It doesn't appear the NC$$ is really sponsoring it, so much as allowing Franklin to get a free lunch and a night at the Holiday Inn. But I think his comments would be subject to discovery in a civil action. Here's the program from the law school. Not sure Sandra Day O'Connor would appreciate the star-studded lineup, including intellectual giants "Dr." Stephanie Fryberg and Ron His Horse Is Thunder. Linky II If I didn't have a presentation in NYC the following week, I'd go there for a good laugh, and the "sights" around the ASU campus.

On a related note, it looks like Myles' buddy and fellow traveler, Bernie Franklin will be discussing the "impact" of American Indian names/logos at ASU. I expect it to be a reasonable, balanced seminar. Linky Franklin to speak at Arizona State Indian mascots conference August 18, 2006 The NCAA News NCAA Senior Vice President Bernard Franklin will speak at an Arizona State University-sponsored conference about the use of Native American mascots and imagery. The conference, entitled Pride or Prejudice: Indiana Mascots and Imagery in the United States, will be October 20 at Arizona State in Tempe, Arizona. Organizers hope to explore the legal and ethical implications of Native American mascots and imagery by American educational institutions. Speakers from all over the country will serve on panels about a variety of topics, including the history and cultural imagery framework, psychological and social impact of mascots, pride or prejudice and law and legislation. Invited guests include professors, attorneys, legislators, activists and members of Native American tribes. The event is open to the public. The registration fee before September 15 is $200. After that date, the fee rises to $250. Participants can register online or via U.S. mail using the form that is available online. The event is sponsored by the Indiana Legal Program of the Sandra Day O

JFR, I don't believe there is a single magazine that is devoted to college hockey, although I've always thought it would be an interesting business idea. I think USCHO has some type of preferred subscription that may include a periodical or emag. I'm a member of USA Hockey and receive a magazine that often discusses college players with links to the USA Hockey program, as well as other articles you may find interesting. As a practical matter, given the number of online sources available like Hockey's Future, USCHO, INCH (yuck, I can't believe I included them ), Sioux Sports.com, etc., the odds are pretty good you'll always find relevant info, even if you have dig for it.

Some schools see their FB programs as profit centers to fund other, money-losing sports and put them into a few games a season where they'll probably be humiliated. I don't see a harm in UND doing perhaps one game away a season at a place like Minnesota, Iowa or wherever, but when your program focuses less on winning its own conference than bringing in cash, then I think you'll eventually have problems getting good recruits, coaches, etc. Fortunately, UND and 'SU have their own traditions in D2 FB, so I doubt they'd allow themselves to degenerate into pigskin whores.

"Embarrased" (sic)? Hardly.
-
No, and I'll write slowly for your benefit, I was alluding to fact that UND will eventually have to pay 'SU and its South Dakota bretheren, to come in and be its punching bag when it goes D1. As a practical matter, I wasn't making fun of the D1 schools bringing in punching bags, so much as the programs that seem have have made that a business model, as opposed to developing winning programs. However, I doubt 'SU or UND would follow that path of the some of the schools in the article. If that doesn't do it for you, then perhaps you'll recall one of these passing over your head earlier.
-
Do try to keep up.

More than UND will pay SDSU, or our poor cousin in Fargo.

NY Times Looks like moves to D1 can payoff.

Many thanks from us Sioux fans in bouncyball country who cannot make back to Hockey Nirvana very often.

Zach Parise will be at the new Scheels in Fargo 8/25

In related news, has-been child star Fred Savage recently announced a lawsuit against Southeastern Oklahoma State University for trademark infringement, disparagement, intentional infliction of emotional distress, interference with prospective advantage and caving into the NC$$ like a bunch of candy-asses. Damages in excess of $100,000,000,000 are being sought. Developing ...

The Kessel family celebrates Phil Jr's flight from the clutches of The Don.

Don't be so quick to dismiss defense attorneys' abilities/duties to defend to their clients. Twinkies

I think the last "Hockey Dad" I recall who got too involved in their kid's career was Daddy Lindros, and look how that's turned out. That said, best of luck to Phil Jr in the big leagues.

LOL! Man, oh man. If he takes that attitude to Beantown, and Phil Jr. doesn't do well, it will get real ugly.

If true, I'd say that's a pretty good pick.

I think the audience, including TV viewers, should also wear helmets, visors and Kevlar vests. God forbid a puck gets past the netting, or somebody drops a brat on the guy in front of them. If people are afraid of getting hurt, they should take up soccer, or spelling bees.

I think I hear Maurice "Rocket" Richard and Toe Blake spinning in their graves. The "wussification" of America continues.

Remember Sprewell's whining about not being able to feed his kids on $7 million(?) a year? In any event, Robinson may want to look into joining Ricky Williams in Canada. Linky

The defense's game plan seems to be to keep Rodriquez out of Terre Haute (the federal prison where the govt does executions), rather than appellate review, even though their often shrill arguments over venue, jury selection, etc. are meant to establish a record for review. Their emphasis on jurisdiction in opening statements, Dru's consciousness, etc. seems to be aimed at planting some seeds in at least one juror's mind as to whether a death sentence is appropriate. I think the $64,000 question is whether Rodriquez takes the stand. I'm betting he doesn't at this point.

Just another reason why I don't pay much attention to professional sports, outside of hockey. As an aside, I think the Vikes' new uniforms were pulled out of some arena league catalog.

Nice of Commie to bring the Cup to REA. Those of us living in bouncyball country expect to see pics on this site.

If the NHL agrees to fork over enough $$$, it can still have its pick of Russian talent.
