  1. Went to bed after the second OT. Must have been a great game! Dave Tippett is a former Sioux, also, for the Stars. I'm taking a Flames vs. Sabres final with Buffalo winning.
  2. Here's Schlossman's blog with just such info: http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/
  3. Was led to this article by another person. It is, first of all, extremely well written. Secondly, it is a hockey story. Thirdly, it is both uplifting in part and disturbing in part. Finally, it seems, it is still an open wound, unsettled and unhealed. It is quite lengthy, too. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/sto...mp;lid=tab3pos1
  4. So does this hurt his chances to become our goaltender coach?
  5. The reason we lost ... BC scored two more goals than we did.
  6. 4-2 MSU, under 4 in 3rd. We're onto hot Dad's.
  7. Speaking of groins ... there is a job in sports more dangerous than goalie ... http://www.reuters.com/news/video/videoStory?videoId=23493
  8. For those looking for a score: 2-1 Maine with 8:00 left in 2nd. Now back to the hot Mom's topic ...
  9. I'll give you the Gophers, even up!!! With odds, too.
  10. There is more to it than that, though. #1 - Are you NHL ready? #2 - Is the player in a hurry to get to the NHL? #3 - Does your NHL team want you today? #4 - How old are you? Under the new CBA, a player is locked into both signing bonus and salary limits based on where drafted for his first NHL contract (and it cannot be a one-way contract). Also, under the new CBA a player becomes an UFA at age 27 (used to be 31). This means your first NHL team has a player locked down for less time before a player can demand more $$$ and potentially jump to a different team, so they get in a hurry to get you there, and frustrated when you don't jump (see what Carolina did to Jack Johnson when he did not come out last year?). When you factor in those new parameters, it becomes more likely in today's NHL that a highly drafted college player will leave early to go the NHL, or even the AHL. As for the age part, Oshie is 20, Chorney and Lee are 19 and Toews is 18. I am not sure how old Finley is. It appears Chicago wants Toews now, Edmonton wants Chorney now and St. Louis wants Oshie now. Have not seen Ottawa's public feeling on Lee nor Washington's stance on Finley.
  11. Quoting Crash (Kevin Costner) Davis from "Bull Durham": "Always respect a streak!" Having said that, I do not like the new black sweaters. Don't like the numbers, and don't like the smaller front crest insignia.
  12. Gordie Stafford does not coach a HS team. He coaches a National Championship Prep School team of HS age girls. There is a huge difference! Look at the teams his team has played and beaten, All-Star 19U teams from all over North America. Here is a link to their site: http://www.s-sm.org/upper/athletics/team.a...rid=2006+-+2007 They won the National Title again, and their overall record was 54-2-1. I'm not saying he is the guy, but he deserves consideration. Your concept of getting a D-I Head Coach begs the question ... who? Who, that is successful, would leave where they are at to come to Grand Forks to start from scratch? Our Women's program is not on solid ground. I can only imagine a Head Coach who is not currently successful being interested in the job as it exists today, and why would we want that person? The key for the next coach is recruiting. The program needs lots of D-I caliber players in the next couple of years to start to elevate their play and stature within the WCHA. I'll bet Gordie Stafford has coached or coached against some of the best up and coming D-I talent in North America. And, further, I'll bet he knows who they are, and they know who he is, both huge recruiting keys.
  13. I think a UND graduate is likely to be a casual Sioux fan. Those former students who were regular attendees of Sioux hockey are almost always lifelong "diehard" Sioux hockey fans. I was there for the Old Barn for two years and then the Old Engelstad for three years. I went to almost every home game. I left in 1976, and followed as best I could from where I was until the New Engelstad opened and allowed me to get season tickets, which I've had ever since. I also think GF residents are diehard Sioux fans, regardless of school affiliation, and GF is a hockey town. I would guess more than 80% of season ticket holders are either Alumni or GF residents (or former GF residents). It has become a family reunion most every home weekend for us. We meet in GF and go to the games, out to our special places for food and beverage. I don't see that stopping anytime soon. My wife and I travel 340 miles one way to go to Sioux hockey. There are fans who travel farther, too. Those former "diehard" students who no longer live near GF are still huge fans. You can follow this board and read of get togethers all over the country for Sioux hockey. It is a tradition that does not leave you just because you may leave UND! I don't think income has a huge impact on home attendance. It probably comes more into play when the team travels, especially in the post-season, due to short notice of times and places.
  14. If he isn't a finalist, we need an investigation!
  15. Well, Hockeybuzz.com is not always right, so don't assume it's gospel. With no animosity meant at all, EJ is a talented hockey player, who proved this season he is not ready yet for the NHL. I think it would be to his benefit to play at Minnesota again next year and develop more as a defenseman.
  16. I will pull for the WCHA team. Go Huskies!
  17. You should be able to watch live here: http://ne.cn8.tv/default.asp

  19. I believe it is: "Free To Air" satallite system. Many here have it, I do not.
  20. Here's a linky. http://www.cstv.com/chat/031907aab.html Class act, wish I had his Salmon Arm sweater!
  21. According to USCHO when I checked yesterday, after factoring in the loss to Minnesota, our Pairwise dropped to #10.
  22. Actually, they routinely put the Number 1 seed's game first. It does give them some extra rest, if they win.
