To the best of my knowledge, no jersey this year has gone for less than $600.

Is "Mouston" in "Mexas" or "Moklahoma" ?

Just looked those links up, I have no words for those kinds of actions.

I don't know how you diagnose a concussion without a brain, but OK, if you say so! Of course I loved Prpich, he was our guy. No one else liked him, same here. You think players and fans of any other WCHA team liked Prpich? Downie, he's your guy. You can like him. We don't have to, and I don't. Game on Canadia!!
-
Well, he can practice and he can play JV now. Second semester starts like Jan. 2nd. You're saying they'd divorce for one extra month of varsity as a junior? Sounds crazy, doesn't it?
-
Downie was a cheap little weasel the whole game ... wait, the whole tournament, last year. I have no respect for him after what I saw last year in Vancouver. You can claim him, we don't want to. He got what he deserved, then took a dive to make it look like JJ cheaped him. Looked very European, actually. Personally, I do hope the two meet again. Who's Downie's protector this year? He can't take care of himself, except from behind. Face to face Jack Johnson would kick his ass.

Where did you come up with #9 picks are supposed to become NHL stars? The draft is not a science, especially since it's about projecting where an 18 year old will be in 5-10 years. You try to get more hits than misses, and as much homework as you try to do there are busts. Just look at the baseball draft and start adding up all the busts of HS kids. Why does NFL draft have a better record? Because they're 21/22, not 18, and there's more of the picture already developed from which to make an assessment. And Brian Lee is not a bust at age 19! If he's not in the NHL in 5 years, yeah, then you're right, it will have been a poor pick at #9. He is a better defensive D-man this year than he was last year. But his biggest asset is his offensive ability from the blue line, especially on the power play. It is a total falsehood that you can only have defensive D-men! Now, you can't have 6 offensive defensmen, but, if you are going to be a totally well rounded team, you need at least one offensive D-man. For the Sioux, right now, that's Brian Lee, and he's good in that department. Do I wish he was better in his own end, yes. Do I wish he would lay the lumber more often, yes. But, you know, some days I wish I could be golfing in Arizona during the winters, too. You don't always get what you wish for! I am satisfied with Lee's development, and I think he's a good kid who will continue to improve. Obviously the coaches see something in him too, and I trust their judgment. Peter Mueller would not average 2 points per game in the WCHA. And yet, Brian Lee, as a defensman, would probably average between 1-2 points per game in the WHL. Apples and oranges to try and compare leagues, though. Now, I do think I would not pair Lee with Finley, but that's for another thread all together, isn't it!

So, why do we care how the Gophers are doing? We shouldn't, unless it's as it relates to our games with them or our seeding affected by them. Other than that, why give a rip about the Gophers? They are the best team in the country right now, why slam them for what might happen in the future? Until someone knocks them off, they deserve to be #1. We just need to see the Sioux continue to improve and advance towards the post-season. We'll see how we stack up against the Gophers Jan. 26 & 27. I also think it's time to give up the Holy Cross crap. That was last year, and eventually someone, somewhere, sometime will beat us when they're not supposed to in the NCAA's and the same people who keep using HC are going to be p*ssed off at the trolls who bring it all back. It's over, and it's not our team, anyway! Personally, I'm still mad about losing to Denver 1-0 in Regional Final in 2004 when we had Z. Parise and B. Bochenski and we were the best team in the country and had to watch DU hoist the trophy. If some Gopher fans get their jollies egging others on why give them the satisfaction of responding? If they want to engage in reasonable conversation, then that's what we should do in return. Holy Cross is so last year ...

It's OK. Don't be scared!

OK, so what you're saying is college athletes should not go to parties? Yeah ... like that's going to happen! Try realism here. College is for young people, expanding their minds and horizons. They're going to go to parties. I want everyone here who did not party in college ... to go back and do it right this time! Coach / Recruit conversation: Stay out of situations that are obviously frought with bad vibes ... Yes, coach. Always go in a group, not alone ... Yes, coach. Leave if things get dicey ... Yes, coach. Use good judgment ... I'll try, coach. Don't go to any parties ... Uh, sure coach. Oh ... and coach, what's the fastest way to Minneapolis, got an offer there, too!

We're going to get smoked!

Uh ... they weren't even playing in the WCHA this week.

Thank you Captain Obvious!

