  1. Maybe former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach will want to re-enter coaching at the FCS level. Wonder what kinds of budget UND could muster for a quality established head coach instead of promoting from within or going with an up-and-coming OC or DC from another school. We figured out a way to make Dean Blais happy for a while a few years ago, can't we do it in football, too? Just pondering.
  2. I tend not to be so reactionary.... but in this case, I am tending to agree. President Kelley is there in Missoula. If I were him, I would pull a Jerry Jones-Wade Phillips move and have Mussman fly home on the UND jet and basically tell him he's gone.
  3. 20-17 Griz.
  4. Griz TD
  5. 17-13 Sioux
  6. UND down by only 3 going into the 3rd.... despite our offense. Need a stop on this first possession. C'mon special teams and D!
  7. OK.
  8. 7-13.. Griz.
  9. Sutton TD
  10. Nice return by Hawkins!!!
  11. Is it just me, or does it seem that no matter what it is hockey, football or horeshoes... UND always get called for penalties when they play tough and finish plays. The zebras hate us in every sport. I wonder if I am just biased.
  12. Oh where art thou, Kelby K and Cogswell Cannon....
  13. QBs and Hardin seem out of sync. Still early.
  14. No problem.. it was a small loss of one yard on the first sack.
  15. That should be 2 for the good guys!
  16. That's right. Thanks! I must be getting old and my memory is lagging.
  17. Very true. But I think the keywords there are "in the Great West." There has not been much excitement at all for any team that has come into the the Alerus Center since we joined the Great West. Let's face it. The Great West was needed to help scheduling and to help those teams like UND who are in transition. It does and has done nothing to get fans excited (the product on the field hasn't helped matters any either). If Mussman can get the team competing at a consistent quality level to the point where fans can get excited about the team again and once we get to the point where we are FCS playoff eligible, then I see the Alerus attendance trending upward again regardless of who the opponent is. A lot of "ifs" there, I know. I guess the bottom line I am trying to say is that playing in a transitional conference and the dismal product on the field have coupled to effectively kill attendance far more than the teams we are playing or not playing.
  18. Sorry about posting twice.... trying to up my post count!
  19. Not to start a pissing match here with SU posters because I do have great respect for that entire program, but I truly will love to see teams like Cal Poly come in to the Alerus on a consistent basis. Ever since the time arrogant ol' J.T. O' Sullivan strutted up here to the "sticks" er, I mean Grand Forks and got blown out of the building from the crowd noise, I've really enjoyed that team as a budding rival. Cal Davis is another quality team I will enjoy seeing come to town for football. Then there's our old NCC foe UNC, it will be good to rekindle that "friendship" on the gridiron. As far as the other sports, it's still to early to tell, (although, the Montanas and Weber States will be fun to play in men's b-ball) but I am sure as the years go by and we see more of these teams more often at the Betty, they too will become exciting foes to go and watch. I would imagine that in the early years of the Missouri Valley or the Summit there were a handful of teams that appeared less than enticing to the casual fan, but as years have gone by, those teams have become more recognizable, and some of those have created must-see match-ups when they come to the dome. I see the same happening in the BSC.
  20. Very exciting game. Just got back. In the waning seconds of OT, Wiebe chases down the puck after a scramble in the neutral zone then skates in on a break away down the left side only to have two OSU players eventually catch up to her. Nonetheless she's able to snap one that catches the wide side of the net passed the late glove of the OSU goalie. Game Over. 3-2 Sioux! Sudden death with 14 ticks left. Wiebe's first of the year!
  21. The Big Sky Conference is my newest facebook "Friend"!!!
  22. Agreed. So far, it looks like New Hampshire, who was ahead of UND in the polls, took back-to-back losses to unranked teams; I haven't seen the complete weekend results from across the country to get a clearer perspective on what the forth-coming poll might look like. So, at least, with the Sioux taking one from the Number 1 team in the land coupled with two NH losses, the Sioux should inch up a bit. I am sure Idalski could care less about the polls, though; just nice eye candy for us! Way to go, ladies!
  23. Here's another candid shot of Josh wearing his fave Sioux cap! http://www.people.com/people/gallery/0,,20336634_20726619,00.html
  24. I remember a St. Patty's Day near-spanking that instead turned into a heartbreaker in overtime. St. Cloud State defeated North Dakota 6-5 to claim the 2001 WCHA Final Five Championship. Derek Eastman scored the game-winner in overtime after UND scored three goals in the final ten minutes of regulation to force the extra session. I was at the game in the nosebleed section among a throng of raucous and somewhat cocky Husky fans... With about 13 seconds left (that sticks out in my mind because I raised my eyes to the jumbotron one last time before the faceoff) the Sioux won the draw in the Husky end and sent the puck back to the point where Travis Roche launched zinger that beat the St. Cloud goalie. From my vantage, I could distinctly see the black of the puck move the twine in the back of the net. All I remember is leaping and screaming for joy and almost falling down 10 rows of Xcel seats; thank goodness my wife steadied me on my way down! It sucked to lose in OT, but the pain was easier to take after such an unfathomable comeback to tie it up in regulation. I will never forget that game.
  25. Another stat I heard is that Phil has won 10 of the last 19 NBA championships. Pretty impressive no matter what you think of the guy's views.
