Having younger kids commit, is no bigger crap shoot IMHO, than if they are 17-18. The college game is much different than HS, USHL and the national team. If anything, I think the odds are better they'll develop a bit better if they don't have college recruiters hounding them for another year or two.

I believe that comes from a Big 10 policy, but it allows exceptions for conference opponents, etc. I am not sure if the CCHA or any other hockey conference has such a stupid rule. Moreover, I really doubt Michigan would turn down the $$$ to not play Florida State in the Fiesta Bowl or Rose Bowl.

Once again, the NC$$ changes rules to suit its own devices.

So? Force his position. Who does he work for, the people of NoDak, or the PACs and others who line his pocket with campaign dollars? If other Members see this as a serious issue, serious enough to attempt to muzzle the NC$$, the this guy should state a position on the bill, one way or another. Let the people of the state decide if it's important enough to influence their votes. NoDak has had a history of ineffective, inferior politicians because they buy into that whole "seniority" line. "Well, I've been in Congress 40 years, I haven't done much, but I'm chairman of the Select Committee on Pooper Scoopers". Maybe if they voted people in who reflected their own values, mainstream or not, they might have greater influence than the current crop of kow-towing bootlickers.

Isn't Earl "the Pearl" Pomeroy up for re-election this year? Why not make this bill and the entire name/logo issue a campaign issue? Bring it up to his GOP opponent. If anything, it might get Hastert and the GOP House leadership to move on the bill, and force Pomeroy's hand.

Yeah, right. Reporters tend to skew their reporting to suit their editorial and corporate bosses, or they'll be out of a job, and this is often nothing new. I can't imagine Fox hiring Michael Moore to do op-eds or special reports, or the NY Times hiring Ann Coulter.

With a max signing bonus of less than 90k, it probably makes some sense for some NHL teams, like Chicago, to use a funnel approach. They can sign a raft of players, and it really doesn't cost them much to see who is going to make it down the road. However, I think more pragmatic teams like New Jersey, Colorado, etc. are probably looking at long-term development and get the most for their money.