It is not racism just because you say it is. It was not racism when the Sioux name was adopted in the 1930's and it is not racism now. You cannot hide behind the "race" card to suit your needs or when you do not have a legitimate argument to persuade me, and that is what you are doing. Make a legitimate and persuasive argument that stands on it's own and I will listen. You will not "shame" me to your beliefs using the racism tact. It's old, it's a rerun and it holds no water. Yes, there are racist people, but that will not change if the Fighting Sioux name goes away officially at some point. Just look at the places where they have changed their name and tell me if racism disappeared with it, or if the Native Americans there are better off for it. In my limited view, I certainly don't see it. In fact, it may be the opposite. Reasonable people can disagree, and many times that disagreement can not be solved. Does not make one side right and the other wrong. We would be better served to find our common ground rather than dwell on our areas of contention. That common ground can be the University of North Dakota, and it's academic possibilities for all UND students or it could be UND's athletic teams. It could even be both! The reality on the Sioux name is I will not likely change your opinion and you will not likely change mine. That does not make one of us right and the other wrong. That does not make one of us a good person and the other not, either.
-
Are you talking about Team USA, or UND.
-
I personally think the US will not do well, and might be lucky to make the elimination round (meaning final 6 teams). I do not think this is a strong US team, and I doubt they will medal. We are especially weak in goal.
-
If and when the Sioux name is retired at UND, it will not lay this issue to rest as you suggest. That is just my insight into it, but I don't see this issue ever being totally resolved, regardless of the outcome of the NCAA suit, or UND's actions after the lawsuit is settled either way. This issue will always be with us.

I have to say, until proven otherwise, the Gopers are the best team in the country. No team is going to win every night, nor should they have to to protect their ranking. The WCHA is a tough league, and even the best teams are going to lose games. I see no clear cut team to place in front of the Gophers at this point.

I might have two in lower bowl for Friday only. Section 115. $30 each. Email me: rjseeley@wil.midco.net if interested.

Two things come to mind when I read his posts: 1) He has a need or desire to have the last word. 2) He doesn't yet know how to disagree without creating animosity. Maybe that's his youth, though I can't say for certain since I have no idea how old he is. A few words of advice to him would be to choose his written words more carefully and less confrontationally and not to be afraid to let a dissenting opinion be the final piece of a thread. It's OK. If your points are valid they don't need to be the last points made. They will still be valid regardless of what might be said by others later.

You have to be 19 or younger on December 31st of this year to play this year.

We are very inexperienced up front this year and Lammy getting hurt has exposed a D-corps with flaws. Every school is going through some adjustments at this time of the year (excepting Minnesota, of course, they're perfect once again). In general, we over-react after every series one way or the other. Either they're great and headed to the Frozen Four or they suck and we need a whole new team. Relax and enjoy the ride! I have every confidence in what Coach Hakstol is doing and what he will accomplish in March. His track record shows we can expect a different Sioux team by then. For now, we hang with them because they are our team. So ... Go Sioux, kick the turkey out of CC. Oh, and I wouldn't want to be a player at practice today! May need some shovels to clean the ice! There will be points to be made by the coaches this afternoon, I suspect.

Sure, with a disclaimer that I officiate HS football, so I do tend to side with the officials, knowing they are the ones in the arena doing the work. The first thing to remember is that in HS there is no "pocket" provision like in the NFL, so you always must throw to an eligible receiver. The second thing is the penalty is a 5 yard penalty from the spot the QB threw the pass, not from the line of scrimmage, with a loss of down also. To me, if it was a 17 yard penalty, it was because he was 12 yards deep when he released the ball. Hope that explains it, if not let me know what is unclear and I'll try to be more specific.

The NCAA is not telling UND that it cannot play at REA and it is not telling UND they cannot be the Fighting Sioux. They are telling UND that they cannot be the Fighting Sioux or use any Native American imagery during NCAA sanctioned post-season events. So, REA can stay and keep all it's logos and other Native American imagery. It cannot, any longer, be awarded any NCAA sponsored post-season events. This is curently an issue for the women's BB team, but at this point, not an issue with the hockey team, since the NCAA now has a provision that NCAA Regional and Frozen Four Hockey events are to be held at neutral sites. Unless that changes (and it could), the Ralph will not see another NCAA Hockey Regional regardless of the outcome of the law suit.

I was at all four games Friday. Napoleon looked good, but hey, it was 9 a.m.! Velva started fast, though the game was closer than the score. Linton just could not get time to throw, and turnovers hurt them, too. Watford played very well to beat Trinity. Almost mistake free for the Wolves other than the unnecessary roughing the kicker play. Not a smart play to even try to block that kick, it was 4th and a zillion! Minot played well defensively to keep the South game close. Minot did not play very impressively on offense. Oh, and the officiating in that game was excellent. In no way was that the reason the score was closer than many expected (myself included).
