotte should be running the NC$$.
  21. They've already done that by granting the last batch of exemptions, based on the "permission" of one band or another. UND's appeal touches a variety of issues that go beyond the mere rubber stamping of a school's use, even if other bands/tribes object. FWIW: I doubt Taken Alive is that clever so as to put the NC$$ on the spot.

    Pandora's Box

Nah. In Wisconsin-Madison "think" that's "progressive".
