  1. Might as well start a thread for this year's tournament. Please post stations and internet feeds for any games you know of, along with live scoring for those who are not able to get updates. I do know that 1310 AM will do all Red River games, and Grafton station does GRP games, though I do not know the call signal or location. I do not think Fargo or Bismarck cover their teams. KYYZ 96.1 FM will carry Williston games (live this year, though the Thursday night game will not get on until BB ends about 9:15). they do have an internet connection at: http://www.network1sports.com/stations/kyyz.php Then click on "Listen Live". Good luck to all the teams.
  2. Very impressive sentence. English major?
  3. It was Dion Phaneuf and Shea Weber that virtually shut him down that game, between them and Ryan Getzlaff hitting him, he disappeared. Mysterious shoulder injury caused him to miss the second and third periods, too, as I recall. I will say this, though, he and Malkin lit up Team USA in the semis!
  4. According to hockeybuzz.com, his return is still three weeks away.
  5. That's not how I read Malm's take of the game.
  6. Great concept, but since you cannot pick same player twice, maybe name a player with a point, to include assists next time. Game might last a bit longer if you do, and that is good, so AzSioux doesn't run out of DVD sets!
  7. The Canadian schools might well have enough to start there own conference, especially if they can pick up Alaska and/or AA. Only need six to get an auto bid. Of course, common sense would dictate all Conference affiliations would be somewhat geographical to reduce travel, but it hasn't happened that way yet! Maybe a huge shuffle is in order, but there is no "Chief" to direct such a drastic change, so it won't happen. Heaven forbid the NCAA get involved in something directly related to athletics, what with their plate full on the social upheaval issues of the day! (Sarcasm, for those who don't know me.) If the WCHA (or any Conference, for that matter) went to a 12 team league with a two Division format, as SEC and Big 12 do, they could do home and home with three in your Division each year (rotating) and two games with the rest. That's 28 games, same as now. Still allows for out of Conference games. First round of Playoffs would still be 2 out of 3. Final Five would become Final Six, top seed in each Division with the byes. It's really not that hard to do. Now, 11, that is hard to do! So, I don't see Bemidji, or anyone else, coming in alone.
  8. Take a look back ... ... It's 1970, and the Sioux are playing hockey in an unheated airplane hanger-like Winter Sports Bldg. No plexiglass, just chicken wire. Capacity around 2,000. Jump to 1973 and the Sioux are in the brand new (original) Engelstad Arena. Seating for 6,200. How are we going to fill those extra 4,200 seats? It will never happen. It did. Now jump to 2001 and the Sioux move to the current 11,600 seat Englestad Arena. State of the art, all the amenities for players, coaches and fans. How will they ever get 11,600 people to watch hockey in Grand Forks? Last weekend, The Ralph was sold out for the 11th straight time. I see a trend, and I see no reason Bemidji, on a smaller scale, could not do the same. We can't fear the future of college hockey, we must embrace it, and from our place of strength, help advance the sport. 59 going to be 58 D-I programs is not enough for the sport overall. We need to help be the catalyst for the sport to expand and grow, not the reason it stagnates because we want to protect "our" turf. Which, by the way really isn't our turf, anyway. Think big, and don't fear the worst case naysayers. As a whole, college hockey needs to find a way to make this all work out, and from strength, the WCHA needs to lead, not follow in this endeavor.
  9. Yes, on the NHL Network, if you get it. All medal round games are.
  10. So, send Oshie in to every draw and try to "steal" the draw. if he gets booted from the circle, Kaip takes the draw. In the offensive end have Kaip take the draw and have Oshie at the top of the circle for the quick shot. Kaip can be a wing and still take faceoffs when needed.
  11. I like Wooger. He's a Gopher, and I know that. He has given the Sioux a lot of credit the past few years, and I appreciate that. I can listen to him. Dubay and Mozako, not so much.
  12. Thanks for giving me a good laugh. I was driving home and kind of bummed about the split, until I read your remarks. Your saying that: "Holy Cross is off this weekend" and: "the Gophers suck" are the same thing is completely laughable. I do give you credit for writing though, I can only imagine how tough it must be without opposable thumbs. Hope your future generations keep evolving. Good Luck.
  13. I couldn't agree more. Now, when we do speak out, we must all do it the same way as Coach Hakstol, well-thought out, well-spoken, intelligent and positive. At times, we have been our own worst enemy, and those who oppose the name have been more than happy to use that against UND using the name and logo. I am very proud to be a Sioux alumnus, and very proud we have Coach Hakstol at UND leading the way, as we sit with no AD and a lame duck President (who I do think has done a good job on this issue in the past).
  14. Yeah, let's be sure to pick our new name (or no name) based on the ability of opposing ability fans to ridicule it. Lest you forget, they have ridiculed the one we have now quite frequently, on all kinds of levels, and have for a long time.
  15. What does etc. mean here when your choices are all over the board?
  16. But, fielding % does not tell the whole story, either. Jeter has decent range, but a below average MLB SS arm. Someone with great range and a cannon could be a better SS than Jeter because he gets to more balls and has a chance to throw more runners out, both of which are more difficult plays that will result in more errors, thereby lowering his fielding %. Jeter would not even get to some of those balls, and when he does, some will just be beaten out due to his arm strength, resulting in hits, and no errors for Jeter, thereby keeping his fielding % high. In Jeter's case, all it proves is he makes the routine plays consistently, which he does. There are many defensive SS's at the MLB level who GM's would take ahead of Jeter for their defense. Doesn't make Jeter a bad SS, but he is not a Gold Glove SS, either, to me. Like it or not, many times the Gold Glove award is like the Homecoming Queen vote, popularity contest.
  17. Happy Thanksgiving Sioux Fans! "Anyone seen Big Bird?"
  18. If we have to change, I think we should use an Evergreen Tree as our new logo, and our new nickname should be The Cardinal, singular.
